I wasn't really paying attention to Blues at the time of Seaman in goal, and I am interested to know at the time he was playing, did he ever look like a keeper who could play for England?

I say this based on Colin Doyle ;)

I guarantee, Colin Doyle will never play for England :P

Also, with the title of this thread, I was a little bit nervy about clicking on it...

Seaman was a Saunders signing, but Coton was signed by Jim Smith from Mile Oak Rovers. Coton was a Blues fan and used to stand on the Tilton. He saved a penalty within one minute of his debut against Sunderland.

The sad thing is, his career was wrecked while playing for Sunderland 22 years later, when he broke his leg in five places.

He was goalkeeping coach at Manchester United until January this year, when a knee in jury forced his retirement.

David Seaman ...BCFC career

Just over two years later, in October 1984, Second Division Birmingham City paid Peterborough Utd £100,000 for Seaman's services. They ended up winning promotion at the end of that season, but were relegated again at the end of the following season. Seaman was not to follow them back to Division Two, however.

In August 1986, just one month after the birth of his second son Thomas Andrew Seaman (now pro poker player), David Seaman moved to Q.P.R. for £225,000. Playing in a higher profile club on a plastic pitch, he earned his first England cap, which came under Bobby Robson in a friendly against Saudi Arabia in November 1988. Whilst at Q.P.R., Seaman was coached by Arsenal double-winner (of 1971) Bob Wilson, who was to work with him for more than a decade.

i remember that penalty save, both great keepers, although for service to the club i think Ian Bennett shades them both.

True

But if only we had a Coton or a Seaman today though ....or even a Paul Cooper

We'd be safe already.........I'd bet anything on it

Maik Taylor still makes me nervous

I can't get my head around how someone last season (Doyle) could be so good and yet this season he was terrible. Even doing poorly in the reserves from what I heard.

Seaman in the goal but none of it made it's way to Taylors gloves he couldn't get hold of anything, suprising he actually had time with the cameras being there and how busy we were kept in the second half must have got a quick one in while nobody was looking,

Went to watch blues play away at Sheff Wed once can't remember the year, Seaman was in goal. They hammered us, stuck 5 passed us we all started singing "We don't care we don't care we don't care."
My favourite Keeper of all time down the blues was Colin Withers (Wonder what happened to him.)

does anyone recall Jim Blyth playing in goal with a broken arm...I think it was against Sunderland at home...none of the fans knew he had broken his arm and we kept being sarcastic telling him to punch the ball as he refused to catch it ???
