im posting here mods as i was curious could you edit the swear filter and instead of stars have it come out with random words? Like duck instead of the f word? Rhyming words etc as who knows it might be funny when people go on a rant :P |

We could (and in fact used to use different words - although not rhyming words). However, I think that could lead to people posting swear words on purpose for the fun of it. Nevertheless, I'll will see what the others think and get back to you. Mo x |

Sorry for asking again but i think my point was lost by other people asking questions. Why is the the word S C U M classed as being a swear word? And if there is a reason why is it not also banned as a prefix to other words pretty much saying the same thing? |

Because until people try other words to get around the swear filter, then we don't know about them. As soon as someone comes up with something we've missed, then it goes in there. There is now a wild card around the word **** - and yes, calling someone **** is considered abusive so it is in the filter (obviously the word will not be shown in my post but you get my drift). Apologies for being a bit picky on this but if the filter is banning words on the basis that they may cause offence even if they are not normally seen as a swear word, then does that not mean that most words could be banned on the basis that they could be interpreted as being abusive/offensive towards another. Surely sarcasm is therefore a border line for being filtered on the basis that someone may find it offensive? |

Sorry - but the concensus of opinion amongst the admin/mods is that the word filter should stay as it is. Mo x |
