I heard a trailer on Five Live last night for a panel discussion featuring football chairmen. David Gold is going to be on it. Starts at 7pm tomorrow night.

I'm not really David Gold's biggest fan (the blue blair, too much spin) but he said a lot of very encouraging things in this discussion.

In particular, he said that all Championship clubs should agree to reduce ticket prices by 50%(!) over three years. 20% reduction in the first year, 20% in the second year, etc. He also said that the FA should scrap the minimum ticket price rule for FA cup games & let home clubs charge whatever they like.

He complained about the influence of tv on kick off times again & called those premiership clubs who want their reserve teams to play in the lower leagues "arrogant".

He spoke up in favour of a return to limited safe terracing : "It's not beyond the wit of man to produce an area in which say 500 people at each end of the ground could stand".

The first question he was asked was "What's your biggest headache at the moment ?". He said it was looking for a new stadium so that's obviously high on his agenda.

I have criticised the owners many times for not using their influence to campaign for changes, so it's great to hear our chairman on national radio putting forward arguments that would really benefit the fans. :applause:

Thanks Sam, I didn't hear the interview, and (unlike you) actually quite like DG (although I've only ever met him once - about 8 or 9 years ago at an AGM!).

It does sound fairly positive stuff he's thinking about, so let's hope eh?

Here's to a £250 premiership season ticket in the terracing area at "City of Birmingham Stadium" ;) :lager:

Looking for a site or for the type of stadium or the backing for a new stadium.

Could you shed anymore light on that or did the interviewer leave the question there.

Thanks

PS. Is there anyway of me been able to here these interviews after the event, as my time frame is different to everyone elses.
Could this foram host them.
I might ask admin for a answer on that.

Supply and demand for 500 standing season tickets would mean the price would probably cost more than sitting.
250 could be well off the mark

5,000 at each end would be great.

Make the away fans sit down though.

The programme is still available on the BBC website. It's a 3 hour programme but you can fast forward through the first hour (the discussion starts at about 1h05m).

http://www.bbc.co.uk/fivelive/listen/

choose "Audio on Demand" then when the window opens choose WEDS edition of "Five Live Sport".

It wasn't clear what he meant about the stadium. It was just a one liner. He say it is "the biggest pressure on us".

In fairness to DG, he said something like "We'd have to take out about 250 seats to make a standing area for 500, so you could charge half price for standing".

I do think that he might have underestimated demand though. Terracing for 5000 would make more sense. Maybe he is just being pragmatic :- i.e. it would be easier to get a change to the rules for a very small standing section at first & then when there are no problems try to get permission for a bigger section.

the terracing would be like gold dust, most fans i know would pay more to stand than sit down.

i would imagin that you could only get season tickets for such areas.
