Redknapp said Cole was unhappy about not starting at Pompey, which means he expects to here, and if I was one of the other 5 strikers I'd be well peed off. At the end of the day though, if he puts away a few goals it will be a good signing, but I don't think like some saying, it already is, particularly at £20k per week

Who cares if the other players are peeved !!

They probably do, and it's got to be considered. Some fans appear to support Blues looking down a narrow tunnel, and don't give a stuff about anything else except the result. In one respect more competition for places is good, but Bruce may have another challenge ahead in keeping the troops happy

To be fair to them, it probably dents their confidence far more being booed off the pitch by their own fans than having a player of proven quality joining the squad. Seems kinda strange that suddenly the confidence of the players at the club is the major concern, when in the transfer window the only concern seemed to be getting in as many new faces as possible.

well i am amazed..

we dont need another striker (especially a 36 year old)

jerome and campbell should be our 2 main strikers! bendtner although a class act is too lazy, and vine im not convinced..

remember dj + jerome up at newcastle?

we have good strikers at the club, we just need someone who can get the best out of them....

we need a creative midfielder not anoher striker!!!!

Yes but so does everyone else in this league... If we'd found a 30+ playmaker happy to drop a division for regular football, I'm sure Bruce would have signed him.

Cole is a class act and I'm very excited that we've signed him. Shame we haven't Koumas or someone similar as a Midfield General but c'est la vie!

Cole could well prove to be a good signing but as others have said the forwards are not the problem.

It is hardly like our forwards are missing a bucket load of chances, we just don’t create much due to the team selections and tactics.

This is the same problem we have faced for the past few seasons and apparently nothing has been learned.

I am not a fan of Bruce , BUT i think he might just have pulled out another Dugarry in the short term, anyone who doubts what Cole can bring to our team take a look on YOU TUBE,he can score goals out of nothing[which is something he will have to do given the service the strikers at Blues get from our midfield .Welcome Andy/Andrew :banner:

I used to get annoyed how in the 2003 FA Premier League Sticker Book

They had Andy Cole down as Andrew

and Andrew Johnson, down as Andy.

This is the key point for me (although not sure about the weak defence).

As in past seasons our strikers have existed on scraps as we have failed to create chances from midfield... Pandiani, Sutton, Blake, Vine, Campbell, Heskey, Morrison, John, Yorke, Jerome, Bendtner... Cole is just going to be another one to add to the list...

I was just about to post something similar.

There is a list of 11 strikers whose goals dried up when or shortly after coming to Blues.

Thats ELEVEN so-called 'proven goal scorers' that mysteriously moved into the 'couldnt hit a barn door' category when at Blues. How strange < <

Welcome Andrew,i will put you down for 9 goals in the last 8 matches if thats ok with you? :banner:

This isn't the Andy Cole of Newcastle and Man U fame!! His goals:games ratio over the last six seasons is about 1 every 3 games. So we might get 2 out of him, 3 if we're lucky.

cant see forssell in the squad for the rest of the season now, which is good leave him in the reserves until next season and see how he does in pre-season.

Good signing he's easily good enough for this league even at 36 and hopefully he'll get a few games and score a couple of goals.
Only short-term cant see us signing him on a proper contract even if were in the prem next season.

I disagree... I think it's an awful decision. Can do nothing but de-motivate our own young strikers like DJ, Jerome and Viney. Remember a few people getting a bit excited about Yorke and Sutton... and they hardly set the world alight. Another journeyman striker, costing us a fortune in wages and can't even get a place in the Portsmouth team!! So much for Bruce's "re-build with youth, energy and enthusiasm" plans!! What a smack in the face!!

sorry, but this is a load of codswallop.

Doyou seriously think a man aged 36 will be chasing and scrapping for the ball? In this division, you need players who are willing to run around for the full 90 mins. Cole will be knackered after about 60 mins. If brucie was gonna bring in another player i would have thought he would have broughtin a left back or a creative midfielder. Not a 6th Striker wtf**

Sorry bruce but it seems like sutton all over again

Simple facts:
Our defence has proven itself good enough this season. We even won games when Tebily played.
Our tactics are too. We don't concede many goals, we are difficult to break down. Bet West Brom wish they were. All this guff about a 'creative' midfielder - who? We don't need one. You need strength and Koumas, the best there is, plays for another club.
When we went top in Oct./Nov, the front three were firing. They are not now.
Forssell isn't right, isn't ready.
Cole is the perfect sort of player we need - a goalscorer. None of the others are genuine goalscorers, Forssell apart - but three seasons ago, not now.
I think this signing could make all the difference. The other strikers are off the boil, young and inexperienced and do not have the quality Cole has. Cannot believe people are criticising this signing.
Assuming our defence stays solid, then Cole can take the chances that have gone begging, turning 1-0s or salvaging draws into 2-0s so stopping panic and edginess.

I don't have a problem with us signing Cole he has been a very good player, but its not what we really need at this moment in time what we do need is another defender and a left sided player.

The point you miss is our forwards aren't scoring for the simple fact we are not creating enough chances and our front two never get the support from our static defensive midfield.

Kevin Phillips doesn't do too bad does he, he hardly covers every blade of grass in his appearences.

Will Cole be any good..

I will tell you at the end of the season.

Sweet Jesus. I'd sooner have Kevin Francis upfront than Cole, at least Kev would have made a nuisance of himself at corners.
