Jose Mourinho paid tribute to Birmingham City after Chelsea's 3-2 win over the Premiership new boys at Stamford Bridge.

Steve Bruce's side took a shock lead when Mikael Forssel scored against his former club.
Goals from debutants Claudio Pizarro and Florent Malouda gave the Blues the lead before new boy Olivier Kapo made it 2-2 with a sensational strike.

Michael Essien struck at the start of the second-half to give Chelsea victory which sees them set a new record of 64 matches unbeaten at home.

Mourinho admitted his side were outplayed by the visitors.
"I think it was a good game, not just because Chelsea played well but because Birmingham did as well," Mourinho said.
"Teams who have come up from the Championship have a champion mentality.
We had so many chances to kill the game, it would have been more enjoyable for me to see a 4-2 or a 5-3 than a 3-2. It was a good game to celebrate the home record, a game with goals and enthusiasm, and better than a 0-0 where we still have the record but it's not a good game."

The result sees the FA Cup holders overtake Liverpool's home record set from February 1978 to January 1981.

Meanwhile, Bruce praised his side for matching Mourinho's men for much of the game.

"I am disappointed because the goals we gave away were a bit soft but we pushed them hard," Bruce said.
"Not many teams come here and score two goals. We were brave and that's the way we'll have to be.
We showed that we are capable of making a real fist of playing in the Premier League."

To be fair, Mourinho has always had a good word to say about us. He always gives credit where it is due, you cannot deny that.

Fair play to Mourinho, did you see him whisper into Brucie's ear at full time, I wonder what he said?.

There is also a twinge of broken English in that.

Yeah I've always liked this about Mourinho. Most other managers like Ferguson or Wenger would come out and say that their team didn't perform or they were missing players, Mourinho doesn't do this, he praises the other team if he feels necessary.

I'll be honest, i think most managers tell it like it is. It's the media that manipulate words and situations to suit the story board they create. I think Alex, Arsene as well as Jose would say the same thing today as none of them have any particular beef against the club.

To be fair he didn't actually say " Birmingham played like Champions" He said

"Teams who have come up from the Championship have a champion mentality"

I don't think he was referring to us playing like Champions in this particular game today - he was making the point of newly-promoted teams on a high, as it were.

That's how i read his quote, in my opinion.

mourinho has a kind heart towards blues. he has said similar things the last 3 times we played them. but what he says is true. mourinho does manage champions, but at least he is not full of himself like the other big managers. arsene wenger is similar to mourinho, he's not too full of himself.

I dont think you could get two more different managers? Mourinho mouths off about everything all the time. If one of his players gets a red card, its not just his players fault, but the refs and the other players too. If one of Wengers kids gets sent off then its "I didn't see it, I can't possibly comment".

Mourinho = straight talking
Wenger = "can I get these rose tinted glasses as contact lenses?"

The self proclaimed 'special one' not full of himself?

You really do talk some utter nonsense, k-par.
