Discuss.

Bruce's

Top 5 achievments at birmingham city:

1.promotion to the primership for the first time in Blues history

2.Getting the double over villa in the first season

3.Nearly finishing in the top 6 the season after

4.The signing of Chistophe Dugarry

5.promotion again last season.

Worst mistakes:

1.Relegation to the championship

2.The selling of Andrew Johnson

3.The signing's of very poor strikers to St.Andrews

4.Loosing at home to liverpool 7-0

5.Not winning any silverwear as such so far.

This is not a Bruce out thread, just interesting to asess achievments and failures !
Just a bit of fun.

I wouldn't say that winning no silverware was a mistake. You can only name 5 Sides: The Big 4 + Boro who have won domestic silverware since Bruce took charge.

I know but at the end of the day every team from the lower divisions up is in a competition to win it. Even if your a 'smaller team like blues' to not win it is technically a failure.

Ok we might not have been expected to win it (fa cup, carling cup) but still no decent cup runs with this manager. Not one semi-final or final appreance even when you see the likes of Millwall and Watford have been there.
The one against Sunderland a few years back was the best.

I disagree, other than an extra bit of info on a peice of apaper what does it really change? nothing. Was Promotion not enough? All it gave us was a little bit of straw for Bruce outers to clutch onto.

Not that I'm accusing you of anything. :ph43r:

That's a good point like.. but I wouldn't put the same 'failiure' as another 200 odd Football league Managers over the last 6 years in his top 5.

not knocking loikes, but who saw aj down blues and thought he'd ever be a top goalscorer? anybody who says yes is either deluded, a liar, or in the wrong job - you should be out scouting....

also not knocking but, apart from 1 season at palarse, what has aj done that has been so spectacualr anyway? i honestly still think he's fairly average and now defences have sussed his runs out he hardly scores ...i do wish him well though, and if we could get him back it'd be nice to have a brummie in the team/on the bench...

Would beating newcastle 5-0 at St. James park be somewhere up there close to top five acheivements?

Could we get some prespective put into this

Birmingham City 132 years old
Premier League 15 years old

The league did exist before the premier league tag was firmly attached to it.

5 best attributes
1. Taken over Blues and stayed the course ~ against most peoples predictions, inc Simon Jordans.
2. Put together theree different and reasonbly successful sides in six year, including attracting some players who, without SB's influence, would not have come here ~ oh what he could do if he had a stable situation
3. Gained promotion to the Premiership twice in four seasons.
4. Helped to establish a far better youth policy at the club started by TF with the current boards support from nothing when the board took over
5. Being the tough Geordie that I always thought was needed at BCFC if we are ever to significantly change the little niche that BCFC have carved out for themselves over the decades.

5 worst attributes
1. Failed to stand up to the board in doing things as he wanted in the first place ~ he now seems to be on his own track
2. As a result of the first ~ buying old dogs with injury potential and motivational weaknesses.
3. Not being as articluate as needed in the Premiership, with all of it's media attention.
4. Being too loyal to some players who did not deserve it.
5. Weakness in attacking strategy.

Todays listing, I might change my mind a bit over time.

1.Promotion to the First Division.
2.Good derby record
3. Promotion at first attempt last year
4. Attracting some good players to the club
5. Getting Blues into the top six for a while a few seasons back

1. Relegation
2. Seemingly hopless tactician who only has one plan.
3. Turning those good players into hopless causes.
4. 7-0 defeat in a quarter final and countless other turgid inexcusable displays
5. As Wisel pointed out, his inability in front of the media is always embarassing imo.

well if we're all going to ignore Jan's request then i might as well take part in the debate!

Best 5 attributes:

1) has spent money wisely this season - had little to spend but what he's done with that is pretty remarkable
2) Damien Johnson; whatever people's thoughts on this player to buy him at the price we did and for him to be the servant to the club he has is pretty amazing! i'm an admirer of DJ's even if many aren't.
3) Christophe Dugarry; to see a player of his calibre at the Blues was amazing, he bought something to this club the likes we haven't seen for many years - before or since! great player and even though he was only here for a short time in the twilight of his career it was a joy to behold - great piece of work
4) the first season double against the Vile - it was a long time to wait but well worth it
5) his success at getting us from the Championship to the Premiership

Wirst 5 attributes:

1) excuses; he's becomming famed for them. their's always a new one each season. this time round he's blaming the naivity of players - yet he assembled such a young squad
2) being Mr Untouchable/failure to walk; he should have been sacked at least twice, if not 3 times to date yet has got away with appalling mistakes and performances - none of us would get away with the same in the work-place. he once said if he lost the fans he'd walk - he lost the fans at one point and stayed!
3) negative game-plan/tactics
4) not getting the best out of players; upon promotion the first time if spomeone had said we'd have had Robbie Savage, David Dunn, Emile Heskey, Matt Upson, Jermaine Pennant and the likes then we'd have laughed them out of town. but to have these players and still not provide a team with passion, flair and commitment is a poor show
5) relegation; i will never forgive him or the club for that.

i would like to add that i think another good attribute to SB is his commitment and loyalty. when he came here he had a reputation of lasting 6mths in a job before moving on. since arriving he's turned down Newcastle (his club) and has only recently come out and said he's like to speak to Bolton, whilst being unsure of his position. so fair play to him - whilst at times i wish he'd have gone credit is due for him staying to continue the work he's started.

What's with everyone saying 'a good derby record'? Lost our last two matches against the Villa.

Didnt lose any of 12 in the championship last year, only lost 2 of 8 to villa in the prem. Cant remember the baggies results. Remember horsefilelds last minute winnner at stans in the first prem season.
So ye thats a pretty good derby record.

Without doubt, the worse thing he ever did was to sign 'Heskey' and change the style of play from football along the ground, with the likes of Dunn Forssell and Dugarry, to................"Get it onto Heskeys head" :applause:
