MATTHEW UPSON has given West Ham a massive boost by agreeing to stay even if they are relegated.

Central defender Upson, 28, was a £6million January signing from Birmingham.

He has played just 41 minutes for the Hammers because of injury and has decided not to invoke the get-out clause in his contract.

I have just taken this from The Sun website but i cant beleive how 2 faced he is. Where was his loyalty to Blues yet alone his contract when he was here. He left cause he thought he wouldnt be noticed for the England squad in the Championship! What the hells he doing now? :banghead:

Forget all the rubbish you heard him spout about moving to a bigger club. the only bigger thing he was interested in is his wages.

Lets face it Upson done us a favor

Couldn't agree more.

Upson's motivations:
1. Money
2. Money
3. Money

I note he waited to pledge his allegiance and not invoke the relegation clause until Wet Spam look like they may survive....

Why would he pledge his future to them if they get relegated, yet make sure he had a clause in his contract that if they are relegated then he can leave? ;)

Because he didn't have that clause in his Blues' contract.
And he was one of the lowest paid in that "Superstars Team" of ours.

He told Bruce and the fans that he wouldn't renew a year previously.
And, like all of that team, he wanted out.

Expect the same by Christmas again, when we start getting huge earners playing alongside Championship waged players.

I don't even know why we're talking about him. He has zero to do with Blues - I know this is in football chat but....well.

You mean, no matter which treatment table you are lying on, don't you?

well either way his interest was money - we got around £6 million for him - he didnt do much for us this season and wasnt missed when he wasnt playing so we gained 6 million - didnt have to pay his wages - and im sure we can get more quality that will help with the extra money saved.

he isnt going to leave because now everybody knows how unfit he is and no-one will sign him and pay him what he wants - so he will stay at west spam getting his 50k a week

Actually, in all seriousness, I feel sorry for the man. Career decimated. He might renuild later, but his best years have passed him by, as did the oportunity to play for England. All down to his injuries.

I know what you mean. He might've wanted to ditch Brum for a Premiership team who could offer him more wages, but he was a solid defender.

Its the same with Dunn. Billed as the next Gazza but injuries ruined his career and his best years have passed. I doubt he'll even get into the England B team squad later this month.

I dont think he s going to have much choice but to stay with them.

Whos going to risk money on him untill he s proved that he s not a crock, certainly not one of the teams that he considers that he should be playing for.

There is not one moment since he left that i regretted his sale. Tiny and RJ have filled in superbly. IMO he was a potential distraction that i think we are worth shot of.

If he did leave for money and not success as i guess is proven by the team he joined then i do find his departure a sad day for football once more.

He left Arsenal to get first team football in Birmingham - a footballing reason. He left Birmingham for West Spam for a footballing reason? i doubt it. I assume that the feelings of others on this board bear closer to the truth , that MU left for money. At what point does a footballer switch from being motivated by the game to being so by the pound sign? Is it that in his heart he feels that he has reached the very zenith of his career and that now is the time to cash in on a turbulent career spent mainly in reserves and physio rooms.

I'd like to know when the spirit dies in these players and the reasons why.

I don't know the exact details of the transfer deal but wasn't some of the money dependant on appearances? If so we really want him playing for West Spam rather than sitting on the treatment table (again) regardless of which division they're in.

He's getting 50k a week even without playing. Not a bad wage for not playing in the Championship. At least he's consistent he didn't play much for us either!!
