Lets scour the leagues across the world and find a striker who would be capable of stepping up to this level. A few suggestions have been made (and ridiculed by others) however we have no better vehicle than the internet than to start searching and making realistic suggestions.

Forget Crouch, Owen, Defoe and the like - we know they are not going to come here. But there has to be a bargain out there somewhere.

I'll start with Eddie Johnson in the MLS. 15 goals in 24 starts this season. Strong, quick, can hit the ball and can cooly finish.

£3-£4m perhaps?

Don't have a striker to recommend but would like to throw D'Alessandro and Nicolae Dica's names into the hat.

I'll buy a copy of Football Manager 2008 as soon as its out and quickly be able to reveal the name of a striker from the Ugandan third division with an unpronounceable name that will make me look really knowledgeable about football.

Whats the point?

Unless Bruce gets really desperate and comes on the forums to look for possible signings, all our scouting will be pointless :(

Based on that theory so are many of the debates/discussions on here as well then!

Looks like Anelka might be out of the door at Bolton in january although Erikson has already shown an interest for a return to Man city. I'm not a big fan of him but he is a proven striker. However i doubt if he would choose us over Man city.

I would be tempted to send a scout on a tour of the new EU memeber states, such as Latvia, Lithuania Estonia, Bulgaria, Hungary etc... I bet there is a great little player waiting to be discovered and no hassle with work permits

Roberto Soldado from Madrid.

Rarely gets a game these days and would come within the Brucemeisters theoretical budget of 11 million.

Whatever happened to Portillo at Real Madrid? I remember him scoring a load a few years back and being the next big thing, but haven't heard much since.

I saw him a few times before Capello took over at Madrid... just when Soldado got promoted from their "b" team. Thought he did ok. Didn't he go out on loan last season? Would suggest that he's not really wanted there and I was impressed with him before. Only problem is he's still quite young and inexperienced, and didn't really seem strong enough for the Premier League. Maybe he's improved since then? But he did seem kind of light weight. Still, I wouldn't begrudge a player of his ability the chance to prove himself in England with us ;)
