Championship Attendances

Just heard the "Director of The Championship" (!) on the radio.

Apparantly this season saw the biggest 2nd tier attendances for over 50 years (which puts blues's poor support in an even more worrying light).

The Championship was the 4th best attended league in Europe (behind the prem, la liga & the bundesliga)

But you forget that Blues averages attendances this season have been on a par - if not slightly more - than they were 5 years ago when we last in the Champ.
It's the norm - Championship sides rarely sell out week on week, with crowds only really picking up towards the end of the season if a team is doing well.
Granted, you have your own thoughts on ticket prices, and maybe these haven't helped, but the figures don't lie. Championship side equalled Championship average attendances.

I'd be interested to see an attendance table based on percentage of capacity - no doubt the Colchesters or Southends would be up there, but with capacities of under 10k, that wouldn't be surprising.

Were 6th which isnt bad if you look that Sunderland are 18th and Derby are 5th just ahead with our west midlands rivals are 9th and 11th (west brom and wolves).
Norwich are top but in all fairness only have a capacity of 25000.

I wish the pundits would read that table. Especially the other week with Sunderland V Burnley, they kept going on about how they sold out and the fans are wonderful and 'love their football' up there. Where were they when they were hanging about near the bottom

A 45,000 sell out isnt bad in a city about a fifth of the size of Birmingham.

Nice to see those passionate Leeds fans know where the stadium is. Wonder if they'll keep up the passion in Division 3.

Clubs excuses my friend.

Birmingham has a pop of over 1 MILLION people.
The city of Wolverhampton has a population of near the same size as Sunderland.
Sandwell and Walsall all in similar size to Newcastle and Sunderland.

We attract less of percentage population than Sunderland and many other clubs particularly Norwich, must be one of the most football mad places in the UK.
