Doesn't matter what the board, Mcleish or we want, if seb wants to go he will.

The only person who wants Seb to go is his agent.

I think Seb's happy to give it a season, or even 6 months to see how we're doing.

Perhaps we should start collecting for a wreath for Mr Gold then as I am 100% sure Larsson will be gone come the end of the transfer window. :banghead:

I'm not so sure that he'll be leaving this summer.
I'm inclined to think that a deal has already been made with Seb to say that we will not stand in his way if he wants to leave in January, as long as he stays until then.
If we're top of the CC & looking good for promotion, he might stay - if not he'll be off like a shot :(

Might explain why DS & DG are so vocal in saying he's going nowhere - good PR for them when he doesn't go next month and a 'get-out' from critisism if/when he goes in 6 months time.

(of course I could be wrong... ;) )

Sebs agent was in the Swedish press today saying that it is unfair for Gold to come out with a comment "over his dead body" He says Seb wants to leave and play premiership football. But with these sorts of comments it makes it very hard for him to make his move, the fact that he will become an unhappy player at blues and that the parting will be unpleasant. He says also that he thinks blues will sell Larsson if the right offer comes in as they have done this before after saying players not for sale. He is committed to getting the best move for Larsson before the new season starts, but he also goes on to say that there are 6 weeks of the window left and a lot can happen in that time.
He is concerned that Seb will be un happy if he is forced to stay and that his relationship with the club will be very poor.
He also splurges some nonsense about how bad Swedish players are treated in the UK.
I have translated this myself (I lived in Sweden for 3 years) its not word for word I tried to get the general points of the article and some things don’t really translate that well, having said that the gist of the translation is correct

Oh dear.............but I am not at all surprised.

Does anybody translate Scottish. I'd be interested to see what McFadden and his agent are reported to be saying in the Daily Record.

Cobblers. The board will sell anyone if the money is right. I read that as an instruction to re-evaluate any offer. Save us please from the endless flow of promises and solemn vows from the board; shut up Mr Gold and achieve something, then you can gob off.

If Larsson wants to go he should put in a transfer request. In the absense of such a request his agent should understand he is contracted to us and should button up. I am sick and tired of agents speaking on behalf of players (assuming he is doing that), and the authorities not having the power to do anything about it. Its about time agents were licensed and restrictions put on their actions.
Dig your heals in DG. I'd rather see Larsson sit in the stands and watch us for a season that be sold. Its about time clubs made a stance.

Larsson agent hits out at Gold

Larsson: Agent unhappy

Sebastian Larsson's agent has hit out at Birmingham City chairman David Gold for blocking the Sweden international's St Andrews exit.

Gold claims that Larsson will only leave the club 'over my dead body', with both Blackburn and Newcastle believed to be interested in his services.

Manager Alex McLeish is facing a battle to retain the services of his leading players following Blues' relegation from the Premier League on the final day of last season.

And Per Jonsson is unhappy that the midfielder is not being given the opportunity to move away from the Midlands outfit.

Punished
He told Sportbladet: "It's not funny to hear when he (Gold) says things like that.

"Are we Swedes being punished because we are kind and don't nag to leave?

"Do you need to become enemies with everyone at the club to be allowed to leave?

"He has said things like this before and still sold players anyway.

"Maybe Birmingham will get an offer they can't refuse. I hope it will be solved."

...the reality is agents generally only say what their clients are thinking...they are paid to take the flack, so if a deal falls through the player doesn't alienate the fans of his current club...

...if Per Johnsson is saying Larsson wants to leave, its pretty likely Larsson does want to go...otherwise Larsson would sign a new improved deal, or make a public denial, or find another agent...

...from my experience [working in football in the past] players avoid any confrontation with their managers on contractural issues and hide behind their agents...

:Blues:

The fact is that agents make their money by moving their clients from club to club.

That's pretty good motivation for agents to make sure they unsettle players and persuade them they would be better off elsewhere!!

A Geordie view of the Larsson situation, edited slightly:

Sebastien Larsson Wants Birmingham Talks
Friday July 18th, 2008 by Ed Harrison· 24 Comments

Sebastien Larsson is one player we know Newcastle have already put in an official bid for.

seb-larsson-3.jpg

Seb Larsson - well aware that Newcastle have made bid

There are reports the 23 year-old Swede is seeking talks with Birmingham City chairman David Gold, and seems keen for a move away from St Andrews.

The Swedish midfielder has been in excellent form for the Blues, since joining them from Arsenal last year, despite their relegation season.

