or maybe hes not physically ready? imo pompey was the worst team for him to make his first start against as they are physical, most south americans struggle in england for the same reason. im sure big eck has said many times his fitness isnt the best thats why he hasnt played, at the end of the day he looks good at the end of a game but id rather start with the player we know will do there job, lets face it we are in a battle not a showboat competition. but i would love to see him in action, maybe the villa can be his game that he shines :D kro ! |

When Mascherano and Tevez came to this country, despite being older AND having come from a much more competitive league, they took a good six months to settle: Tevez couldn't score for love nor money and Mascherano couldn't even get in the West Ham side. Anyone with even a vague knowledge of South American football knew how good this pair were (both full internationals for one of the best teams in the world), but it took them TIME to settle in. New language, new culture, new climate, new everything. Young Mauro is going through the same process now, and showed in the Portsmouth match that he is not ready for a starting place yet. I think that if we stay up McLeish will be asking the board to make a serious pursuit of Zarate for next season, by which time he should be ready to be unleashed on the Premiership for a full 90. But he isn't there yet. |

Most of us can see how good he is, most of us can also see that whilst having loads of skill and massive potential that he's not quite ready for the Premier League full time yet. As Franscar pointed out Tevez and Mascherano took time to settle in and they were both older than Zarate. He's come to us from something approaching a pub league and needs careful nurturing. |

The other side of it is. Jose Dominques was the most exciting player I had seen down the Blues. We were outside the Prem then and eventually Jose went to Spurs were he just disappeared. Maybe Zarate could have done with a period at a lower league English side first. Having said that, Zarate is twenty-one (last week) and not really a kid. He is four years older than Muamba. And while we are on the subject of age Daniel De Ridder is 24. Everybody is refering to him as a kid! |

the fact he isnt usually a starter is the fact he doesnt defend whether out wide or up top. Faddy tracks back and helps out, and links the play between the midfield and striker (Forssell). Zarate has that unpredictability about him where he could beat 3 or 4 men and get into a position to cross, then our midfield (McSheff/Muamba/Larsson) would get in the box for a cross, but he'd try something else, lose possession, and then we'd be exposed at the back, which could easily cost us a goal. Today, personally I feel the inclusion of Nafti is vital for him. Nafti never leaves his side apparently, and that can be seen when they warm up etc, they both speak the same language, and its obvious Big Eck has asked Nafti to help him out. Nafti will sit infront of the back four today, and rarely move from there, therefore giving us an extra man back whilst the attacking players can do their bit up front. Larsson best be 100% fit as he will need to watch the likes of Hunt and Shorey coming forward, and McSheff needs to put his shift in aswell. We'll end up playing on the counter attack by getting the ball into Nafti, letting him put his foot on it and pass either out to Larsson/Mc Sheff or up to Zarate to hopefully do some of his magic and create a goal or 4 :) |
