I take it he's fit.

Can I assume he's just not in the squad because he's not impressing? Or just because Larsson's on form?

I agree with the sentiments about De Ridder, I still have high expectations of him and I really don't know what's going on with him but Larsson is in good form but I think De Ridder should at least get in the 16 and be able to run at tired legs late in a game.

As I said on the thread about our midfield, I think De Ridder picked up another knock. I've watched him on several occasions now, including the match against Halesowen and I feel he hasn't been fully match fit all season. Larsson has also played well enough to keep De Ridder out.

I have great hopes for De Ridder having watched him play for the Dutch under 21s when he was one of the best players, but I think this season he may have to be content with a place on the bench even when he is fit.

Tbh, i think atm he has no place in the midfield unless he improves. We (blues) just need an establised prem striker to get us 15-20 goals.

Did you ever hear that De Ridder is a attacking midfielder with a hell of a lot of assists?

Assists are essential for more goals ... **thumbup

But they'd be no good if nobody can finish them ;)

Start with De Ridder on the right or left wing.
And Larsson in central midfield.

And two strikers in front: O'Connor and Jerome ...

Yup, the key thing is to play with 2 upfront. Even 3. Leaving Jerome upront on his own, means few goals and a sure easy way to get relegated.

And Larsson in central midfield.

so what you're saying is the answer lies with moving one of our best players out of the position where he has proved fairly successful this season and put him somewhere else so accommodate a player who might or might not prove his worth!

that's for training not the first team!

personally if any player was to make way for DDR it would have to be McSheffrey, if only because he has found it tough to adjust to the Prem. that said his dead ball delivery is good and he has picked up in the last game or 2.

at the mo, imo and it seems tha manager's, DDR is better off in reserves where he can improve both his fitness and his pace!

De Ridder: Our luck will change

Posted Image

Daniel de Ridder today declared his faith that Blues would come good in Saturday's important game at home to Wigan Athletic.

The Dutchman insisted there was enough talent in the side to record Blues' first win in five games against opponents who, like Steve Bruce's men, are desperate to claw themselves away from the lower end of the Premier League.

"It absolutely is frustrating at the moment," said de Ridder, who sparkled after being introduced as a 56th-minute substitute at Manchester City. "We were unlucky at Manchester. The foul on Fabrice Muamba was not given, so that was not honest.

"But we cannot cry about these kind of things. That's football.

"I think we did show we are good enough to compete with these kind of teams. We had occasions when we were able to score and that's positive. The fact that we left without any points is not.

"I do think it will change. Our luck will turn. Wigan is our next game and we should concentrate on that, concentrate on the good aspects of our game from Manchester and recent weeks and take them into Saturday."

De Ridder reproduced the kind of wing play at Manchester that made him the star of his country's summer Under-21 European Championship triumph and so landed an offer from Blues.

The Bosman free transfer from Celta Vigo has not really got his Blues career up and running mainly due to joining halfway through pre-season and then sustaining an ankle injury at Chelsea on the opening day, followed by more niggles.

He has yet to start in the league and, indeed, has yet to set foot on St Andrew's turf in any competition.

But he could be pushing for more involvement against Wigan, even though Sebastian Larsson should have recovered from sickness.

He added: "I can't be not satisfied because I played and I contributed some good crosses, I was a threat I think. But you can never be fully satisfied when you lose. I am happy I played, of course, but I want us to win."

Blues boss Bruce could opt for a more conventional 4-4-2, but de Ridder said it wasn't about whether this formation was better than that.

"I thought the first-half wasn't so bad," he said. "We competed and were strong enough to keep them from scoring with a normal attack.

"We have some good substitutes who can also force something. So it is a positive thing that we have more players than just the 11 who start to make something happen."

He continued: "At Blackburn, we weren't really 'on' for 90 minutes as we could have been.

"Against Manchester we were much better. As the gaffer says, you have to lose with your boots on, and that's better than losing in another way.

"After Manchester, it wasn't as if we looked at ourselves in the mirror and said 'we didn't do anything'. We know that, as a team, we have to work hard first of all, whoever plays where."

De Ridder, who has made only two brief substitute appearances for Blues in the Premier League, said the supporters could help on Saturday.

Prices have been reduced, as they were for another vital game against Bolton Wanderers - 28,124 turned up and roared Blues to victory.

"We need to win and the next game's at home, and I think it's very important that we are going to get a big crowd", said de Ridder. "I have not seen fans like these a lot in my life. I am delighted that we have their support and that's a positive thing for us.

Fit-again De Ridder in running for a recall

Oct 26 2007

DANIEL DE RIDDER could be recalled by Blues for tomorrow's clash with Wigan at St Andrew's.

The Holland Under-21 star impressed last week when he came on as a substitute at Manchester City for Gary McSheffrey. And with Seb Larsson also fit again after being missing last weekend through illness, then McSheffrey could be the man fighting to keep his place at St Andrew's.

Bruce was giving nothing away about his final selection but conceded that de Ridder had staked his claim to a place in the starting line-up.

The midfielder has only been involved in three games this season since his summer move from Celta Vigo.
"He was injured against Chelsea and went over on his ankle and it's only over the last 10 days that I've detected that he's 100 per cent fit again," said the Blues boss.

"He came on against Manchester City and gave us a new dimension. He's certainly right up there in my thoughts that's for sure. I can't play them all though."

Bruce also admitted that McSheffrey needs to turn his fortunes around for Blues but maintained his support for the man he signed last year from Coventry. McSheffrey has been struggling for form and Bruce knows the importance of beating Wigan with his best possible team. "Gary's done so well for me as a player and I'm always wondering if he can get that one goal he needs to turn things round for him," explained Bruce.

"It's a decision which I will have to look at. But now there's competition again, de Ridder's knocking on the door and Mikael Forssell is fit again.

"Last week you could see why I bought de Ridder, he's something different. He's quick and lively. And Larsson also comes into the equation but it might still be a bit early for Forssell.

"But I'm still debating whether to go two up front for the Wigan match."
Former Blues striker Emile Heskey looks set to miss the game with a long-term foot injury but another ex-Birmingham player, Mario Melchiot, is fit although he may not get a warm welcome from St Andrew's fans. (BM)

Friend at the game said he was the best player on the park. He, Kapo and Larsson could be our ticket to stay in this division.
