Of the 40 teams to have ever been relegated from the Premiership since 1992/3, only 10 have returned at the first time of asking:

Crystal Palace: Relegated 92/3 - Promoted 93/4
Nottingham Forest: Relegated 92/3 - Promoted 93/4
Leicester City: Relegated 94/5 - Promoted 95/6
Bolton Wanderers: Relegated 95/6 - Promoted 96/7
Middlesbrough: Relegated 96/7 - Promoted 97/8
Nottingham Forest: Relegated 96/7 - Promoted 97/8
Charlton Athletic: Relegated 98/9 - Promoted 99/00
Blackburn Rovers: Relegated 98/9 - Promoted 99/00
Manchester City: Relegated 00/01 - Promoted 01/02
West Bromwich Albion: Relegated 02/03 - Promoted 03/04

What do you think folks? Are we going to be the 11th team to return at the first attempt...?

You know what, history counts for nothing, we don't have the same team as last season, no one does, past season's form doesn't really help. It keeps journalists in work thats all. Whats important is now, not whether we can rely on historical facts. Do you think Steve Bruce picks his team and then looks at the last seasons championship results to see if we can win? Of course not. We will get promoted because we get results, not because of historical bs.

I do believe this is the most sensible post I have seen on this forum in nearly 9 years. Apart from anything I have posted, of course.

We've got too many games that I don't fancy us to win if we play like we've been playing since Christmas.

...aah but....Derby was before Christmas. Take the Newcastle game away and I can't think of one game where we've really impressed since the turn of the year.

2 in the league since we beat QPR on boxing day isn't it? Can I borrow your stats because they're far more impressive than mine?

It's not the Cardiff and Derby games that bother me so much as the Naarch, Leicester and Wolves games. It's the ones that we expect to win that we have a problem with.
