A Chairman Should Be Seen And Not Heard

Been out of the country for a while as now living in Spain but I have deep concerns about our current owners and potential future one.

I get sent snippets of the Evening mail from my ever reliable obliging cousin and have Sky Sports News.

Why do we seem to have two of the loudest mouth owners in football. If there not promising us major money will be spent and how we're going to sign big name players then there having a go at supporters not going to the games.

It seems that DG has taken a back seat as far as spouting your mouth off goes and left it to DS this season.

Well I have a message for them both. Actions speak louder than words.

The last time we were in the prem after a season of being up I can remeber them saying we were going to be the biggest club in the Midlands and falling for it. I went around saying to Wolves, Albion, viler fans how we were going to be this and that and spend this and that. Based on what. A couple of wins against the viler?

You never see the big or successful clubs chairmen in the press or on the tele being interviewed. Look at Liverpool, Man Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea. You ever hear a peep from them? No they just run the clubs, give the manager the funds they need and don't get involved in propeganda and false promises or critising the hand that feeds them the fans.

Even down the road. Have you ever seen Randy Lerner interviewed? In the press or on tele. No he takes a back seat. He has been owner for over a year and still not a peep from him. They seem a happy bunch over there though and to be in unity and quietely getting on with things.

Now we have talk of Carson Yeung. From what I have seen he is another media whore holding press conferences promising this and that. Why? What is his motivation to want to be in front of the cameras waffling on about hoping to bring in a load of Chinese players. Hardly what Steve Bruce wanted to hear was it. Then hes going on about seeing us compette in Europe. Don't tell us show us. We've had enough false promises over the last 5 years.

I really fear we may never become an established premiership club under the current or future owners. One way of helping to become that though would be if the owners would shut up and let there actions do the taliking.

Rant over.

If Yeung had avoided the press - what do you think would have happened?

Tattum and Willie would have had a field day about how suspiscious he was, avoiding the press and all. :D

What exactly has he "promised" jemmab ?
Players? - No
Money? - No.
New Ground ? - No.
£10 million signing ? - No.

What has he said he would like to see ?
Asian marketing? - yes
Introduction of chinese/asian players? -Yes
European football in the future? - Yes.

Wheres your problem with Yeung, jemmab? :D

I expect to see a new article soon, from tatts, posted by Willie, asking:
"Why hasn't Yeung Promised anything?"
or - horrors, even worse:
"Yeung in Disgrace !! - He has no Rip-Off-The-Fans-Schemes"

:D

I think that this post by jemmab is one of the best posts I have read here in a while.

Not sure about Yeung yet, haven't completely made up my mind over him. But your main point about the current board is spot on in my opinion. I don't know why David Sullivan needs to continually put himself out to the media. It does sometimes become a bit to much of a circus.

This is made worse by the fact that it does not help anything and can only cause more problems. I would personally like David Sullivan to sit down, shut up and get on with his job... BEHIND the scenes.

The original post is in the right direction, imo, but shows just how cynical and distrustful we have become over the years.

Not many other clubs' fans would think not once, not twice but three or more times, whenever their chairman said anything?

We at blues are unique I think in that the vast majority of fans have been dipped, soaked and waterlogged by DS over the last 13 years or so. And we don't accept anything he says at face value anymore.
We question it, look for the spin and the angles - if its good, we believe it, until it doesn't materialise. :D

There are a sizeable body of people, probably the newer or younger fans, who believe everything our board say. Just as they believe their teachers or parents. In time, imo, they will become as cynical as the rest of us about DS and his regime.

And theres the rub, as they say.

We may be the most spinned at, misled and conned group of fans in the country - so we are very - VERY - cautious about anyone promising anything.

I wouldn't like to see Yeung being tarred by the same brush as DS, so I am trying to keep an open mind.

So far, Yeung has not promised and failed, promised and made excuses or promised - basically.

Lets keep DS and Yeung on separate planets for the time being. :D

I feel the reverse is true. There's been no word from the board at all over the last week. Where is David Gold when you need him?

Wasn't all the talk about Steve's new contract enough to keep you going ?
They don't want a public discussion about this week's big issue ( the pen to paper bit) do they ?
:D
