I was about to post on this subject. Just watching the Bolton game and saw that Diaby tackle. It was a replica of Martin Taylor's challenge on Eduardo! Yet Wenger was shaking his head in disbelief that the ref sent his player off! :o

Diaby's high challenge on Steinsson and subsequent red card was one negative aspect of the game, and it appeared to be a similar challenge to the one that ended Eduardo's season against Birmingham.

But, while Wenger admits it was a definite sending off, he claims there was 'no comparison' with Taylor's tackle.

"It was not destined to hit. I think it was more a protective tackle, but it was a fraction high and we cannot complain about the red card.

"I feel there is no comparison as (Taylor's) was much higher.

"That's the rule now and when you're off the floor you have to accept that you can be sent off."

If the footage of Taylor's tackle is looked at properly, it wasn't a high tackle at all. Contact was made quite low on the leg near the ankle. The favoured picture makes it look a lot higher as it was taken a split second before contact.

After everything that was said following Taylor's mistimed tackle Wenger should have said nothing, he should just have accepted the red card and stayed quiet. Why bring Taylor into this? To make his player look better? Taylor made an honest tackle and was beaten by the speed of the player. He is right, there is no comparison. Diaby's was reckless Taylor's wasn't.

Just had a cheeky look on 'another' forum. Apparently, according to the gooners, the geometry of the tackle means that it was in no way equivalent to Martin Taylor's on Eduardo.

Draw your own conclusions

What is worse is that Diaby catches the players other leg, not the one he kicked the ball away with. That is an indication of how far away it was.

Add to the fact that he slid in aswell whereas Taylor just stuck a leg out.

Let Wenger say whatever he wants, it would be hard for him to come out of this with any credit whatever he says. More people are seeing through him now.

Precisely the reason why Blatters attempt to ruin football starting with Blues will fail.

ABSOLUTE DISGRACE

How Wenger can defend that challenge is beyond belief.

High, late, off the ground, lunge with studs showing. Totally different to Taylor's in that Diaby knew the dangers when he launched himself at the player. It is pure luck that the Bolton player stood up let alone played on.

After everything that was said by half the Arsenal squad and the manager about taylor this can not and should not be defended by any of them.

Ditto. Disgrace. Did you see him shaking his head at the decision to send him off too? Pathetic.

Heard about this when checking updates of the game on my phone earlier.

It was described as "a dreadful lunge from Abou Diaby gave the referee little choice but to show the Arsenal man a red card".

I immediately thought I bet he wont mention that and have a go about that, and then defend him after the incident. Havent seen anything, not the tackle, no reactions, or Wenger's response but hes a hypocrit if he doesnt accept it and at least apologise for it or reprimand Diaby

Wenger just said it wasn't an aggressive lunge!!!!!!!!!!!! FFS was he watching the same challenge as the rest of us?

Pathetic Wenger. Would have had more credibility if he had claimed not to have seen it.

the tackle was way worse than taylors!

he slammed in with force, high and late with studs showing.

It is a disgrace how he brushed over it, and how he shook his head. It could quite easily haveresulted in a broken leg.

Wenger :redcard:

Am I missing something...? Where did Wenger compare it to Taylors tackle or deny that it was a red card tackle?

During the highlights you could see he didn't think it was a red card but in the interview afterwards he defended his player (by saying it wasn't intentional) and agreed it was a red card.

He sed that Taylor should be banned from football for a less bad tackle.

He defended a full blooded lunge tackle, which he claimed was disgusting when Taylor did it.

He retracted that statement about Taylor, its the Arsenal fans and players that keep going on about it.

And he has to defend his player. He can't come out with "my player is a dirty thug" in front of the media.
