We couldn't wait to get to half-time and try something different, which we did, and that worked better for us and we looked a threat up front.

my message is simple, if you couldn't wait til half time why wait; forgive me if i'm wrong but Forssell was warming up in the first half and the managers' job is to make a change if he feels it necessary, no matter when or where during the game!

WP was out of sorts (understandable) yesterday and a derby match was no place for a player in his frame of mind; so why not make the change before half time of the problem is staring you in the face. it's a tough call on Wilson admitedly but that's why a manager needs to be strong, sometimes you have to make tough decisions!

Villa were in the ascendency and a 2nd goal in the first half could have cost us the match much earlier than it did. sorry but these after-match excuses and quotes are making Bruce look a bigger fool than many of us think he already is!

Our first choice team was the team at 90 minutes - imo.
Also, it usually is, so why start with the 'weaker' team, or does he expect the subs to always turn it around, so keeps something special in reserve?
I don't know, all I do know is that we always seem to have the best choice at the end of the game and not the start.

Why o earth do we always start with a formation for which we lack the players - 4-5-1 - then change to 4-4-2 and look and perform much better? Also, why do we have perfectly good fullbacks not even in squad yet centre halves are playing out of position?
Anyone else wondering when we'll see Jaidi and Sadler adding a little mettle to the back four?

Sadler should have played simple as that. He's a local lad, he would have been well up for the battle yesterday, thats what we needed, so i agree on that point.

I dont think Jaidi can improve our side wahtsoever, he's far to eratic imo, rushes when he has time and generally not as good as our other centre halfes, he would only play infront of tebily if it was my choice.

This was the team I wanted to see start (and finish) against Villa (posted last week):

--------------------------------------Taylor-------------------------------------------

--Kelly---------------Ridgewell------------------Schmidt------------------Sadler--

-------------------------------------Djourou------------------------------------------

-De Ridder----------------------------------------------------------------Larsson---

----------------------------Nafti--------------------------------------------------------

---------------------------------------------------------------------Kapo--------------

----------------------------------------Forssell----------------------------------------

Subs: Jerome/Danns/Muamba/O'Connor/Kingson

I will probably get shot down in flames for this, but 'm afraid that I would leave Kapo out. To me, he was our weakest player on Sunday. He put no pressure on their player who sent in the cross for the first goal. People would have slaughtered Julian Gray if he had done the same.

Apart from that, he was anonymous throughout the match, a match in which we needed an up tempo, in their face approach.

Sure he's scored several good goals but he has often been a luxury passenger.

I would play Forsell and Jerome (Or O'Connor) in attack and have De Ridder and Larsson on the wings, with Muamba and Palacios as centre midfield. (I'm assuming Nafti will be out for some time.)

I've seen Olivier in a couple of matches seem to get really worried when the heavy tackles went in, I wouldn't mind betting that he was brainwashed by Steve to expect a few before this match.

see what you're saying but luxury player or not he has notched important goals for us and shows that bit of creativity in front of goal, in a team that can't score!

when he picks the ball up in the last 30yds the opposition are just not sure what he can or will do and that's to our advantage. not sure i would pick WP - should never have started yesterday or until crisis is over - but i would play Kapo and Muamba in central midfield with Muamba more defensive and Kapo linking the play with the strikers - yes that's plurel. two up front is the way to go.

Can you even begin to imagine Jaidi against the vile's pace?? No thanks, that's the stuff of nightmares.

Blacksmith I agree about Kapo as regards his defensive work but how do you leave out your (current) top goal scorer when you cannot see Jerome scoring. Please God Forssell stays fit and is back on form.

I guess I'm pinning my hopes on Forsell and O'Connor. It would be with reluctance that I left Kapo out, but we need to attack and defend as a whole unit, and be a hard working team.
