Forsell was a big plus point to come out of today. If he can stay fit he could be instrumental in our survival. Feed the Force and all the rest of it!!

i've said for a while now that Forssell is the only striker at the club with the ability and the predatory instinct to score goals at this level. he took his header brilliantly, leaving his marker (Laurssen) nowhere whilst he rose in between the two defenders!

sorry but Jerome does not have this and neither does O'Connor, although i think O'Connor has better predatory instinct than Jerome. CJ's finishing was/is woeful.

what amazes me is that in the run up to the game we were told O'Connor and Jerome might not make it along with McSheffrey yet all three featured in the squad and we didn't bother with a utility man or defensive cover (Parnaby could do both) on the bench. had Djourou have gone off we would've been stuck playing players out of position - again!

and i'm sorry but no-one else is responsible for that except the manager!

with all 3 strikers fit i see no reason why we couldn't have started with 4-4-2 and Jerome and one of Fors or O'Connor up there with him, swapping over if they were struggling knowing we also had McSheff on the bench too! it was once more hesitant tactics from Steve Bruce.

i'm personally getting to the point that i would love to see this current squad under the direction of another manager because i feel they have lots more to offer than what is being asked of them right now!

I've sat on the fence and not said too much about Brucie, I actually think he's done fantastically well to keep us ahead of the other two promoted teams with the money we've spent, however if he fails to go with two up front against portsmouth (don't care if it's 4-4-2 or 3-5-2) then I can see myself slipping off the fence into the 'out' field. We played into the Viles hands first half by allowing the back four to have enough space to play high enough up the pitch to squeeze the midfield, this meant our attacking midfielders actually spent too much time defending because instead of it being 3V5 it actually became 5V5 with the two full backs pushing on. Steve, take note there are few aspects of your tactical game that needs attention (eg, the old chestnut of not leaving a player up at corners/set pieces).

Forsell looks to me as though he's fit, he's also scoring regularly now (ok mostly in the reserves) and is a player who now (first time in years) believes that he's going to score. Jerrome works hard but hasn't matured enough in this division to get us more than 6-7 in a season, I believe he will do in the next few seasons but just not yet; Jerromes work rate could, however, create a lot of space for Forsell (very much like Morrison did once upon a time) and that could bring Forsell 10-15 goals in a season.

Jerromes young and I'm sure he will come good but he's far too young and inexperienced to ask him to play the lone striker role, we need a cutting edge and two up front is the only way to go.

I'd agree 100%

Pick your players on form and play the way that your players can play. We'd all love to have the luxury of being able to play 451 like chelsea and still win 6-0 but we aren't and it will be a long time until we are.

We have one very good striker who is in form albeit reserve football and another that creates that space and loves to run at teams. IMO Jerome will never be the man to play on his own up top but i do think that playing alongside a player like Forsell he will learn his craft a good deal better.

herein lies a problem, imo.

i think that Jerome feels he is the number 1 striker at the club and that's understandable given that Bruce sees him as the player to lead the line, however ineffectively.

when Fors bagged his goal yesterday you could see Jerome wanted to respond; i don't have a problem with this as competition between strikers is to be encouraged but i think Jerome needs to play to his strengths, like being strong and quick and creating space for a more natural finisher - Forssell - to get more goals. this will not only improve the teams chances of winning games but also improve confidence. his strength is not his finishing!

he tried an audacios stop corner effort yesterday when a simple through ball might have meant another goal for the confident Forssell.

then in training Jerome needs to work on his finishing as it's woeful at times.

he really needs strong management right now as seeing Forssell come in and score like he did could cause Jerome to lose confidence. play him to his strengths and that does not mean alone up front.

Forsell - our best player ! he should start first , he had the experience and skill ...Jerome is a great player , but way too unexpirienced for a league like Prem. ...anyway we need another good clas striker , and it would be vital to find one in January ...

Good Luck! :Blues:
