ime just as dissapointed as the next person about not winning the championship but if you look back over the last five games i think we had the hardest run in ie southampton- home leicester city- away wolves-away sheff wed-home pne-away and we picked up 12points out of 15 do you think sunderland would have won the championship if thay had our run in maybe not so well done bruse and the lads you done us proud feed.back |

If this is true that Bruce only called our players in to training on Thursday i believe that crazy decision has cost us the Championship, Sunderland on the other hand have taken it more seriously, no fancy parades, more than likely training all week. On monday i saw on sky sports news our players at the training ground celebrating and drinking beer, they then went over to sunderland and they were training as if it were any other day....... Fair play to Roy Keane didnt let getting promoted go to his head and saw the bigger picture............ |

Sunderland corresponding fixtures H Vs Southampton 1-1 a vs Leicester won this 2-0 A vs Wolves 1-1 H vs Sheff Wed won 1-0 A vs Preston lost 4-1 8 points sunderland have had hell of a season. I always said to go to Preston and win was going to be a hell of a feat.,,, same for Luton to beat Sunderland it was never going to happen. |

Keane wanted it more than Bruce and it showed, untill we get rid of that "being second is ok nature" from st andys then we will always be also rans. Remember,no one remembers losers or second place, just ask the aussies or yanks when they play sport. Not training till thursday was unproffessional and a joke. |

The target was promotion - completed. What is the "bigger picture" then? |

The bigger picture was there was still one more game to go, that game the difference of finishing first or seccond, Keane realised that and carried on like it was any other week, had training as usuall, Brucies mentality was "i have got promotion so the fans cant knock me", Not training all week is one of the most outregeous decisions i have heard off, ok give the players monday to celebrate and get it out of there system but on Tueseday back in to training, and one last big push for sundays game................ |

the bigger picture is being a winner or a runner up, just like the fans next season who will see beating viler as the highlight of the season, we need to break this mould of settling for second best. |

If you analise the Preston game we had 4 or 5 clear cut chances, most in the second half and i dont think training mon, tue wed would have made the slightest difference, so saying we were unprofessional the last week of the season is IMO unfounded. The players were gutted at the end of the match. Sometimes fixtures work in your favour, sometimes against. We definately had a difficult run in and to get 12 from 15 points we did well. However if the last 5 fixtures had been lower placed teams who knows what would have happened. (barnsley, Burnley, etc) :o :o |

Yes preston had a lot of possesion and put us under presuure - especialy in the first 30 mins. But i honestley can't remmber them having that many guilt edge chances - maybe 1 or 2. We had 4 or 5 (Mcsheff 2, jaidi 1, larrson 1) and a stonewall penalty On another day we could have won 3 or 4 - 1 and everybody would have commented about how clinial we are in front of goal. Disappointed at not winning the championship - yes - however, as said in previous posts - job done - lets move on - whatever happens next season we won't and nobody else will give a frig about sunderland winning the championship. |

After the level of expectency Brucie and the players had to endure from day one it was not surprising they let their hair down last week after promotion was confirmed. Let's see how successful Roy Keane will be next year when he pits his wits against the big boys he is a novice compared to other managers and lets see how good he is when the pressure is really on. He has been very lucky this season because unlike Blues, Sunderlands expectations were not as nearly as high, and Brucie and the players should be applauded for what they have acheived in such a pressure cooker environment. |
