i think the problem with are recent form stems from the midfield, i think muamba done well in the championship , but what ive seen so far is yes he can tackle but in the premiership you need more than this. he is not the greatest passer by a long mile, he cannot shoot for toffee, and he doesnt have the vision, but everyone heaps praise just cause he runs about, just a thought, he has the raw athleticism to become a good player but at the moment he's no were near premiship quality, you only had to look at how good the middlesborugh midfield looked campared to ours and they are an average team in the prem, hope oubina is a lot better

I think the problem stems from we need some one along side him who can add what is missing from the centre midfield.
Someone who has this creative spark, make that defensive spliting pass, or that pass that will get us out of trouble, Have we found that in oubina?? who knows but i think that Muamba has to be there for his strength and his ability to tackle,

We could always sell him to Birchfield Harriers and spend the money on a footballer.

IMO He's out most talented Central Midfielder, captain of the under 19's and just called up for the under 21's, maywell be an England regular in the future. I think people tend to forget how young ands inexperienced he is, because of his size and presence. And that's precisly what I think lets him down, his inexperience, 1 too many rash callenges sometimes (although when his tackles do come off, they aren't half good). I have actually noticed how often he gets himself into good attacking positions, but his shooting skills are God awful, if he sorts out his shooting we maywell have a super player on ourhands. I have great hopes for this lad.

KRO :)

He's only a kid and he's been thrown in at the deep end. It was always going to be a big ask for him to come in and perform in the Premiership straight away, look at how Moyes treated Rooney at Everton when he was still young and developing. He missed as many games as he played back then, and he's light years ahead of Muamba in terms of natural ability.

Hopefully with Borja, Palacios and the return from injury of Johnson it will take a bit off the pressure off Muamba and give him a few more breaks.

Last year it was DJ. Before that we had Pennant and Heskey.
Some people blamed Forsell and Pandiani, whilst others found a scapegoat in Dunn and Izzett.

I notice that Kapo suddenly has his critics.

These are all good players, as we have all seen.

Could the problem be in where and how they are instructed to play ?

Yes he did, but with Johnson injured and Ghaly being a muppet that plan had to be scrapped.

i dont think you can use the Boro game as a yardstick the whole team were cr@p. Yes the kid is still raw and as someone else just said SB options in mid field have suffered through injury`s. But having said that i dont think this area is our real problem we are letting to many goals in at the mo and this really needs addressing soon. I say lets get all the new players fit and playing and that will lift alot of the burden of poor mawamba; he aint the problem lol.

This is why it makes sense have 2 central midfielders, one to do the attacking part (through balls, shots etc.) and one to tackle and run around like a lunatic :D (muamba or nafti)

Im sure will Bruce will realise this soon.... < <

Not really, SB could play Kapo in the centre along with Nafti and give the lad a chance to adjust to the prem, he's done alright IMO, his passing has been she hite since he has been here, its the part of his game that needs most attention.

Agree with the original poster. Muamba imo is not ready for the premiership yet.

Not saying he is a bad player and I believe he has great potential. BUT, his passing is very poor and we just cannot afford that right now. Having a central midfielder in the prem that is a very bad passer is a bit suicidal.

Not slagging the guy off, its just too much for him at the moment.

Got to agree with that, I think he needs to be training with better midfields whilst on the breaks, hope the ned lads have got some quality

Completely agree. You need a partnership, and Muamba is one part of that. The other part needs to be able to work together nad IMO, be a ball player, not an out and out defensive player, like Nafti has been doing.

One defensive battler, one creative player, thats a partnership.

so in answer to the original post. It all depends on whether you'd pick Nafti or Muamba to fill a role.

personally i'd rather see Muamba in our midfield than Nafti; having said that i agree with some of the comments that say he needs to be eased into the Prem - he's still os young and full of talent and abilty but he still has lots to learn, certainly with regard to his distribution.

i think DJ coming back will be good for the team, despite what some might think, because of his Premiership experience. now hopefully one of the new midfielders will fit in nicely too and provide us a more creative option.

also agree with vivienne04 - we always look for someone new to blame when i think a different manager with the same players would work wonders!

Every succesful side needs a Muamba, a hard working ball winner in the middle of the park who gives it simple to a more attack minded partner.

For example -

Liverpool have Mascherano who gives it to Gerrard
Arsenal have Gilberto who gives it to Fabregas
Chelsea have Makelele who gives it to Lampard

They are just a few quick examples off the top of my head, but watching Arsenal week in week out as I do, I see that Gilberto cannot pass for ****, if he tries to pass more than 5 yards he gives it away everytime. That's why he makes a 2 yard pass to Fabregas and we go from there. Yet, like Muamba, Gilberto performs one of the most vital roles in the team - he does the ugly work which gets us the ball in the first place.

Young Fabrice will be a super player I am sure.

So you rightly object to certain players being made scapegoats and I agree with you 100%.

But you don't have a problem jumping on the bandwagon and blaming Brucie for all our ills. Could it not just be a case of with all the upheaval the team has had since relegation players need time to get to know each other.

Telling players what their roles are is one thing,
getting them to play as part of a team takes a lot more time!!

I'm not writting Muamba off but the venga boy and Fergie don't let good players go. If somebody can compile a list of young player s that either of them have let go and they've come back to do well in the prem then I'd like to see it. They are very shrewd managers who know a player when they see one.

Right then, here's the list:

I think that once DJ comes back Muamba should be given a break for a few games... he was excellent against Chelsea but as the other posters have said he is still a kid and learning the game.. he needs someone along side him with prem or international experience.. even though he has be alongside Nafti Dj would be the better option..

I know people dont rate him but IMO he does a quality job for us.. 100% in his tackles and he runs none stop... thats why probably half the teams in the prem would snap him up if he was on the market... he does the same role as Makelele at Chelsea.. breaks up play, gets stuck in and then passes it.. cant understand why he gets so much stick.. if we had had 11 DJ's that season we would not have gone down.. well that IMO anyway...

He is going to be our best player in years to come and i think the reason Wenger let him go is he knew that even though he was good he has stronger midfield players at the moment like Fabregas, Gilberto, Flamini, Hleb, Denilison etc..

Once they gel together things will be fine... think the problem is going to be that Bruce does not know his best midfield.. tomatoes

Wenger and Ferguson sometimes dont have a choice when players want to go or they wont break into the team... sometimes players just need a change of scene...

I am sure Wenger would have liked to have kept Reyes if given the chance and he did also as the other poster said let Sidwell, Pennant, Upson go.. and we have also managed to get Larsson from him and he is going to be a good player for us same as Muamba...

Ferguson has made mistakes with the players he has let go like Beckham and Ruud Van and the players he has lost like Phil Neville and Smith... how much would he give to have Ruud back now!!!

Wenger let Upson, Bentley and Stuart Taylor go.
Ferguson let Rossi, Smith, Stam, Luke Chadwick and Danny Higgingbotham all go.
