Jerome - Is He Really Up To The Job?

Much as I like the lad and recognise his pace, strength and commitment, I don't think he has a good enough first touch for the Premiership. I also think he is poor in the air against good central defenders - I can hardly remember him winning a 50:50 ball when it's hoofed up to him - he makes Heskey look top class!

I'm sure he'd do better if he wasn't a lone striker - Bruce is making the same mistake as he did two seasons ago with Heskey. However unless Jerome improves his basic footballing skills I think he'll always be a decent Championship striker - and to be honest looking back to last year he wasn't exactly a prolific scorer there either.

If the (new) board is serious about establishing Blues as a successful top flight team they need a better centre forward than Jerome I fear.

He wont get any confidence if hes just going to play on his own. He needs a quailty partner to help him learn.

I have the same doubts but I would like to see him with an experienced partner and he may come good. I know it was only Walsall but he looked very good wih the Forse there in the friendly and set up his goal with a cute pass.

When he scored all those goals for Cardiff he got great service from Koumas - that's what he is missing here and hope that Palacios can do it for him.

Play him alongside someone and he'll be fine.

vs Derby, alongside Forssell, scored 2

vs Blackburn, when O'Connor came on, scored

I put this in another thread. He was poor in the first half but improved second half when Forsell came on. He seems incapable of making chances for himself and so is always going to be useless playing on his own up front. His first touch is dreadful and so he wastes time when having a shot or looses the ball completly. We need to try him and Forssell together because we can't continue to play him on his own.

is he capable of scoring 15 to 20 goals in the prem ,is he able to hold up play around the box,is he able to play the lone striker role,
answer to all those questions at the moment is NO,
CAN HE BE A GOOD STRIKE PARTNER FOR ANOTHER STRIKER AND CHIP IN WITH 10 TO 15 GOALS,
in the prem im not convinced, was he convincing in the cola league,im not convinced about that either.

to be fair hes wasted alone, but wen forssell came on he still missed his chances, another striker will help him but they cant help him score its down to his own skill to put the ball in the back of the net.

wasting too many games without a goal scorer and its gonna cost us.

FEED THE FORS!

Not good enough to play the lone striker role (which is why I criticise the manager for playing 4-4-1-1 without the right personnel), and judging by his finishing today, possibly not good enough at this level in any formation. I cant fault his effort - but I'm not kidding when I say that his lack of composure in front of goal makes players like Horsefield and Stern John look like world-beaters!

I've been saying exactly the same thing on here for 12 months or more - but I ususally get slated by eveyone saying how great his work rate is etc etc. Bottom line is he's paid to score goals and he doesn't .

i think he can be a premier striker easily . He has improved massively in the last 6 months and looks the part when he plays now i think. Play him and forsell up top next game.

As silly as this might sound......... What about Earnshaw and Jerome partnership again. The seem to know how to play off each other, albeit at championship standard, but they do seem to compliment each other.

Look at Heskey and Owen when re-united for England recently.

Just a thought..............

On his own, no. He is still young and learning the game. To expect him to lead the frontline of a Prem team is a big ask. Not many could do it.

However with someone along side him as a foil, his pace and power is a great asset.

Got to disagree with you there! If you look at the perfomance of blues today we had a great spell of pressure and looked very likely to score a second and win the game but i dont think it was by chance that we lost that flair when he and nafti went off?

Plus jerome is only 22/23??? his young for a striker he has a lot of potenial to be a top class striker

CJ is a decent player and has bags of potential, but he isn't ready to play on his own up front yet, play him along side another striker or bring him on to run at tired defences.

The simple answer is no,he is no where near good enough,he can't shoot properly, can't hold a man off and his first touch is shocking.

As far as I am aware Jerome is only 20. He has every chance of becoming a top class striker, but at his age, and with the inconsistent quality of service from our midfield, asking him to play up front on his own is too much. If Forsell is truly fit to play alongside him, Jerome could become an excellent player.

He would be a great player if he could strike the ball... now baring in mind the position he plays, that ability is quite important.

It is a pity that he can't control or trap a ball otherwise he'd be brilliant, unfortunatley though those two attributes are vital to any Striker no matter how old he is.
Think Jerome's another Morrison IMO, lots of potential and a class act on his day but will only ever do it in fits and starts. We waited three years for Morrison to come good and he never did, how long are we going to give Jerome??

This boy is consistent! Consistently shows a very poor first touch! Consistently shows no positional awareness at all! Consistently shows a lack of composure in front of goal and consistently misses the target!
Yes he has pace, but so does a cheatah, and they can't play football either! As for him being up front on his own and not getting the service and so it's not his fault? Do me a favour and take note that our results over the past few months tell the true story. He maybe young (which is still no excuse for generally poor footy skills) and may come good but thats little comfort with his consistently inept displays and the fact that we're sliding down that table! I he can't score (which is why he is VERY well paid) then he has to be dropped.

End of mini rant. For now!!!!

It doesnt help when he's constantly getting the ball hoofed up to his head against 6ft + defenders. He didnt have a chance of winning any headers against Knight and Laursen, getting him running onto the ball and he can make things happen. Jerome and Forsell to start could well work like the Morrison and Forsell partnership which was working a few seasons ago!
