Now hopefully we can sign a few players with age on their side who can benefit.

**thumbup let's hope that is the last of the old-timers.

With an influx of good younger players then Carsley and Phillips will be v.good business.

Welcome Kev.

I think he will be a good signing and do a good job for us this season like he did for the Baggies last year. Looks like one of his main reasons to come was because he felt he would be on the bench a lot with them, but going on their previous seasons in the prem I can't see them tempting anybody bigger than Kevin. Selling him to us I think shows a lack of ambition which is highlighted on their message board. There is a lot of chat about wishing Kev luck next season but not us and hoping that we don't get promoted but it sounds like sour grapes. I think it's a great bit of business for us.

I was a great fan of Kev, some time back. Not so sure he can still cut the mustard, but I'll be happy to be proved wrong.

I think he certainly proved he can cut the mustard last year.

I think he'll be a decent player to have around next season and welcome him, but don't you think there will come a time when he's finished?..........who's to say last season wasn't his peak?..............It will be interesting to read the comments if he's only got two goals after a dozen games and Blues aren't running away with the league!!

Anyway SuperKev, Good Luck for the coming season :applause:

He's past it in my opinion..

His best years have gone! I think he will struggle this season.. The spine of the team is maik taylor, jaidi, carsley and philips, and the championship is a slog they say!

Why aren't we signing younger players?

Another signing done on the cheap too! "no"

When are we going to get some decent new players in?

Why? Phillips scored 24 goals last season and Carsley wasn't injured at all last year & was worshipped by the toffee's fans, if we sign another player of their quality at their age then i would be more than happy.

You always look for a negative in any positive. We sign the the best possible player at this level that we can and you still moan

How do you make that out to be a negative or a moan?

Can you not read? Are you unable to comprehend? or are you just trying to be big and follow others by saying I'm negative and a moaner?

Well at least you didn't lower yourself and call me a Viler.

Although his age is a bit worrying, 24 goals in 38 games last season should dispel any fears that he is past it.

I have always rated Phillips, especially when he was at Sunderland at the start of the decade.

Welcome Kev. Would have loved to have seen you in a Blues shirt 10 years ago.

A good signing for the Blue IMO. Great goal to game ratio throughout his career. 1 goal every 2 games. Not bad. Rather have him than say Owen.

Welcome Kev glad you chose us. 35 is young. I am over 50 and still play football. :drink:

i rekon this season will be too much for him, will be passed his best

There is always at least one glum comment whatever happens at the blues. Good luck Super Kev, heres to another championship winners medal

Agreed mate, he is a cracking signing IMO he is very fit and has always looked after himself, but the main thing with KP is that he scores goals at any level, top player, well done Blues. :applause:

Barnsley boss Simon Davey has revealed that Kevin Phillips rejected a move to Oakwell in favour of joining Championship rivals Birmingham.

The former England striker opted to sign a two-year contract with Birmingham after failing to persuade West Brom he was worthy of a similar deal at The Hawthorns.

Barnsley were eager to bring the 34-year-old to South Yorkshire and had put together an offer to challenge Birmingham's bid.

"We have been talking with Kevin and his agent since the end of last season when we learned he was available," Davey told the club's official website.

"He was very interested in what we had to say and we put an attractive two-year package to Kevin, which meant that his decision to join Birmingham was not about money.

"Kevin's agent phoned me this morning to say that he has decided to join Birmingham City. It means that Kevin does not have to move his family from the Midlands and he believes that City, with their parachute payments from the Premier League, have a better chance of winning promotion next season.

"I am disappointed for the fans here at Barnsley because Kevin would have been an amazing signing for this football club."

Fair play to philipps , great signing !!!

What i say is true, you have a great positive in the best goal scorer in the fizzy pop league coming to us and you still have a dig about the age of players were signing

I'm not too bothered about what others say about your posts although you seem to have a complex about it ;)

Quality signing

May be getting on but he will score another 20 at least this season

Would still like AM to bring another 'big name' striker to show we mean business

Dave Nugent (Portsmouth)
Dave Kitson (Reading)
Jason Roberts (Blackburn)
Kris Boyd (Rangers)
Steven Fletcher (Hibernian)

All names we've been linked with and if we could get Kitson OR Nugent that would be awesome

Who knows,if we do bring another striker we could even afford to let Garry O Connor go ......Any Pub Team managers out there need a burly Scottish striker ?? feed.back
