doyle should have saved pizzaro's and maybe essien's

Maybe??

pizzaro's should have been saved.
essien's just needed to be turned away, should have got firmer hands to it. it could have been saved. i wouldn't blame him alot for that one.

Having watched the match from the privileged position of a Redditch pub can I please add my two penneth worth?

Blues were great - losing by one goal to Chelsea was a great achievement!

Goal keeping - Doyle had a mare for the second but one would hope he'll learn

Defence - need to work together more to get there but not too bad

Midfield - Nafti not as good as he has been or could be otherwise not bad

Front two - superb.

Losing is hard but compared to two seasons ago we were superb!

It was great to look at the TV and see that we had a whole first class squad out there today - players who wanted to play and win in the Premiership- what a change!! :Blues:

Nav

PS - Come on you Blues! :D

On Tommy Ross they were talking about the penalty not awarded to McSheffs.

I didn't see that incident, can anyone tell me about it please.

Right, my thoughts.

Straight to Doyley, yes he's made two mistakes today, what goalies dont make mistakes though? It was easily his worst performance for us today, but don't write the guy off. He was amazing last season and helped contribute as much as McSheffrey/Jerome did in getting us up automatically IMO.

Kapo looked class. He had a great first touch, and seems to easily be able to control the ball, and his goal was fantastic.

Nice to see Mikael grab a goal, especially against his old club. Didnt think id ever see him score for Birmingham again earlier this summer when he was nearly at Hannover.

All in all, im pleased, not at the result but at the performance. Nafti done his defensive job, his attacking play was poor though, and wouldnt expect that to be our centre midfield partnership on Wednesday, it could be, but I think Brucie will put Kapo in there and then bring in O'Connor/Jerome to play along Forssell.

Ive watched near enough all of the matches this weekend, and we werent by far any of the worst.

I think the boys played really well today and I am very proud of them. Yes Doyley made some bad mistakes today but doesn't everybody. Hearing some people saying that he should be dropped is a bit OTT if you ask me he should be given a chance. As someone else pointed out we all know how good he can be. As for the others I thought that Kapo's goal was an absolute scorcher and hopefully he can give us a lot more like that. I have to say though that I was a bit disappointed by Nafti cus he kept giving the ball away in the middle of the field.
Now enough of my moaning bring on Sunderland on Wednesday I can't wait for that game and i'll be there ready to raise the roof :Blues:

I also want to make a comment about Nafti.

There were two challenges he put in today that on another day would have received two red cards.

Twice he went in with both feet and studs showing. Yes, he won the ball on both occasions, but it did show a downside to him.

I'm not a fan of Nafti, and I never will be. His passing is poor, his tackling is dodgy, and as an forward thinking player, is negligble.

Also I thought Larsson worked extremely hard, but not once did he attempt to beat a full abck. Not once.

Nafti's challenges raised eyebrows with me, he has to be really careful with those, his distribution is poor and he was giving the ball away too many times.
Larsson looked quite nervous didn't really have a good contribution.

As for the rest:

- Muamba looked comfortable
- Was dissapointed with Quadrue he has got good pedigree but he can't play the way he did today, there is more to him
- Doyle should of saved at least one of the two but again I account for nerves but I would like to see him palming those sort of shots away
- Forssell looked bright with good feet at times, sky questioned why he didn't celebrate, I remember a quote from the Fors and he is very critical of himself and he mentioned he owes a lot to Blues
- Kapo is overlooked Andy Gray forgot his name shows how much he knows, very good play with a comfortable stride when running with ball, looked good on the left.
-Mcsheffrey was very quiet all round
- Djourou needs a few games to gel but a decent defender was uncertain at times when shielding a running ball
-Ridgewell had a decent game, unlucky not to score towards the end, a lot of potential in him.
-Parnaby when he came on did some good defending
-De Ridder needed more time to impose on the game

I do feel good that we gave it a go, 3-0 would be a different spin all together but we scored two goals, I would like us to show a bit more penetration going forward and not be wasteful but it is only the first game and I agree theres more positives than negatives to take out of todays game.

I was pleased with the lads today, Doyle, yes he had a bad game but it was his first in the Prem against one of the best teams in europe, i am not going to judge him on this, see after 5 or so games, he will improve vastly imo.
I thaught Nafti played terrible, his passes were all over the place and his two footed lunges were discracefull, we looked a lot better when he went off imo.
Kapo, quality, his goal may well be goal of the season for us already, some good touches all in all a very good debut.
Mikael Forssell was great aswell when he got the ball, i did have my doubts but today he proved me wrong, he looked sharp and willing to run, showed glimpses and even tried the odd piece of trickery to beat his man.
Liam Ridgewell played really well also, unlucky with that headder in injury time but a very good game for him, let him keep the armband imo...

Agree about him for captain, and I thought he had a good game.

But he wasn't unlucky with that header, it was a free header and he ballsed it up. Be honest.

Nothing in it really. Larsson whipped a ball in from the wide right position, and Johnson looked to have a hold of McSheffrey but really he'd just arrived at the ball earlier and McSheffrey was knocked off balance. Certainly not a penalty.

agree. today on ss1 they always talked about chelsea before the game and only a few words for birmingham. happens all the time. there are 2 teams competing but they make it out as if there is only 1. like we don't exist.

Is that Chelsea 'the champions of England' you're referring to?

I'm just back from the game and thought generally we did well. Lots more plusses than minusses, just sat by a Chelsea supporter on the train and he was well impressed with us