Birmingham Chairman David Gold has recently been quoted as saying the Swede would only leave the club “over my dead body”, but we’re not sure he can stop the Swede from leaving the club.

Larsson’s agent, Per Jonsson, has said that a number of top clubs - that include both Newcastle and Blackburn - are still interested in signing the Swedish international.

Jonsson said yesterday:

“It’s not funny to hear when Mr Gold says things like that.”

“Are we Swedes being punished because we are kind and don’t nag to leave?“Do you need to become enemies with everyone at the club to be allowed to leave?”

“He has said things like this before and still sold players anyway.”

“Maybe Birmingham will get an offer they can’t refuse. I hope it will be solved.”

Sensible words from Jonsson, and Birmingham are hardly in a strong negotiating position to keep their best players at the club.

It’s hard to keep them, when you drop down to the Championship, and most top players will have a clause in their contract, that states they will be transfered if the club does get relegated from the Premier League.

Whether he likes it or not, Gold will have to sell Larsson, if Seb wants to leave the club, which seems likely.

We just hope Newcastle are still in there for the youngster, and that we’ll try to get Larsson, even though we have recently signed another right sided midfielder recently, Argentine Jonas Gutierrez.

What do you think about this situation?

Comments welcome.

i think the agents comments are very childish and bad practice! if his client wants to leave he should do his job properly and go through the correct channels to make sure seb gets what he wants,. surely comenents like this serve no purpose. as for whether seb will come. i doubt it considering its a trasnfer saga being conducted in the public. very unlike our new strategy

The board level of that club are run like Trotters inc. first Brady and now this fool.
Birmingham are dropping like a pebble down a canyon and they’re trying to deprive this kid from playing at the top level.

Birmingham are obviously holding out for a decent offer for the lad. If he’s Premiership class, he worth more than a couple of million. They’re a business aswell you know, we can’t expect them to give their best players away.
If he was our player and we were in the same position as Birmingham, we’d be miffed at losing him for such a small amount also!
At least make them a decent offer, and then everyones happy. That’s if we’re interested in him anyway LOL.

If Larsson was our player we would be up in arms about it. At the end of the day he signed a contract to play for Birmingham. While i would like us to sign him, he can hardly complain.

Read somewhere on newsnow that both sunderland and blackburn are after him. There is a mirror journo who posts on a blackburn blog who claims fridel will go to villa today. Blackburn will take robinson as part of the bentley deal and bburn will go after larsson. I thought larsson was a left winger though where they already have pederson. Dont think the bloke is a WUM as he told everyone about the spurs players being sent home at around 4;00pm yesterday before the storyt broke. He say blackburn will have the money to outbid anyone for larsson.

Birmingham will IMO be promoted this season so i dont see why they have to sell him, If they fail and are stuck in the Championship for another season or two, Then they may have to sell up like West Ham did with Carrick.
They made a lot of money through TV last season and were given £30m even after being relegated.
He signed a long term permanent contract at Brum only a year or so ago so its his fault he’s stuck there.

not worth more than 3 mill i reacon hes the same as Guthrie, and look he really didnt play that great last year for Birmingham did he.
he signed for them in 07 for a 4 year deal so goes on for a few years. Also didnt KK mention in his interview yesterday that he WILL NOT sign players in same kind of posisions like Seb is same as Jonas so there is no point we need other players first

Seems a few don't really know much about him but majority appreciate he is our player under contract. Some even seem to think they don't need him?

I can't see him going to Newcastle though. The Blackburns, Boltons, Sunderlands etc are the teams I think will make an official approach but will all be put off by his price tag.

Slightly off topic, but I reckon in your signature that McLeish is the shining barrier between the players who've left and who are here.

It's a sign.

I've lost interest in whether Seb stays now, if he wants to move just make sure we get £5m plus for him and a decent replacement, same applies for Kelly and McFadden.

I can accept Kelly wanting to leave, but Larsson and McFadden in my opinion owe us some loyalty here, sorry, shouldn't use that word when it comes to football.

I totally agree with your point. I think that if larsson shows the desire he doesn't want to be here after being offered a new contract then he can go and the same goes for McFadden. They may be very good players but they don't make a 2 man team we are Birmingham City at the end of the day, and football is a squad game not an individual. I do like them both alot but as far as i'm concerened if they are not happy then they can leave, but don't get me wrong i would be very happy if both stayed but if these claims are true then let him go we can replace him we could get Ben Watson aswell or the Alan Gow were linked with or the dutch player?

KRO :)
