Last season, the early part - like now - we were all a bit miffed and upset.
Then we went on a pretty good run upto Christmas.

We faltered a bit, but then hung on to our position to get our rewards.

What happened, in the dark early part of the season? As our manager explained at the end of the season, he was stumped, had run out of ideas, seriously thought of his future. At the time David Gold insisted our manager would not be sacked. David Sullivan it transpired later, was not so convinced.

How did that "run" come about? The run that took the pressure off our manager, saved his job even?

Well, Eric Black was "given his head" to quote Bruce. He was put in the driving seat. Eric Black produced the goods that saved Steve Bruce.

When Bowen was away with Wales, coaching, we were un-inspired and insipid before and after the International breaks. No wonder our manager wanted Bowen's International release curtailed.

My suggestion is that its Black Time again.
No need for sacking or flagellation.

Just "give Eric his head again." :D

sorry i disagree, i think Black is part of the current problem and don't think it'd work. Sb has come from Fergy who will not be bossed and i can't see him liking it.

personally i'd rather see another manager in charge all together and change the whole backroom staff, the lot.

He put up with it last year.
Black gave him that run, then he took over again and we plateau-ed out :D

He put up with it then surely, so why not now?

Unless of course,theres another reason.
He gets paid off for two years at the moment, as soon as he signs his new contract he only gets one year's pay-off.

we have signed some talented players and put them in the hands of a manager who by his own admission is tactically inept....( i believe he can motivate) and a coach that coaches the coaches.Im guessing training is the main responsibilty for Mr Black and the fitness is left to the Fitness coach...well for me the players (and i hesitate to use the word team) do not look motivated and they appear either tactically confused or totally lost as to how we are meant to play now that could be just down to

1...we were tired (v west ham)
2...we were 20% off the pace (v boro)

so the fitness coach doesnt appear to be cutting it either.......

too many excuses for me,and if i hear the words team spirit is excellent again i will :banghead:

they should be kicking each other at the moment because things are seriously going wrong "no"

The radio commentary on the Middlesboro match said that we were late out on the pitch for the second half - and when we came out in dribs and drabs we were all looking down and dispirited. I'm not sure if that is relevant to this thread but I remember reading some other thread a couple of weeks ago about us coming out looking dis interested and not up for anything.

Unless its like they worked at Wales.
As a unit, Bowen organised the set-plays and researched the opposition.
Hughes did the motivating and made the final decisions.
Many times at the millennium, Hughes spent most of the match in the stands and Bowen would make the substitutions from the bench.Whether they had communications or not I don't know, but I've often heard the welsh commentators saying "Bowen is ready to change the approach play, he's bringing on...etc"

Whatever his personal ambition, whether we admire him and Savage and Dunn or not, they are in Europe and we are where we always are it seems.
Why is that ?

bowen went behind sb's back to the board asking for more money and more influence on the team. he is a traitorous git who pushed sb into a corner, and joined the welshburn revolution...

he got what he deserved at blues, ie nothing... ;)

With respect Proccy, SB didn't pay Bowen's wages. Bowen did what we would all do - if the supervisor doesn't satisfy our request, we approach the boss.

also with respect, you go through your "line manager" which, in bowen's case, was sb....it's called protocol and common courtesy. if he'd done that i don't suppose sb would have minded so much, but he apparently waited until sb was on holiday having already had one request refused...sneaky, snidey and horrible tactics...
maybe you approve of that type of behaviour?

Wrong. Black was given his head that pre-season. Bruce's decision to go back to basics in October ie stop playing nice, open football and have two solid banks of four, bring back reliable players like Clem, got us up. Black is a top coach by all accounts but I keep saying this, it's down to players. In the PL, the teams with the best players and who are prepared to spend what it takes to get them win more than they lose. I've been told it was Gold who wanted to sack Bruce but not Sullivan

Certainly not, if it was really as you say. By whom was the request turned down? How can you be so sure of the actual circumstances when we've only heard one side of the story?

You are always quick to defend against criticism of anything and everything pertaining to the club but quite willing to crucify Bowen, a great servant of this club for many years, on hearsay.

Board out. Bruce out.
Let's progress!

Good to see all that time on student demo marches wasn't wasted...... :ph43r:

i believe the request (to ds) was referred by him back to sb, rightfully so imo

i am quick (too quick?) to defend the club i suppose, but what bowen did was reprehensible by any decent standards, and he knew exactly what he was doing.

how many years was he a "great" servant exactly?

I'm sure Bowen decided he wanted to leave when Bruce said that he would have to stop being assistant manager of Wales and concentrate on the job at Blues.

Bruce wanted full committment to the club, as any good manager would, but Bowen didn't give that. When Mark Hughes became manager of Blackburn he upped sticks and left, and I'm sure he enginerred the Savage departure as well.

Would I want him back? A most definite 'No!'

Anything other than a win against Bolton and I'll be happy to see the current manager and staff stood down.

The two games after that can be written off, then the season starts.

Agreed, Bruce came out and said he allowed Black to have more influence on the team and it showed.

Not sure how much input hes having now, but Bruce was the one who acknowledged Blacks contribution. ..and the results spoke for themselves.

Write off the Liverpool and Man United games? Why? If I thought the team was going to lie down for those matches, I wouldn't bother going!
