A combination of well above average A, above average B and average C players with Premiership ability.

Need A's is keys positions and no more than three average. Start playing below average D's regularly or getting Championship D performances and we're doomed.

I think that the only definitely A we have is Maik Taylor but we may have others in Doyle, Larsson and Muamba but I believe they'll be proven B's very soon. I have hopes for McSheffrey and Jerome.

The definite C's are Kelly, Jaidi, n'Gotty, Clemence, Gray, Nafti, Johnson. The possible C's are Vine, Danns, Martin Taylor and Kilkenny.

I'll be pleasetly surprised if anyone else out of this season's regular's rise above D.

I would say we have are short of at least five A's (both c/backs; central midfield; two strikers) and B's at left back at least (to get the best out of McSheffrey)

I also think that the siege mentality of our previous Prem campaigns won't be good enough. Teams with an abundance of talented players are struggling each year now (Middlesborough, Fulham, Newcastle, West Ham, V i l l a) - you need both.

I hope everyone at the club is up for this.

Well I might as well say it before anyone else does.

A new manager.

WE NEED 5 TO 6 GOOD QUALITY PLAYERS,
some of our present squad will bite the dust,if we retain all of them then I'm not sure where we will end up,
we need a left back with prem experience ,thats a must,
a pacey centre back,to go with whoever we retain,
a quality left winger and right winger,or someone in centre midfield who can control a game and pass the ball with accuracy,
a quality striker in view of the fact we are losing Cole and Bentner, maybe 2 strikers,
to me those positions are a must to be filled,
there will be players leaving but who we replace them with is so important this time around,
i gather Karren Brady has already got Brucie's list as he will be off on holiday very soon.

A new manager.

I believe that's a prerequite too. But to put it in would turn this into another Bruce bashing thread.

I live in hope that he will change though.

Cant you lot give it a rest knocking Bruce, some of us are starting to get bored with it, every damn thread ends up the same, how about a decent constructive discussion instead of the same rubbish day in, day out. How about having two forums, one for those that want to look forward positively and the the other for miserable sods who will never be satisfied!

A different attitude from everyone at the club.

Owners - more ambitious. I want the owners to fulfil their promise to spend big on strengthening the team. I want them to make difficult decisions when they need to be made for the good of the club - whatever they are.

Manager - less inflexibility. The manager must pick the best team and system on a game by game basis, rather than doggedly relying on us defending for our lives and nicking a goal. He has to realise that his favourite player may not always be the right choice for a particular match. He has to stop this suicidal policy of playing people out of position just to accomodate his favourites. We may have got away with it in the Championship - we wont in the top flight.

Players - more courageous. I want the players to have a go - particularly in the top half of the field. Too often they haven't had the courage to have a crack, to make the run into the box, to stick their head in where it hurts. That has to change.

Fans - more passionate. The fans have to make St Andrew's a cauldron of fear. We have to become intimidating. We have to be the 12th man again. It happened during our first season - it can happen again. I know many are disappointed that Bruce is still in charge, and I have no doubt that the dispondency about that has taken it's toll on the atmosphere at St Andrews, particularly given the rather uninspiring football he plays, but we have to overlook that while we're at the ground.

Good post Bluediver and Kevinc_uk, no one is knocking Bruce BUT we have to hope that this season we progress at a better rate and the right players are brought in.Anyone who thinks this team will survive without real top replacements being brought in is living elsewhere.
I want to see us playing decent football next season, that means better than this season which at times has been dreadfull in a poor League.

The squad we had before was not good enough or big enough.

One of the mistakes made before was the bilding of a very good 1st choice 11 and not a whole squad. Once the first choice players were unavailable for long periods those coming in couldn't match the quality.

We know the manager has learned from his mistakes but have those holding the cheque book learned from theirs?

We have been stumbling this season because when McSheffrey lost form we had no natural replacement, same with Kelly, same with sadler, same with Larsson so all of these players, first choice this season, need back up at least. All of the players we all said we needed in January are still needed and then some.

We will need at least 5 or 6 players and we MUST compete for signatures with clubs like Bolton, Portsmouth, West Ham, Middlesbrough, Fulham and maybe even Newcastle and Everton. We have to compete in the transfer market and we have to make the kind of signings that have escaped us in the past.

Next season is about strengthening a team full of potential and getting to the magic 40-45 points as soon as possible.

big big decisions to be made on who comes and goes,
some present players will have to leave if we are to progress.

Surviving isn't enough.

We should go buy a top quality forward, a top quality central mid and a top quality centre back. After that, we should build up on the squad, 2m here, 1m there.

Surviving after a season long relegation battle is not enough no but realistically I don't think we can aim to compete at the top either.

For me, a comfortable mid table finish, just like the season before last, will do just nicely then we can build on from there.

Lets not run before we can walk. Don't forget we're already £20-30m behind Portsmouth who were dead and burried last Easter.

Maybe we should wait and see what happens in the closed season.

I do think Blues need a fundamental change to the way they play if they are to do well next season. More creativity and movement, tactical awareness and less of that overused long ball that normally ends in us giving away possession. Rather than wait for the spaces to appear near the end when the game is streched, lets get out there from the first minute with movement, pace and create openings and chances for ourselves. Players who aren't afraid to run at defenders and players who's movement always gives our team several passing options rather than boot it up and give it away. Don't let the other team dictate our play as much or crowd us out. You see smaller teams go up against the big premiership teams and while they cannot compete on quality, they have the tactics right to stop the better team playing and get a result.

I know nice footy doesn't automatically win you games, but how we play now isn't going to get us very far next season, as good as it did for us in the championship. I don't know if that is something Bruce can bring to the club with his style of play, but something has to change/improve, be in the manager, backroom staff, training, tactics, players, etc. I hope Bruce is the man for the job and can learn from last season, but he has had several seasons to do it already.

Surely it is by far cheaper and proof of good husbandry of our resources, if we forget about 8, 9 or 20 players.

Lets get a young and hungry manager. One with something to prove. Some passion and some new ideas.

No point in spending £15 million to see half of them on the bench because we need to defend, defend, defend.

A young and hungry manager. It makes economic sense. :D
