sporting life:

2105: Birmingham are hoping to sign Celta Vigo midfielder Borja Oubina in a loan deal before the transfer window closes at midnight.

Bruce said: "We are in talks with the player and we are going to try to sign him tonight.

"He is a creative player who has won two caps for Spain. He was very close to going to Benfica for something like 10 million euros.

"But that deal has hit a few snags so we have jumped in to try to get him on loan but it could go right down to the wire."

It's not a big screen or floodlights, someone forgot to take the fax machine down to Wast Hills and they're trying to send his registration by smoke signal...

OUBINA MAKES BLUES SWITCH

Blues have completed the season-long loan signing of Celta Vigo midfielder Borja Oubina Melendez with just minutes to spare before last night's midnight transfer deadline.

The 25-year-old Spanish international will stay at St. Andrew's until 15 May 2008.

Oubina, the name by which he is known, has spent his whole career to-date at Celta, but asked to leave his hometown club following their relegation from Spain's top division last season.

"I'm happy because I'm going to play in such a powerful and attractive league as the English one,'' said the defensive midfielder.

"It's true that I would have liked Celta to transfer me and not go out on loan but the club didn't want that.''

Blues have the option of making the deal permanent at the end of the season.

Oubina will not be eligible to play in today's Barclays Premier League fixture at Middlesbrough.

:applause:

well done brucie

who the f*** is he !!!

:LMAO:

That's what I thought

Oh BTW you don't have to be that 'GOOD' to get capped for Spain

They have never won any international tournament

I'm more than prepared to give this guy a chance and hopefully he'll do the biz for us

Just concerned that why his name has never cropped up before and suddenly some of you lot think he's the new Zidane just because he's signed for us........from a club in Spain that just went down a league it has to be said

Remember when Bruce was after Scott Parker.....then Bowyer .....then Sidwell ......then Gareth Barry.....then Collins John and so on and so on....just in the last few weeks we lose out on Mido,Ghaly,Tuncay and now Luccin

As usual we end up with the 'leftovers'............We're fast becoming a laughing stock in the transfer business..............Look how many British players have changed clubs in the last 2 weeks....Curtis Davies to Viler,Steve Davis to Fulham and Kieron Dyer to Hammers just 3 examples

And Bruce goes on about the lack of British talent......His problem is he doesn't give youth a chance and our Academy kids get passed on.....thus Kilkenny to Oldham,Aluko to Aberdeen and Oji to Leyton Orient following on the heels of Marcus Painter going to Swansea....has anyone stopped to notice our youngsters end up at League 2 sides or average Scottish Prem clubs

Something dreadfully wrong with our own system methinks

Hope Oubina and Palacios turn out to be bargains...I think Kapo looks a steal already
But look at all those other players who have breezed in and out of SA on the gravy train :banghead:

Be warned and don't expect too much........if we are that ambitious we would be after Sean Wright Phillips,Jermaione Defoe and Kevin Nolan.....Yes,Steve,they are all BRITISH

Food for thought

How long ago was it that BCFC made an offer for Parker, Bowyer ??
Collins John decided he did not want to play in the CCC end of story.

I do not remember any bids for Sidwell or Barry unless you have a link to these bids ?

The Mido affair was a strange one, he seemed to conduct his dealings with BCFC through his own website, in fact it was he who 1st alerted the football world of bcfc's interest in him. through his website.
it seems he was happy to come here on loan but when a permanent deal was possible he wanted different clauses allegedly allowing him to leave if another club met a set valuation. Mido apparently wanted to set that valuation? at a figure far less than bcfc were paying for him. make of that what you will but its hardly a sign of commitment or loyalty is it.

the Ghaly incident is well documented and most people have backed Bruce in his stance and actions in sending the guy back to Tottenham.

Tuncay and Luccin decided to go elsewhere it happens, in the same way as Deridder chose to come here over Ajax, Muamba came here in peference to Reading, Djurou came here on loan when he could have gone to Portsmouth.

Laughing stock in the transfer market, somehow i doubt that take a look at Sunderlands outlay £35m on mostly championship players?? are they any better than we have a lot of people are saying they are not.

Curtis Davies £10m i don't think so in fact the vile don't think so hence they have loaned him.

Steven davis was a player SB would have liked at the club i read somewhere but he could not afford the £5m fee.

are you suggesting Dyer would come to bcfc ??

What does that tell you? to me it says that they did not come up to the standard set by bcfc or of other clubs higher up the leagues than those who took them on.

Food for thought indeed but her's another thought. can you see any of those players coming to bcfc ? other more established clubs have tried to secure them for vast amounts of money and failed. why is that ?
