Why do Blues charge a £1.50 handling fee per ticket for away games?

This no doubt would have been brought up before, but before my time on here.

It's pretty well standard policy for clubs I think. You get charged handling fee for theatres, concerts and pretty well anything you buy a ticket for nowadays, I'm afraid.

Blacksmith

Standard for a credit card fee.

Handling fees I have only come across when going through an authorised agent. Also why don.t we have a handling fee for home games then? - please delete post if you think this might give Karren an idea.

Correct me cos I might be wrong, but the basic cost of the ticket goes to the home team so because the away team is selling tickets on their behalf there is a cost (mainly staff salary), so the £1.50 is charged to cover that.
In respect of the credit card charge the credit card companies charge a handling fee of the merchant which is passed onto the customer. Most merchants absorb the fee in the cost of the goods.

So we sell 5000 Wigan tickets - that's £7,500 handling fees to pay 3 girls in the ticket office. Not bad, £2,500 each for a weeks work.
The ticket office wages is a known overhead and should not be funded this way.

As for the credit card fee, as you say most merchants absorb the cost.....surprise surprise but not the Blues.

No there not, they are factured into the sales price. Nothing is for free, for example, if you book a hotel room, the credit card fee is calculated in the room rate, if you pay cash you can sometimes negotiate a reduction.
All card fees are paid for by the customer, it’s just a case of if you show it as a separate fee or include it in the sales price.

The comment about 4000 fans to Wigan is a bit misleading, you need to say what the average away ticket sales are, to work out the revenue received and then deduct the costs. Ie wages, phone system, office, printing of receipts etc…I am sure it would show a small profit. But nothing to right home about, just seems like good common sense to make sure you don’t lose money on a service you are providing.
I suppose it could be turned round and be used as a bit of PR by not charging, but Hey we know how Karen works and the end of the day she has the clubs finance interest at heart and we should be thankful in some way as we don’t have finical problems like most clubs.
