Hi There With our game against Birmingham fast approaching our thoughts are turning to producing our match programme for the game. This season PNE media are looking to involve the fans, both home and away, as much as possible in the publication and that is where you message board members may be able to help us out. Rather than producing the same standard old pen pics which get read in every programme at every ground you visit we want you fans to provide us with your opinions on your players. We aren't asking you to criticise members of your squad in any way at all, we want you to tell us who your best players are. There are five main categories. We'd like you to tell us which Birmingham player fits that category and why. The categories are as follows... The Icon - This player is the undisputed star of the team, the player that all opposition teams must fear. Teacher's Pet - The manager's favourite player, the one who can do no wrong and always seems to be in the team. Hardnut - The hardman enforcer, might pick up a lot of cards but would give his all for the cause. Mr Consistency - This player will never let the side down. He's always there when it matters whatever the weather. Wonderkid - This kid will be an international superstar in five years time. He'll take your team to the top or be sold for massive profits. Everyone who gets a contribution published will get a mention in the programme and the fan that comes up with the best answers will win a pair of tickets for the game. There are two ways you can respond, either by putting your reply in this thread or if you would prefer email me at media@pne.com putting Birmingham Player Profiles in the subject title. If you don't wish to be named in the match programme please indicate. Many Thanks PNE MEDIA |

The Icon- has to be gary mcsheffrey he can deliver a good ball, puts in a lot of hard work, can tackle, take people on and score over 15 goals from midfield Teachers Pet- Damien Johnson without a doubt Hardnut- Fabrice Muamba gets stuck in and breaks up all the play a vital part of our midfield Mr Consistency- Stephen Clemence came into the team after our defeat to Norwich and we have been a different team ever since. Always wants to win and never puts a foot wrong Wonderkid- Nicklas Bendtner although he is on loan he is still our wonderkid and some day will be a big name in football. Hopefully we could keep him but i'm sure Arsenal would like to have him back, Ac Milan have also shown interest in him already |

The Icon - Nicklas Bendtner is always dangerous, when the game just seems to be passing him by, he will come up with a bit of trickery that can change a game. Teacher's Pet - Damien Johnson is our managers ambassador on the pitch, some fans feel he gets picked every week regardless. Hardnut - Fabrice Muamba, at only 19 he has a great career ahead of him, he tackles as well as any one and can make powerful surges forward reminiscent of Patrick Viera. Mr Consistency - Stephen Clemence, this man has been a trojan for us this season, when he plays we usually win, pops up with important goals and works tirelessly for the team as a leader Wonderkid - This would be a split decision, they are both on loan for us currently, but Muamba and Bendtner will have very bright futures in the game, Cameron Jerome could also be one to watch out for. |

The Icon- Andy Cole. His record speaks for itself, not just at Blues but throughout his career. Played four, won four. Whatever he's said or done around the training pitch has worked near miracles over the last month. After Barnsley away the team looked buried, crushed and out on their feet, but Cole has come in and without running around or anything else so frightfully vulgar has livened the whole squad up. He's bringing the best out of a young group of players through leadership by example. Teachers Pet- Well, it has to be Damien Johnson really. The captain of the team and a man who polarizes opinion like few others. His commitment to the cause cannot be questioned, and he's accepted playing in any number of positions down the years. Rarely has a footballer been judged so much by what he can't do, rather than what he can and does do. Hardnut- His name is Muamba and there is no escaping him. Apart from when he's suspended. If he never plays for the Blues again, and please God let him play for the Blues again, he is always going to be remembered as the man who could launch himself into a tackle from just about anywhere on the pitch. Fearless at his age, he's only going to get better and better. Mr Consistency- Stephen Clemence. Suffers from famous father syndrome somewhat less than others, probably due to playing in a completely different position. Clemence has finally nailed down a steady place in the team and repaid the manager with the best football of his career. Candidate for player of the season without doubt, he popped up with vital goals when the team were in the doldrums and has formed partnerships quickly and effectively with pretty much anyone he's been asked to play alongside. Wonderkid- Nevermind international star in a few years, Niklas Bendtner's three goals in three games mean he is an international star already. Tall, quick, skilful, he does have all the tools to be a great, at 19 he's still figuring out how to get the best out of those tools. In five years time he will be smashing them in at the highest level without doubt. And may I just say kind Mr. Preston fan, supporter of a wonderful old traditional team, that I think this idea of yours is quite, quite spiffing, and the prize of two tickets for the match is something that would be enjoyed by many Blues. :) |

