Ridsdale: Stop blaming me By James Pearson - Created on 1 May 2007 Cardiff City chairman Peter Ridsdale wants Leeds United fans to stop blaming him for the club's current predicament. The Whites are on the verge of slipping into League One, four years after Ridsdale left Elland Road with the club saddled with debt. Ridsdale has admitted he made mistakes while in charge of the fallen giants, but feels everyone concerned now with the club needs to look forward, rather than back. "I feel very sorry for Leeds United. I've always wished them well since I left," he told Sky Sports News. "I'm a bit sick and tired of people blaming me. It's been four years since I left. I don't expect to be told it's my responsibility they look as if they're going into League One. "I left the club in a very strong position in terms of playing squad. They clearly had £78.9million of debt which could have been serviced if they retained their Premiership status. "One day soon hopefully people will start looking forward. What purpose does it serve four years after I left if people think it's easy for people to vent their frustration at me. "It's dead easy for people to point the finger. Clearly we made mistakes and I've admitted that, but I've not made mistakes there over the past four years. "Till Leeds United supporters stop blaming me for everything that's happened in the past they will never get it right. Their current plight is not my fault." And you think this is going to make them anymore happy?????????????????????????? He would off been better saying nothing. |

the arrogance of the man. He's right to a degree, but he surely must shoulder the blame that he and o'leary sanctioned the ourlay in terms of money and spending on players that they did. They gambled big time and it was always doomed to failure... you only have needed to look at the Leeds crowd figures to know that a few bad results and that was it, game over. It is his fault, but not just his... they have gone through manager after manager since o'leary and so some of the failure must lay there, if they had spent some of the money they had on someone who could have definatley kept them up on a shoshoeing then they might have been ok. What amazes me is after Peter Reid saved them from relegation he was sacked!!! Mounting debts forced them to sell players and the managers they had didn't understandably like it. Risdale left soon after Reid and Leeds with no money appointed Eddie Gray a Leeds Stalwart. He was appointed as the receivers coped with the selling of players, some of whoms price was falling as teams knew the plight the club were in. that season saw them relegated from the top flight, nothing new for Leeds fans they have been there before but this time they had a depleted squad and no money, their ground isn't the best either. The worst things are the fact they sold their training ground and then sold A 50% stake in the club for a mere £10million to Ken Bates. Kevin Blackmore came in and took them to the play offs....and this is where i feel leeds still hadn't learnt, at the start of this season a few bad results and they sacked the manager, the man who on a shoestring (something they badly needed) had taken them to the play offs!! so now the club, love them or hate them, 1 fa Cup,2 x Inter-Cities Fairs Cup/UEFA Cups, 3 first/prem titles...now sit in the 3rd Tier, amazing. Almost like Forest except Forest at least have some money...leeds have nothing. I still haven't heard of any players being taken off the wage bill, which is amazing. |

He's right. He is not to blame for everything the rest of the blame can be shared with the tea lady for some shocking selections in the Biscuit tin at half time. A disgrace i tell thee. |

oh how we envied leeds just 4 short seasons ago - on the threshold of great things and let it slide to the point of economical oblivion. how these people are ever allowed to run footy clubs using other people's money is beyond me, i wouldn't trust ridsdale with the tea kitty at our place, let alone a debt of near £80m.... wtf** |

Yes you are right blooboy, Ridsdale should shoulder the blame. How did O'Leary sanction any of this? No time for the bloke personally, but surely if the money was made available to him then he'll take, won't he? He was the manager, not the financial director. Leeds gambled everything on making the champions league again, which never happened. I'm sure O'Leary was just as blind to Leeds' financial problems as everyone else. |

Yeah O leary wasnt to blame (altho it is fun to blame him :D ) Ridsdale should stop being so bloody arrogant and admit it was his fault. Not ALL his fault cos he had a PLC board to back him, who also were to blame BUT he was the main man, he was in charge so at the end of the day, he should take the blame. Its unbelievable really, and his claims that the fans had "lived the dream", so as to basically say, its not my fault cos they got to go to Champs League etc is gob smacking. Im sure they would of settled for around UEFA cup places for the last few seasons, and still have a football club. |

Ridsdale has also claimed recently that, if the supporters had not pushed him out, the club would not be in the position it is today. Brian Cathcart's investigative piece on the downfall of Leeds United under Ridsdale makes interesting reading..... http://football.guardian.co.uk/comment/sto...1164090,00.html |
