Typical of SB to look in totally the wrong place to solve our lack of goals problem.

So Cole (who has a reputation for needing about 4 chances to score 1 goal) is going to put away the plethora of chances we create from our defensive midfielders!

This, if it happens, is a ridiculous signing IMO.

We'll have 6 or 7 strikers and still won't be able to score many goals. Will SB then see where the issue is? No, probably not.

thats a very good point.

is this a case of our forward not scoring or a case of them not getting the service.?

we do have people who have proved we cab score at this level but that has dried up since cristmass.

maybe it's a play maker we need and not another forward.

I agree. This seems like a very strange signing to me.

How many blues fans would have said that our priority for the last few weeks should be another striker ? We have at least 4 fit strikers yet lack cover in central defence & have lacked a central midfield playmaker all season.

This smells of Harry Redknapp & Cole's agent looking for a convenient mug to pay his wages for a couple of months. A couple of calls to Cole's former team mate & hey presto : are you Sutton in disguise ? I'm surprised that David Sullivan didn't tell brucie to do one.

Sometimes I really do question what goes through sb's head. While I rate Cole I think we already have more than enough strikers. But these current strikers only get two chances a game so who is suprised they are not scoring!! We need someone who can put their foot on the ball and dictate play. Bruce even admitted we couldnt pass the ball after the West Brom game!

Yes Brucie. Good move. Our strikers can't hit a barn door at the moment and its too late in the day to "see what Jerome/Campbell can do". They've had chances and cant score for toffee. Plus, if Bentner thinks he's made it, he can think again when Cole arrives with his warchest of medals.

If he doesn't come to us and goes to say, the Buggies, scores a hatful and they go up, everyone will be saying "Brucie should've signed Cole".

If we cant score enough goals to go up with Cole alongside Bentner/Jerome or Vine, we dont deserve to go up.

if his on 20k aweek for the final 10 weeks = £200k

about 8 times as much as the club raised by the ATC poll tax on our away fans this season

What a waste of time, we don't need another aging striker on absurd money (Chris Sutton anyone?), as we already have 4 fit strikers! Bruce needs to figure out how to get the best out of those, rather than get someone else in! wtf**

qft

qft?? What does that mean?

TBH i dont reckon we need another striker, more like a left sided player, Mat sadler looks more and more tired every game JG & G Mac both suspended. Dont like the look of jonty or seb on the left, is it that hard to see it???

Just seen it on Bbc Sport, will be well chuffed if Blues get Cole for the run in, absolute quality, defenders at this level would rather be facing Jerome and Campbell than Cole and think of the help he could be to the younger players even if he was only here a short time.

Isn't Bruce just admitting that Jerome, Bentner, Campbell and Forsell who he brought to the club are all not good enough?

2. Rush was at Anfield (in his second spell) for 8 years. Cole is on loan for a few weeks.

Larsson was on loan to Man United for around the same amount of time and all that came from them was what a great experience he brought to the team. Cole is the as Larsson and will be bring in that valuable learning experience for others.

Jerome will come good.

Vine - ditto

Bentner going back to gooners and has half an eye on a return there.

Fors - crocked

Campbell - not good enough.

We need some experience up front to see us through. Why can people just accept that young players take time and will go off the boil for patches of the season. Bringin cole in will take some of the (immense) pressure off.

Yeah Rooney and Ronaldo would never have amounted to anything without him.

Great signing if it comes through.

Those who assume this is all Bruce was looking for must be short sighted, Bruce said there would be no loan moves so was obviously looking at the available players. Can't think of any decent defender(better than Bruno and Jaidi) that would be available

From teamtalk

-

Bruce, who played with Cole at Manchester United a decade ago, wants the quality and experience of the striker to supplement his young strikeforce in the push for promotion to the Premiership.

The 36-year-old has slipped down the pecking order at Fratton Park but Bruce has no doubts he can still be a potent force in the battle to finish in the top two of the Championship.

Bruce said: "We're hopeful of getting Andy on loan for the rest of the season. It's not done yet, but we've had talks and are hopeful of tying it up if we can sort out one or two loose ends.

"I played with Andy at Manchester United - although it was a long time ago - and he is a top professional who looks after himself. That's why he is still a Premiership player at 35 to 36.

"I just feel we need that extra bit of experience and quality up front.

"We have very young players at the top end of the pitch, people like Cameron Jerome, DJ Campbell and Nicklas Bendtner although they all have great potential.

"I just feel at this stage Andy could be of great benefit to us and hopefully, if he comes here, can help us to get across the finishing line in what is a very tight promotion battle with eight teams still in contention."

Birmingham have struggled for firepower in recent months and have not scored more than one goal in a league game since the 2-2 draw with Luton on December 29.

So - no pressure then ?????

Smart move.

He has played with strikers of all different types throughout his career and he'll know exactly how to adapt his game to each of the different types we have at the club. He's a model pro who's always looked after himself and he's scored goals in very limited opportunities at Portsmouth, he'll be able to score goals at this level easy.

Another defender would also be nice, but as said above, the only player I can think of that we realistically could have targeted, Gardner at Spurs, is a key part of their squad now due to injuries, so they wouldn't let him leave.

EDIT: Now here's a brainwave. People are crying out for a creative midfielder who can pick a pass. Well, what about

----- Cole ---------------- Jerome/Vine/DJC ---------

---------------- Bendtner ------------------------------

- Larsson ------------------------------- Johnson -----

---------------- Clemence -----------------------------

Whilst McSheffrey and Gray are suspended.

not sure what to make of it really. on the one hand, quality player; on the other hand, if i were vine, jerome, DJ or bendtner id not exactly be full of confidence seeing another striker come in!

as others have said though ... would he really score any goals here?
rather than try and help us go up this term, id rather see the youngsters in vine, jerome and DJ progress and gain experience ...

would be great signing imo... hope SB can pull it off

as for people questioning why? we haven't really been scoring recently have we? an experienced striker is not to be sniffed at... this signing would frighten a lot of defences even in the prem let alone the championship **thumbup

bit of both... I can't see the issue with getting a bit of experienced cover in... we have experience all over the rest of the field, think our young strikers will benifit from having him round! **thumbup

It seems most likely that is cole comes here, which harry redknapp has said he will. Then Forssell will go out on loan elsewhere.

Don't forget, a big part of creating chances is the striker having the nous to make the right runs at the right time, making himself available in dangerous areas. Cole would add a good deal of experience here.

mmm maybe but i just got to thinking , if he comes ten he will definatly play so who will SB drop?

me personaly i would drop bentdner but i have a feeling it will be vine.

so it could have an adverse afect on the strikers.

we will have to wait and see.

I think Cole is too young, he ain't got the experience that an older player like Sheringham would have like or even Ferdinand.

Whats the betting that West Brom try to gazump us in revenge for Vine?

Or maybe another of Coles ex team mates in Roy Keane coming in for him?