I have 2 changes, for me Hardnut has to be: Nafti very rarely starts is hard in the tackle, fights in games he hasnt even got onto the pitch to play in the 90 mins, has most yellow cards from fewest starts. Wonderkid: That has to be Muamba as Bedtner already plays for the national team whereas Muamba has yet to break into the National 1st team but surely will in a matter of years |

The Icon - The Icon has to be Andrew Cole, his record speaks for itself, and the fact that he has played 4 games, we've won the 4 games hes played in only highlights his class. He is also mentoring young Cameron Jerome, with great sucess, with the former Cardiff man impressing recently, and scoring two vital goals in the past 2 games. Teacher's Pet - This has to be Damien Johnson, our captain. Im a fan of Johnson, if he plays centre midfield, which he probably will against Preston due to Fabrice Muamba's suspension, but its when Bruce accomodates him in the team for the sake of it, often on right wing, at the expense of one of our more creative players, Sebastien Larsson. Hardnut - The hardmans undoubtedly Fabrice Muamba. Although only on loan with us, he has gave his all in every game for the club, and would tackle a brick wall if it meant Birmingham could win the game!He has showed the passion he has for the game, and the passion he has for Birmingham numerous times. Got sent off vs Sheffield Wednesday, wrongly in my view, so will miss the Preston game, and this will be a big loss to the Birmingham midfield. Mr Consistency - The outstanding candidate for this is Stephen Clemence. Hes stood in for Damien Johnson as captain many times this season, and has not let the club down. His passion and drive makes him a fans favourite down St.Andrews, so I would have to go for him. Although, our centre half Martin Taylor would push him close, as he has been a real rock at the back for us this season. Wonderkid - Two words. Nicklas Bendtner. Although technically an Arsenal player, and already an international (albeit, mainly a substitute for his native Denmark), he has all the raw attributes to be a very successful player. He has height, a bit of strength and also the ability to go past defenders with ease. A natural finisher too, give him space, and he will punish teams. No wonder teams such as AC Milan have been linked with him recently. Hope thats a good sum up of the players! If im successful, please PM me? |

The Icon – Gary McSheffrey, he can deliver a killer ball from the left and anyone who produces 15 goals a season from left wing deserves iconic status. He is number 1 rated by Actim and by most Blue’s fans. Teacher's Pet – This as I’m sure every Bluenose would tell you is Jonty. Our captain Johnson is known to be a favourite of Brucies but he is a never say die type who is an asset to our team. Our Mr versatility leads by example and has played in just about every position but in goal and even scored us a wonder strike at the Baggies. His fiery temper has caused him a few problems in the past (the infamous shirt throwing incident) but on the whole he runs through brick walls for his team never giving less than 100%, even a broken jaw couldn’t persuade him off the pitch. Hardnut – Judging by our tally of sendings off you could argue a few names for this title but I nominate Muamba. Though he is not our player as such he fights for every last ball and plays like his life depends on it. To say he tackles hard is an understatement but it means he is superb at breaking down play in the middle. Opposition players run in the other direction at the sight of him. I wish to sign him up just so our players are safe from playing against him next year!!! The only player on the pitch safe from Muamba is the goalkeeper, Fabrice couldn't hit the proverbial barn door. Mr Consistency – Midfielder Clemence although not one of our bigger names, deserves this accolade hands down this season. He hasn’t always had much of a chance the last few years but this season he has shone. He is as passionate as they come and will never quit and this has made him a firm fans favourite. Wonderkid – This has to be our second Arsenal loanee Bendtner. Whilst a touch arrogant he has natural ability like I have rarely seen at St Andrew’s. He is the complete package, tall athletic and quick. In years to come Blues fans will pinch themselves in disbelief that this kid ever pulled on our shirt. He has a superb touch and can run round defenders like they are barely there. A few years of playing in the Premiership and this lad will be a star name. |

