Birmingham boss Steve Bruce is hoping for a cash windfall, should Carson Yeung's proposed takeover of the club be completed.

While the majority of Premier League clubs have been lavish in their spending this summer, Bruce has spent only a net £7million in pre-season.

Bruce has been forced to work the market astutely to bring in a dozen new faces but he concedes he would love a healthy budget in the January transfer window.

And his wish could well be granted, just as soon as Yeung completes a takeover at St Andrews.

Wheel and deal

"It's been difficult so you have to wheel and deal and do a bit. I've been delighted with what we've done," said Bruce.

"Johan Djourou, for instance, where could we buy him? To get him on loan from Arsenal is a real bonus for us.

"To be fair to the club owners, when they have to go into their pockets, they do so. They give everything the club generates towards my budget.

"When the new guy (Yeung) comes in, I look at all the other investors that have come into the Premier League, at Portsmouth, Manchester City, West Ham, everywhere you look, and what they have spent.

"We obviously hope that is going to be the case here as well. It will be a fantastic scenario if that happens."

A funny thing this, the club use our profits to fund our transfers. Brucie says.

And yet some people are expecting, or asking why, Yeung hasn't used his own cash to fund our transfers. Seems a slight double standard here, all this baiting of Yeung, expecting him to do what our owners have never done.

Did you know that between 2001 - 2006, Blues had the 12th highest turnover in English football.(Vile were 10th if I remember correctly). You can see the potential at blues, and you can see how it could have been so different.

Roll on Yeung. Things can only get better :D

Again, to previously repeat myself, if we're getting £50m from sky, sponsorships, gate receipts etc, why only spend £7m? Where does the rest go? I'm a shareholder as well but i'm **?* if i know!!!

This is the problem when people in the media who should know better throw around figures of £50m

My understanding is that each Club receives about £35m (Still a lot of money btw) the rest is made up of TV appearances and merit money based on final league position.

So I would hazzard a guess that we've received about £35m initially. Trouble is every other Club in the Premiership will have received the same amount.

The trouble isn't that every club has received that amount. The trouble is that many of the others have actually spent it.

I accept that spending money doesn't guarantee success, but it does increase your chances. I was never expecing the Blues to 'do a Leeds'. If they had spent their £35m windfall on transfers and had still been relegated, we would still be better off next season because of both parachute payments and the chance to cash in £35m worth of players.

But I think that our Board simply dont like spending money. They are always after the bargain buy, the free agent, the loanee. Now they have unearthed some gems in the past with this policy, but I dont think it will be successful at this level this time around simply because other clubs have spent comparitively big money.

Football club finances are more complex than many make out or realise. Its not just a matter of getting 35 or 50 ml and therefore we have that money to spend on players. There are other considerations, like ST sales (very low at 13,000 ish), players wages, and any number of other overheads. So lets not get hung up on ' we have 50 mil so we should be buying players worth 50 mil', cos it doesnt work like that.

12 clubs spent more than £20m, only 3 (i think) exceeded the income they will get from prem/sky ie £35m... ;)
