.....any professional footballer who catches the ball in a central position a few yards outside of his own area, anticipating that the flag would be raised for offside rather than waiting for the whistle, therby giving away a dangerous free kick, is a complete and utter buffoon who should donate his weekly wages to a worthwhile charity.

Fortunately last nights weekly moment of madness didn't lead to a goal, but it is still unforgivable. From the age of five every, and I mean 'every' single lad who ever kicked a football is taught to play to the whistle. The player in question needs to get his act together, and quickly. He's looking like a liability.

Always amazes me when people open their statements with comments like "Dont want to slate any individual but.. or With all due respect etc. coz it always meqans the exact opposite, no offence intended

I remember Sergio Ramos doing the same thing for Real Madrid but inside the penalty area and the linesman/referee didn't see it!!!

It was a shame because said player was having a decent game up until the incident. He needed an error free game to move on but this will make more pressure on him in the next game.

Actually, I have to hold my hands up and admit that you're right. I actually DID want to slate him because it was another 'schoolboy' error, and I want him to stop making schoolboy errors, but I wanted to slate him in a fairly non-judgemental, PC sort of way. Probably can't be done so I'll give myself a :redcard:

Watch a Team like Wigan, there clearances are AIMED at a striker.

Ridgewell just uses the "Kick and Hope" Approach.

Poor player and that handball.. I was amazed he's still playing.

Must have been all four of our centre backs that put Cahill off.

Stupid thing to do i agree, but doesnt anyone think it strange that the ref didnt book him for deliberate handball, i reckon the ref thought the linesman was going to raise the flag as well.

Pity Ridewell an ex- viler, he wouldnt be getting the stick hes getting if he wasnt

i hate to imagine what Mrtin O'Neil wrote in his notes wilst watching the game, probably.... Blues still lump it out of defence to Mr anywhere will do, note to my Midfielders, play in and around centre circle, ball should come to you automatically at least 15 to 20 times a match.

That was hilarious, i was above, he looked as if he was going to fetch the ball because everyone was sick of the ball boys, but he must of had a bit to drink and by the time he had got on the pitch the ball had gone, so he realised, had a bit of banter with the away fans, and then had a roll around with a couple of stewards.

I think you'll find that any blues fans that goes to the match have probably been 'over accommodating' to Ridgewell this season.

The Villa connection hasn't come into for me and I think if he had not been a ex-Villa player he would of got more stick!

He has some very good parts to his game, vocally he is superb and he does have 'get it out attitude'.

But we all know he is going to **** up at least once a match and far too often this season it resulted in goals.

Agree, in are haste to prove we have stolen a gem from the Vile we seem reluctant to admit he is not up to scratch as thats like admitting the Vile got one over on us.

My mate swears bind he still on the books for them as some sort of boat rocker  he insists that as Pro Footballer you cant consistanly make that many basic mistakes :LMAO:

Again this seems to be having a go at a Blues player in total isolation of what goes on in football day in day out. The number of times I see players grab the ball pre whistle is so numerous i couldn't even start to count. But it seems if it is a player for Arsenal, Manure, Liverpool of any top club it is OK, even, and this astounds me, even for Blues supporters????? I don't think I will ever get to grips with that.

Wisel, Players catch the ball after the whistle has gone, not in anticipation of it!

There was no whistle except to tell Ridgewell he had ****** up and given the oppo a free kick in a dangerous position.

Sorry to disagree, but I absoiutely do. It is part of the gamesmanship in the modern game, catch the ball force the ref to decide in your favour. Arsenal do it all the time.

no need to apologise :)

Regardless of 'other' incidents, do you think it was the right thing to do? Would you like this to be taught to 7/8 year olds on a Sunday morning as part and parcel of modern football?

Didnt one of the Manure players do it in the Man U Vs Blues at Old trafford when the ball was going out for a throw in? The player caught it before it had gone out and then played a throw-in off the pitch legally. The ref just allowed it to happen, I was very confused  I think it was Ferdinand or Brown....

I just wish he could have an error free game. Just one this season would be nice.

Players go down all the time and grab hold of the ball, sometimes its not even a freekick.
