On my reckoning, Blues have only got 4 players in the current squad capable of competing for a top ten place in the Premiership - which has to be McCleish's [and the Board's] medium term aim if we can survive this season [which we will at the expense of Bolton]:

Category A Players [capable of competing in the top flight]

Murphy
Larsson
Muamba
McFadden

Category B Players [destined for ever to fight for survival]

Kelly [no creativity going forward]
Ridgewell
Nafti
Kapo [too lazy]
Forssell
Parnaby
De Ridder
Zarate [unproven]

[c] Category C Players [only good enough for the Championship]

Taylor
Doyle
Jaidi
Taylor
Scmidt
Quedrue
Johnson
McSheffrey
Jerome
O'Connor

:Blues:

swap muamba with kelly and thats prity spot on, apart from muambas tacking he is an awful player.

I think you live in a fantasy land and maybe you should open your eyes to what goes on on the playing field.

How you can rate muamba as a 'class A' player and then Kelly as a 'class B' is beyond me.

And then to say Kapo and Forssel are both 'class B' too is ridiculous. Then to lump Jerome, Johnson and Maik Taylor as Championship class and no more defies logic if you ask me.

Are you sure you are a blues supporter?

We all know we have stronger players than others, as does every other team in the world.

We also know that if we are survive in the prem next season ( avoiding relegation this time of course ) then changes will have to be made but to label all of our players is not only childish but it is negative in the upmost.

In fact I would say it's the opposite of support....[/QUOTE]

A lot of replies to my original post, seem to have missed the point. What I was interested in was building a side to compete in the Premiership next year [by Category A players] not merely survive [with Category B players].

Surely that's what all supporters of the Blues should want...

How can I rate Muamba as Cat A and Kelly as Cat B ? Straightforward really. Muamba is an outstanding young player who has a genuine chance of full international honours with England. Stan Collymore believes he will play for one of the top 4 clubs within 2 years. Graham Taylor believes he could be the next Patrick Viera. He is currently being watched by Steve Coppell and Steve Bruce [plus a.n. other] if Blues end up being relegated. Posters on this Board recently said we should not sell him for less than £5M.

Stephen Kelly is a good journeyman professional who has had an excellent season. He is defensivley sound and makes frequent last ditch goal saving tackles. However, he offers nothing going forward which is an essential ingredient for top class right backs. His market value is probably circa £2M. [In my view] he is not in the same class as other Blues RB's of past years such as David Langan or Gary Rowett.

Kapo drifts in and out of games and Forssell is still some way short of his best. That is why I see both of them as Cat B players [ie. bottom end of Prem]. What top ten side would sign either of them ? Particularly when you consider that McFadden, who is in a different class to both of them, can't make the Everton first team.

David Sullivan is quoted as recently suggesting that when we stay up, the Board intend to invest in 5 top quality players. That [in my opinion] is great news and what all Blues fans should want to hear.

We've all suffered so many years of struggling against adversity that it seems you can't be seen as a true Blues fan if you wish for improvement.

Category A Players [capable of competing in the top flight]

Murphy
Larsson
Muamba
McFadden
Kapo
Forssell- [maybe not first choice but yeah, he has the ability]
Kelly [Wes Brown? Mellberg? Hibbert? top ten right backs who aren't wing backs]
Zarate [from what I've seen he has the potential, just give it time]
Jerome [he's 20 ffs, give him time]

Category B Players [destined for ever to fight for survival]
Ridgewell
Nafti
Parnaby
De Ridder
Johnson
McSheffrey [some day he'll be OK for a bottom 10 side]
Doyle [do you have short memory, remember last season? Keepers don't usually become good enough till 25-26]

[c] Category C Players [only good enough for the Championship]
Taylor
Jaidi
Taylor
Scmidt
Quedrue
O'Connor
