On the basis that a lot of people seem to think that we get £40 million just for promotion.

We don't actually collect the bulk of any bonanza until the end of our first season in the Premiership - before then our transfer kitty is funded by Season Ticket sales and the subsidy given by the board.

As Karren has said already - it is upto the board to dig deep again and finance our transfers.

So at what level do you think it will reach?
Bearing in mind the amount of new players we may need and the amount of Premiership experience we may need. And the Board's ambition.

Try the Poll as well.

Depends entirely on the type, amount and availability of the players we want. We are once again going to have to take the bset of what goes down, the best of whats below us and/or a smattering of whats in the rest of the world/what the big four don't want/what we can steal of the lower mid table teams. Were not going to be battling with the big four for signatures so we don't need silly money. But we may be affected by the idea of money and the over inflated prices that normally follow.

It's anyones guess, but i would put a figure of £20 000 000 and then work from there.

True, I don't think we are going to make Chelsea or Man Utd's next targets pause for thought about St Andrew's.

But imo we need a shedload of players for the Premiership.
7 or 9 at least. If we take 3 loanees, that means we've got to find money for about 4-6 players. And will they be Prem-Ready ?

I reckon we will splash about £15 million in the summer, and then come January he will probably be given another £5-10 million depending on our position, this will still leave us with a reasonable amount for the next season should we survive, and when you think we made a poop load of cash out of the Upson, Pennant and Heskey sales,

:LMAO: :LMAO: :LMAO:

Excuse me, combined with the fortunes of the TV money we will receive and a new Sponsorship deal, we will have the funds to match and maybe even out bid a lot of teams.

i think the board will use the excuse that those sales were to cover the fact that we were not in the prem and so no prise money. Also to balance the books and bring us into or keep us in the black.

I dont think we will have a set transfer budget. I think the board will back Bruce, ask who he wants and then say yes or no, depending on how much they will probbly cost.

They know what it takes so i think they will spend what it takes.

I think they will spend more than you think.

I for one can't wait to see who comes in.

At least Steve has had a look at the young athletic up and coming players that are in the Championship. There should be some less expensive players that will do a job here.

I'm interested to see what comes out of his new Europeon scouting system.

As long as he carrys on with his new buying policy and stays away from the journey men.

Cole i think Bruce should sign as a player / coach. He is a true Professional and would not take us for a ride.

It was only last week that DS said the board would spend bigtime and make sure that we had at least 5/6 quailty ready players to keep us up.Would be good to know who the targets are but i know thats not going to happen.

IMO i dont wanna hear all this carry on about transfer kitty and that lot, yes we need a few players, but i would really want to see good pros who would take a bullet for the team, rather than £40k a week plus bonuses etc. Fingers crossed Brucies learnt his lesson from the last lot of fat cats.

Andrew Cole:

Quote:

He said: "What are Birmingham's chances of staying up? They are going to have to spend a right few quid. I think everyone knows that.

"I don't think anyone is under any illusions and that they will have to spend a few quid but I think they will do just that. When you do go up, it's about consolidating for the first season and then going from there.

"There are players here with potential but everyone knows you can't go up to the Premiership with the squad which has just come out of the Championship. That would be very difficult.

"Everyone knows Steve Bruce is going to try to buy players and I should the board are going to back him and give him a substantial amount of money to do that and then we can go from there. They will have to spend, spend, spend.

And David Sullivan has said today that he has no targets and will wait for the May Board Meeting to discuss things. When we last got promotion, I remember one big explanantion that was used, was that we were weeks behind other clubs, because we didn't know if we were up or not till after Cardiff, and by then a lot of those available had been snapped up.

So, are we waiting again for the Board meeting to finish, or is there some urgency to get in ahead of the pack ?

I think we need a few creative players, in various positions, to counter balance the workers and diehards we already have.
My hope would be about 6 premiership standard players.
Even 3 loanees amongst them will leave it at about £3-4 million per player.
So thats £9 - 12 million & 3 loans.

And, as has been said, the faster they get on the case the better, imo.

Agree. That's the way they've always done it - and I doubt that they will change now.

I'm not expecting many £5m+ players arriving here in the summer. But I think that we will still make some potantially good singings, with maybe another star or two arriving in Januray. It's a policy that has worked for us before.

Budget will be what it usually is I guess: £4 million to include wages, so sell players before you can buy and balance the books please....nothing will ever change.....should make an even healthier profit tho

Just wonder if Wigan get relegated if Brucey will go in for Scharner and will the board back him this time. Wonder just off my head if Bruce and Allardyce will team up next season to make the dream team, with the amount and quality of players that Big Sam was able to attract to Bolton just imagine with the kitty our board could provide the quality of players we could get, I know just me deluding myself but hey it would be a very interesting summer of activity.

Actually if we check back he didn't get the chance to say no, the board didn't support Bruces valuation of him. Bruce was really7 mad at them at that time. Have a feeling Bruceys first target will be Joey Barton.

He's caused them constant trouble, and he's recently said in the media the club aren't going anywhere.

Joey would be an immense signing.
