Karren's Comments from The Sun on Saturday 24th March:

So the England dressing room was stained with the cancer of jealousy over head boy David Beckham's influence on headmaster Sven Goran Eriksson.

The story according to Eriksson's Israeli friend Pini Zahavi is that discontent over Beckham's favoured status spilled over onto the pitch.

Whether this was a little subversive reminder to a nervous England camp by Zahavi on the eve of today's game in Tel Aviv or a detail thrown up to impress us with the depth of his knowledge of the inner sanctums, i don't know.

But it is certainly dirty linen washed in public to the detriment of just about everyone connected with that dreary England campaign, with the possible exception of Eriksson's successor Steve Mclaren.

Before crediting the current England coach too highly for his instant dismissal of Beckham, however, it is necessary to point out that if ending his international future was supposed to work to the benefit of the team as a whole, it hasn'tso far.

I hope for Mclaren's sake it does tonight or the wolf pack are going to party on his reputation to such a degree that the chances of his survival as coach will be marginally higher than a gambolling lamb's.

The first reaction of most people to the Zahavi version will be that Beckham's team mates should grow up, but it is nowhere near as simple as that even if it should be.

Footballers' egos are not small things and, what's more the higher the mightier.

At club level it is common to find a leading figure not to be confused with a leaderwho attracts both admiration and envy for having a higher profile than the rest, sometimes for non football reasons.

At St Andrew's, Robbie Savage used to be the man.

This may or may not have been true of Beckham but i have little doubt that Eriksson's preferential treatment of the England captain off the field and particularly in selection irked a number of players.

The overwelming impression Eriksson left behind was of a man who loved to be close to modern icons close up and personal in the case of Ulrika Jonsson- of whom Beckham was in the world class.

It confused the coach's judgment, it seems, although many judges would back the Real Madrid player as the best passer in the team.

There are a couple of additional factors here. The absence of a veteran of ratonal and independant opinion (Alan Shearer or Gareth Southgate spring to mind) to help counterbalance the Beckham factor must have been sorely felt.

More than that, the job of wise old heads should have been Beckham's along with his pal Gary Neville.

But just as Gazza was disqualified from leadership because he was the very creature of the booze culture, so Beckham is the soul of the WAGs and Bling generation.

Now i have no problem liking Beckham. He's handsome, endearing and, essentially, a team man. The trouble is he's also a tool rather than an operator. That makes him subject to manipulation.

Zahavi hints that Eriksson knows he became starry eyed and picked Beckham when he shouldn't have.

This might have had explosive repercussions and, weather it hurt team spirit or not, it certainly did not help an already malfunctioning side.

Only Beckham himself could have done much about this but objective thinking is not one of his natural characteristics.

And then there were the WAGs. I like the idea of them and i like some of them personally. I can't see anythign wrong with wives and girlfriends quietly spending a few days at long running tournements.

It is possible that i am wrong about this, i admit, judging from the cricket team in Australia as well as from Germany.

The fact that the WAGs became a media circus was inevitable and possibly distracting to the players. There were also claims that Posh and family were given extra privileges which in this context was an open invitation to feeding frenzy, no doubt passed on with a sulk to players.

Too much should not be made of this. There were always going to be recriminations. However, the one truth our players know from the c o c k up in Germany is that they were not good enough. The rest is just gossip.

PS: Now i know why Mike Newell was the toughest negotiator i have encountered. And at a 10% take on each transfer no wonder the sacked Luton Manager wanted all the cash.

Thats all of it

Pot. Kettle. Black.

How st karren (gawd blimey ain't she marvellous) can criticise the FA for sticking by a cr@p manager when her determination to do the same got us relegated last year is beyond belief.

As usual with kb nothing ever is her fault.

I don't think she wrote the article.
I think its ghosted and she just takes the money for the use of her name.

The article that doc nick put up, is nearly word for word of an article written by that big fat bloke with a beard that was in the NOTW or Mirror on Sunday. In the pull-out section. I read it and thought, at last, the hacks are catching up with the fans. Then I saw the doc nick post and it rang so many bells.

I don't think she wrote it. Especially the little sign-off about O'Neil.
Think back to Steve's dark days as we hurtled to relegation, and the calls for Curbishley or....O'Neil. Now that is funny.

It's a smart article. She's highlighted that England are lacking direction, purpose and above all else any sense of passion out on the pitch. A side that has failed to score let alone win in competitive football for as long as England has, with the players England have, has to be questioned.

If England were at the top end of the group with a game in hand I'm sure the same questions wouldn't be asked.

the comments she makes are exactly the discussions that were taking place in the pub on saturday, and probably up and down the country.Yes its polished and carries an element of sarcastic wit but comes across to me as a fans view.

However if say at a fans forun someone stood up and gave similar observations about blues it leaves me wondering just how karren would respond.

In defence of Karren, if there was even a suggestion that McClaren was to be the next Birmingham City manager in place of Bruce I would demonstrate naked in Victoria Square to keep Bruce in his job.

McClaren is a truly dreadful manager, the worst sort of schmoozing politico type of manager. His first decision was to effectively sack Beckham and bring in Stuart Downing. That set the pace, and we've stumbled from one dreadful performance to another since.

Aaron Lennon on the left wing :ph43r:

I was going to say that I thought that I thought that McClaren was so bad that he made Bruce look genius - but then I would really have opened myself to the "thou must never criticise anything about Blues" squad

Doh! I've said it now

it just makes me wonder what she really thinks of the way we play.As our MD she couldnt write this even if she thought it.It covers players attitudes, bad management, bad appointment by the FA and the Long Ball to a small striker......... wtf**

shes a woman, what would she know about football? lol I'm only joking.

Well performance doesnt matter for the blues, its results. and international football is somewhat of a difference to the championship, unless you dave nugent of course.
