Just a question mr p, do you go to the blues' games?

yes, only home games these days, st holder since the days of francis, latchford and hatton, 4 hour round trip to home games... how is that relevant ?

Because he wanted to belittle your argument, never mind eh. **thumbup

too right... i am very critical of the board because i think that they could and should have done much more over the last 14 years to take our club forward, that's all

Nah, the blue blair - who presided over this season's ST pricing - only needs 10 minutes banter on tom ross to get most blues fans believing every word he says... I'm the only one here who ever utters anything remotely critical of st.karren (gawd blimey ain't she marvellous). Then again at least i do her the courtesy of spelling her name properly

I just wish that blues fans would judge them objectively on their records as Chairman/MD rather than on being a nice bloke / lovely sweetie pie.

Apologies for the incorrect spelling, how very bad of me. Was meant somewhat as a throw away comment but never mind, my spelling never has been my strong suit.

Actually, I agree that with the resources and business acumen at their disposal, the development has been fairly disappointing over the years. However, the base from which they've been working was what can only be described as rock bottom. Everything is relative after all but IMO we should be somewhat higher placed than we are.

In terms of the academy, there are some reasons that we've a somewhat stunted success over the last decade. What year was it that they scrapped it? It's surprising to me that we have any players coming through of the required quality at all.

I do take heart however, from the fact that the youth team has begun to have some more success and in Terry Westley we seem to have a man that knows exactly what he's doing. I Look forward then to the academy having more success and crucially, bringing more good young players through the ranks.

sorry bordsley, wasn't meant as a dig at you in particular... i just think it's a bit bad that she's been here for 14 years and yet people still don't spell her name correctly...

I take your point about the base that they inherited and if they had been here for 5 years I would be applauding the progress they have made... but they have been running our club for longer than tony blair has been running the country... as with new labour, i think there comes a point where it becomes less about what did they inherit and more about what have they actually done...

That's OK pal. Should have learned by now really. :)

Good point, 14 years is a very long time in football. Once heard a rumour that there was only one reason that TF got ousted from the club but that's a different story. I really feel that there's a staleness (is that a word) about the way the club is run now and has been for a while. I thought up until the Barnsley play-off game, the club had made great strides in it's development.

Then there was a major lull, until the League cup final. Another lull and then SB got us up and for two seasons, everything was fine again. Next for whatever reason, whether it was bowen leaving or Sullivan getting bored or whatever else, I don't really know but after that there's been a downturn in the atmosphere around the club. I know relegation was massive for us but I actually think it gives us a chance to build from a firmer foundation but it's a why it's such a massive requirement that we're promoted this year, however we do it.

Keep Right On!

14 for me is the age pro clubs should take on juniors at a more intensive interest, a player can be very good at 8,9 yrs old but dissapear as a teenage prospect, also the reverse can happen, a player can be average at 8, 9 but flourish when he hits 13, 14 or 15,

Everyone wants to find a Rooney or Ronaldo too early Im afraid.

I actually agree with SB on this (not often that that can be said)

My son had a trial for the baggies under 10's late last year. having chatted with the parents of kids already signed up to the academy it was obvious that it is all pressure. this included keeping diet and fitness sheets, having assessment centres, being signed up for only 12 months at a time and it was all football with little time for school work

I was in a way glad that they didnt take the trial further, due to the immense pressure placed on the kids at that age, and for me what was most important was there was no allowance for school work.

For every kid that makes it there are hundreds who do not, and because of the lack of time given for school work, what do they fall back on, and you wonder why a lot are perceived as being thick

He doesn't believe in 8 year old's playing for or even being signed up by clubs.
"They should be with their mothers at that age"

Cobblers imo. I was up in London a couple of weeks ago watching 8 year olds play. Some of them were already on Chelsea's books, and the standard of play for such young kids was remarkable. The one thing you have to watch out for though is over coaching at that age, and parent pressure. In the game I watched there was none of that rubbish, so it can be done and be effective.

I actually agree that 8 year olds shouldn't be signed up,

they are still so young, they shouldn't make football their whole life at such a young age as if its all they know but they don't make then what are they going to do instead.

full focus should be on school in my opinion.

wow really?

well i'm glad he didn't join to, to have to do diet sheets at such a young age surly can't be good for their health. kids are supposed to pig out, they are all still growing after all.