Thanks for this opportunity. Our Icon: This has to go to Andrew Cole. His reputatation and past achievments speaks volumes for this iconic striker. He has the lot:talent, leadership and the class that gave us the icing on the cake. Teachers Pet: Undoubtedly Damien Johnson our Captain and number 22. A great hardworking utilty player. He cost the club £50,000 from Blackburn and has repaid Brucey a hundred times over. Can play central midfield, right or left back and scored a contention for goal of the season at West Brom to earn us a vital point. Our Hardnut: Medhi Nafti is our hardnut; he is also known as "Nasty". He takes no prisoners Nafti is a tunisian international who has great attitude, is not frightend to tackle knows how to pass the ball too! Beware of him! Mr Consistency: Stephen Clemence. Stephen makes the difference always performs and when the chips are down, he is always there to pick up the rest of the team and "take the bull by the horns". A very brave player and congratualtions to him on the recent birth of his child. Blues Wonderkid: We have several contenders for this, but this honour has to go to Danish International Niklas Bendnter. He is an amazing talent, wonderful feet and reads the game with great awareness. He can make a goal for himself or another player when it seems most unlikely. He is going to be an awesome superstar one day. Janet Bennett. Tamworth |

I`ve tried to add a bit of variety than the answers we expected... Our Icon - Martin Taylor, was used and abused IMO when Upson was here only being called upon as an almost last resort, despite this never complained and just got on with whatever he was asked to do.Since Uppy left for the bright lights of London and their impending relegation,Taylor has slipped in almost seamlessly, has been a rock at times and no coincidence we have the second best defensive record in the division. Teachers Pet - Damien Johnson,an issue that has done and still does divide fans.My own personal opinion is anyone who takes off the clubs shirt and throws it to the ground should never be made captain regardless of the circumstances.Saying that he still has an important role within the club. Hardnut - Mehdi Nafti, reckless at times but his heart is in the right place. Consistency - Stephen Clemence,Similar to Taylor in that he has had to play second fiddle to DJ a lot and undeservedly in my opinion, gives his all every game and quite often pops up with vitally important goals. Also as a fan its always nice to see emotion from players and when Clem scores he dont hold back whatsoever and always celebrates `with` the fans. Wonerkid - Colin Doyle, many candidates including Seb,Bendy,Macca but for me as a youngster the hardest position to break and hold is the goalkeeper position. While still raw in some areas young Doyley has posted some magnificent displays which again have no doubt heavily contributed to the defensive record.Oh and saved the extra time penalty against the Wolves the other week which was great. **thumbup If you could get back to me on the possibility of ordering a copy of the program i`d be greatful. The Icon - Can't decide between Andy Cole (as everyone else has said, his record speaks volumes!) & Gary McSheffrey (scoring as many goals as he has makes him one of the 'players to watch') Teacher's Pet - Damien Johnson. He has his uses i.e. winning the ball back for the team etc., but doesn't really do much else :( Hardnut - Definately Fabrice Muamba - he's always there getting stuck in. I think the energy that he's got really comes out & in years to come will make him an even better player than what he is now :) Mr Consistency - When he plays, Mat Sadler. He's a born and bred Blues fan and, in my opinion, plays his heart out in every single game. Wonderkid - Without a shadow of a doubt Colin Doyle. His performances, particularly of late, have been fantastic, and in the majority of time, has kept the Blues in games. Also, to keep a class goalkeeper (Maik Taylor) on the bench deserves alot of credit. Doyley has really made that position his own :) |

