It's not that though is it. Wolves or Stoke.. they're not massive games for us are they. Whereas Liverpool look forward to Utd even more than Everton. We don't have that with these clubs do we. Regardless of whether we're in their league or not, it's nothing to do with if they're in the Prem or not. Yes, they're Derbies by hardly rivalries. |

Wolves are sort of.. but when last year's fixtures came out was it the first game you looked for? I don't get excited about Wolves more than any other team.. but that's just me. |

I think it comes down to the fact that there is usually more at stake for games such as Arsenal Man utd year after year in this fixture, even tho geographically they are not local rivals, for blues villa its usually just local pride, and the match in the grand scheme of the premiership year wont have a massive effect on the outcome... in that respect maybe their right |

Wrong. They couldn't give a toss about Boro, but Boro would like to think they matter to them. Truth is, they don't. Phil Thompson talks out of his backside. The only reason Liverpool and Man United have such a rivalry is the jealousy factor. |

Maybe I phrased it wrong. Boro see it as a derby.. even if the others don't. Whereas neither us or Wolves think we're a rivalry. |

I'd say that Villa have one other big(ish) rival in Coventry. While over the last 5 years they may not be the force they were, historically Cov were a big rival. Obviously it is more about how much the Cov fans hate Villa but when we were in the doldrums for all those years that was their derby game. Boots on the other foot now and every forget about Cov but you have to say one thing about their fans, they really do hate Villa almost as much as us. I've been to a couple of random Cov games (not with blues) and sat with the home supporters, always pleasing to join in a rendition of "SOTV". There's obviously a bit of rivalry with Cov and Blues as well but it's more of a friendly, hope you get one over the Villa rivalry. |

Only messing carrot, didn't mean anything by it. I grant you, Blues v AV is by far the biggest rivalry. But I would still consider Wolves and the Baggies rivals too. Back in the 70's we also had Derby, Stoke, Leicester, Forest (even though they always did us)....not on the same scale obviously but still a rivalry. |

Fair play, lol. But that's what I'm saying.. we have a huge rivalry with the Viler, yes we can have a rivalry with the like sof Wolves or Stoke.. but The Viler game is a million miles off that standard. Whereas with the Merseyside, they have rivalries that are just as big. |

Agreed. But Scousers and Mancs really don't like each other full stop. Plus they've probably been the two biggest / most successful sides in this country for the best part of 40 years, each one thinking they're bigger than the other. |

Agree Blues v Villa will always be the BIGGER derby in the West Midlands.....well obviously in Brum anyway because West Brom and Wolves will also argue that their own fixture is the biggest The East Midland clubs are Derby County,Notts Forest and Leicester City and they all hate each other passionately .....didn't include Notts County,Mansfield or Chesterfield because they have spent most of the last 20 years in the bottom 2 tiers Coventry and Leicester also have an unsavoury reputation for hatred of one another I agree historically from the end of World War Two right up to the 80's games like Blues v Baggies and Blues v Wolves were always BIG games for us and in fact the Aston Villa v WBA game is sometimes referred to as the OTHER Birmingham derby...The Baggies love to get one over the Vile as much as we do It would be nice to if we could re-kindle some of the old atmosphre whenever we play the other West Midlands clubs......On a more positive note at least we don't have to look forward to WALSALL anymore as the closest derby fixture No disrespect to Walsall but I'm sure you know what I mean Did you know the FA Cup semi finals 50 years ago consisted of these 2 games......Aston Villa v West Brom.........Birmingham City v Manchester United............yes,we were that CLOSE to an 'All Brum FA Cup Final'......sadly we went out to Man United at Hillsborough who were about to retain the League championship at the time Villa disposed of the Baggies at Molineux and against all odds went on to lift the trophy....the last time they did actually (1957) :silence: I just wonder what the odds are of that happening again..........This season maybe ?? Well if we can improve our League position and with the Albion flying high in the CCC I guess it's not impossible .........We can but dream,eh ??? **thumbup |
