Sorry to burst everyones bubble but if we play like that next season we will be straight back down. And, I am not blaiming Bruce, he went for it second half and it was the strikers that were not up to the task.

..... but yet another pathetic refereeing decision costs us. How did D'Urso fail to award our penalty.

I'm sorry that's just a flag of convenience. Were were poor from start to finish.

You find winners at the Stadium of Light and bottlers at St Andrews.

Just not good enough I'm afraid.

Jackoblue

there have been a number of occasions this season when we have not 'bottled' it in my recignition jacko. Last Saturday for example, down to 10 men, needing a win against a team that were flying, did we bottle it then?
Let it drop ffs your depression catches on mate.

We bottled it when it mattered.

Its like an F1 race, you go around in 1st place, doing really well, then just slowing down at the end and letting 2nd overtake you and you saying oh well, im on the podium

We obviosly didn't bottle it when it mattered because we won promotion. Wolves and Sheffield prime examples in recent weeks.

We'll finish with less points than Watford.

Big pressure on Bruce now to bring in the right players and be judged on them by Christmas.

Sorry Chris, I have to disagree. We had a prime chance to go up as champions. If you are defining success over the next few seasons as getting 40 points to stay up, then there's little point in it just to make up numbers IMO

Move over Tom Ross. Who said men can't multi-task?

Three cheers for Jackoblue. The best running commentary I've read and followed all season

Jacko for the Radio, Jacko for Stadium announcer, Jacko for Chief Sports writer.

Thankyou my friend, excellent work.

No problem at all. Just glad you guys were able to follow my ramblings lol

I dont know what the big deal is

1. we been playing like this for a big chunk of the season

2. the opponents havent the quality to score given their chances

3. majority of the teams in this league are utter pants anyway

just be glad we have been promoted and fingers crossed on next season

lets just enjoy the holiday and transfer speculation and wait till august until we start up the doom and gloom

No-one's diagreeing with you, the chance was there and we blew it, but the bigger picture was automatic promotion, the title would have been a welcome bonus.
As for making up the numbers, this club should be in the top flight and has alot of potential, if people think it's going to come overnight then sadly there wrong.

We will struggle next season I have no doubt, but struggling after 2 or 3 seasons will not be my idea of success

Success no, realistic it may be. No-one wants to just make up the numbers and it's down to the board, management and players that we try and do more than that, but were talking about 2/3 seasons down the line.

In a way I'm glad. Cole has helped over the last few games but do we really want to be paying out a fortune on wages to a 30 odd year old player who, with respect, is past his best?

Of course if he really wanted to play Premiership football next season he happily take a fairly decent £10k a week from us wouldn't he? Then again he is a professional footballer isn't he? and money means more to them then anything.

Thanks for your efforts Andy and good luck to you if you can get what you want from someone else.

This game was not untypical of many we've seen this year - except we missed the chances to win it. Even when we have won matches, we've rarely dominated them and looked so comfortable that a win was never in doubt.

I cant say that I am worried about next season though, because we have yet to see who is brought in. It would be crazy to try and guess how well we'll do next season based on this seasons performances and this seasons squad.

I just hope that the owners recognise that the changes need to be more than cosmetic. We are weak in so many areas. We need a quality left back, a central defender, a creative midfield general (as well as Muamba) and a forward to replace Bendtner. And I'm not talking about squad players, i'm talking about quality that will command their place in the team. And that's for starters.

Today may have been a timely reminder that there's a lot to be done before August. Maybe the cloud of losing the Championship will have a silver lining in that we will be better prepared for our next campaign.

Just listened to Steve on Sky "Maybe we needed that little bit of luck". Steve pal we've had more than enough of luck this season. You need to make your own luck.

Poor performance today, a bit disappointed that we didn't win the championship but the important thing is that we are promoted and we should be happy about that. Judging by the performances of all the other teams i am glad we are not in the play-offs. :Blues:

Just wondered why their goal scorer was still on the pitch after his goal. The cheat had already been booked for diving in the box, and then went and celebrated with the crowd, which is a second yellow, i know this is rather picky of me but i think it sums up a ref that bottled every thing in relation to us. He did not give us the penalty, he gave numerous fouls their way when they should of gone ours (Bendtner was jumped on at one point and got penalised), there was also the goal kick he gave which should have been our corner, and the corner he gave that should have been our goal kick. I know its easy to blame the ref, but another terrible performance by the man in the middle could have actually cost us some silver ware.

As for the players, they missed chance after chance, and the game started to look alot like Barnsley, but you can not really blame them because at the end of the day they managed to get us into this position, but you would have though that McSheffrey could have scored one of thoes chances or just got them on target, and Jaidi could have got his header on target.

I also wonder if any one has the stats for the games Nafti has started and the result at the end of the game ?

Coming back to the phrase which the club likes to use alot at the moment "We have learnt from our mistakes" REALLY, because i though that we were once again not shooting from out side the box, and trying to walk the ball into the back of the net, which is what we have done time and time again, and yes it does work and can be effective, but when you are not getting near the goal, how about having a shot from the edge of the area. I hope that we really have learnt from our mistakes otherwise we will be in trouble again.

Also, their could be a valid reason for this, but no Sadler again, and no sign of an Attacking Midfielder AGAIN.

I know this is one big moan, but at the moment it does not feel like we have been promoted, in fact it feels like we have just lost a cup final, because we bottled it.

Keep Right On!

I am absoloutley gutted we didnt win the championship. It says it all really, 100 years and won eff all is a prettty good summary of us lot.I reckon you could have given us a 100 point start this season and we still would have found a way to finish second, thats the blues for ya. Weve been doing it since 1875 ffs! I honestly thought todays result wouldnt bother me but Im beside myself. It feels like we havent been promoted imo. I never thought it would feel this bad to come second.

Not only that, weve got to listen to the pro sunderland brigade kissing keanos bum for the next three months.

Dont get me wrong, I am chuffed deep down but I just feel empty somehow, frustrated even. Does anyone else feel the same?

Again, im absoloutely gutted, gutted!

Sorry to moan on what is all in all a great day/week for the club

P.S.
Well done brucie and the boys for doing 99/100's of the job. Ill probably feel better tomorrow.

It's not getting beat though is it? It's the manner of it.

If we'd attacked Preston from the off, worked their goalkeeper and show some real desire that we wanted to go out there and be winners it wouldn't be so bad had Preston sneaked a 1-0 win.

As it is we lost 1-0 and we didn't really want it.
