Tell me which player won the U21 Euro Championships in the Summer and is currently in the first XI of the squad. There isn't one. De Ridder is the most important man in the team along with Kapo, Forssell. Just shows the incompetency of McLeish picking his average boys from Scotland.
average boys from scotland, ok so you are saying they are average ...... well it looked like too me that one of those average boys practically brang france too their knees....under mcleish......and the other one also helped scotland get damn near qualifiying to the euros and also getting more points than the "world class english" players did against the likes of macedonia and suchlike, so mate whether you are chewing a brick or talking down scotland youre going too lose some teeth

what i have seen of him he looks like he has real quality absolute minimum a place on the bench can beat a man and get a cross over can be a bit greedy at times but can give any full back plenty to think about so while they are busy defending it stops them raiding forward im not saying he is a world beater or am i saying he should play every minute of every game but he must get a chance he has nothing wrong in the reserves
:applause: he needs a bench place at least, even with Mcsheffs poor form he has still figured in games.

de ridder is a quality player who shows fantastic promise, he's the sort of player i hope shows birmingham are at least thinking about being a creative team we all want them to be. For me when we were relegated pennant was the star of the season because he was the one player who brought hope to the team, everytime he raced down the wing gave me a belief goals were gonna follow, now de ridder isn't quite that standard but he has ability and the potential to emulate pennant but he needs games to build confidence. My attacking team would be . . . . . . . . . . . . . Doyle. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Kelly. . . . . . . . Ridgewell. . . . . . Murphy
. . . . . . . . . . . . . .nafti . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
De ridder. . larson. . . Zarate . . .Kapo. . .
. . . . . . Forssell . . . . mcfadden. . . . . . . .

I read that because of the injury from Olivier Kapo, that Daniël de Ridder could get back in the squad :D
- Quote:

BLUES' battle against the drop has suffered a blow with the news that Olivier Kapo could be out of action for around a month.
The attacking midfielder (pictured) limped off during Saturday's draw against Arsenal with a hamstring injury that was scanned.
"It's a bad one," revealed manager Alex McLeish. "He's got a tear and he's out for four weeks."
The loss of Blues' joint top-scorer could be softened should his replacement grasp the opportunity.
Gary McSheffrey and Daniel de Ridder, both of whom have been frustrated at a lack of recent action, come into the equation, said McLeish.

where the hell is he again, great win i know but yet again Mcsheffrey is picked ahead of him and does very little to warrant this, why cant Mcleish cut the guy a break, if anything why isn't Zarate being given a chance with at least a place on the bench for the dutchman what has the guy done to deserve being left out in the cold

Great news... 'Dan the Man' played a fantastic game against Fulham reserves. Some quote's from a matchreport from a Fulham website:
- Quote:
-
"The lively Daniel De Ridder was far and away the most potent threat for Birmingham and he forced a fine save from Wesley Foderingham in the 40th minute when he sprinted through the Fulham midfield and unleashed a fierce shot which Foderingham did well to hold on to."
"The second half saw far less meaningful attacking activity from both sides as the temperature took a sharp drop. But again it was De Ridder who was giving Birmingham the most hope. Cutting in from the right flank on 48 minutes, his low skidding shot needed a smart save from Foderingham."
"Mauro Zarate nearly netted an equaliser for the Blues on 65 minutes when he was found by a good cross-field pass from De Ridder but was unable to keep his shot down from 25 yards."
"The equalising goal came in 87th minute and once more, the strike appeared out of keeping with the flow of the game. De Ridder found himself in plenty of space down the right wing after a diagonal pass seemed to catch the Fulham back line unawares. Play continued amid suspicions of offside as the young Dutchman advanced on goal from the inside right channel. Foderingham came out to meet him but the ball was squared to Cameron Jerome 12 yards out. His initial shot was blocked on the line by Kallio but he made no mistake with the rebound."
I say: 'Let's let him play next saturday!'

Agree... at least put him on the bench. He showed his class in the reserves and now it's time to give him a chance.

It is an interesting one......I think he warrants a place on the bench but I can't see McLeish altering his 16 from the weekend. When you look at the make-up of the bench it is quite structured:
- a defender who can play across midfield - a defensive midfielder - an attacking midfielder - a striker - a GK
The only player I can see him displacing on the bench is Nafti, but with an away game against Portsmouth coming up I think that McLeish might opt for more defensive cover (in the chance that we are 1-1 or 1-0 in front) on the bench rather than the width and attacking drive that could be offered by DDR.
Likewise I can't see McLeish swapping a left-sided player in McSheff for a non-natural left sided player in either Larsson or DDR.
I hope his time will come, hopefully a little sooner rather than later.

Fulham survived a late scare in the final seconds of injury time when De Ridder was brought down on the edge of the box for a free kick in a dangerous position, fortunately Foderingham produced a good save to ensure the draw.