The Icon - Seb Larsson, scored his fair share of goals this season, great crosser and great dribbler of the ball Teacher's Pet - Damien Johnson , Although hes a decent player normally always seems to be in the side after a dodgy display Hardnut - Muamba, Who needs Robbie Savage? Our energy in midfield and not scared to go in for a challenge (Banned for Preston game) Mr Consistency - Clemence, Rock in midfield, always seems to drive the team on during games, always gives 100%, should be captain Wonderkid - Bendtner, Only on loan unfortunatly but already scoring for Denmark at full international level, great future ahead of him |

Agree with all of the above really... Another shout for Mr. Consistent could be Martin Taylor, he's been a rock at the back since Upson left Another case for teacher's pet could be Stephen Clemence he's quite reliable but lets face it, he has the attacking ability of Damien Johnson and doesn't ALWAYS play well, rarely left out of the starting line up though. Not taking anything away from him though, he's been important for us this season. If you had one for unsung hero I'd say DJ Campbell, been consistent all season even though he hasnt broken in to the first team for an extended period, rarely lets us down when he comes on and has a impressive goals to minutes ratio. |

The Icon - Andrew Cole. Okay, only a recent addition, but had a massive affect in our crucial games at the end of the season. His impact isn't just seen in what he does on the pitch - his calming influence on strikers like Bendtner and Jerome, and his other teamates, has been tangible. Seen it all. Won it all. And now a winner again with Brum. Teacher's Pet - Damien Johnson. If he's fit, he plays. Quite why is sometimes hard to figure. Perhaps because he never gives less than 100%. But fairly criticised for being too defensive. Hardnut - Mehdi Nafti, lives up to his 'Nasty' tag. Not afraid to put his foot in where it hurts - someone else! Mr Consistency - Stephen Clemence. The reason we are now a Premiership team. Our most creative midfielder. A stand-in captain (when 'teacher's pet' isn't available), but many fans first choice for the role. Arguably our player of the season (although most have opted for McSheffrey). Wonderkid - Bendtner. Already a legend in his own mind, and a precocious talent in reality. Ooozes class, but is temperemental when teamates dont meet his own expectations. Doesn't chase lost causes. But why should he? Idol or idle? Depends on your point of view. Is he a Gunner or just another big shot? Only time will tell. |

The Icon - Gary McSheffrey, he will perform 90% of the time, and when he does, he scores goals and creates goals for fun! Quick, great finisher, and a bargain at 4 million IMO :) Teacher's Pet - Damien Johnsen. He can be a handful when he plays well, but i dont think that he plays well as much as he maybe should. However, he can pop in with an important goal every 4 years ;) Hardnut - Fabrice Muamba. Tons of energy, not sure where he keeps it! Loves to fly into tackles and wins them more often than not, and hopefully will stay here next year, as he will be a club favorite in years to come. Mr Consistency - Stephen Clemence. Always plays well, gives his all and is the rock of our midfield. He will never give up, even when we are losing, he will definately be one of the men chasing the ball all over the pitch Wonderkid - Colin Doyle Some people may say Bendtner, but Doyle has been consistent, never given up, and used his break into the first team fantastically. Has proved he can be a match winner. He will go on to great things! Courtesy of Brad Smith ;) |

The Icon – Gary McSheffchenko, works hard, scores loads, gets loads of assists, and has hair that changes almost as often as Mr David Beckham himself. Teacher's Pet – Damian Johnson, while there is no doubting DJ gives 100%, there has been times this season when it just wasn’t right to bring him back into the team after injury, and he was, and times when he should have been subbed and wasn’t. Hardnut – Damian Johnson, the man played on with a broken jaw... Mr Consistency – Stephen Clemence, you know what you’re going to get with Clemence, puts his foot in, never bottles a tackle and has chipped in with some very vital goals this year. Wonderkid – Unfortunately not a Blues player but Bendtner will be a top class player in a few years. |
