Yes - you can take umbrellas into the ground. At least, I've done so several times and not been stopped. To be fair though, mine is the type that folds up small - they may get a bit niggly if you take one of those ones with a large spike at the end. :D

it's fine to take in a large umbrella with a great big spike on the end but woe betide anyone who wants a small plastic lid for their drink

Spot on there mate!

Yep, a pop bottle top is far more dangerous it seems. PC gone mad...but then i wouldn't expect anything else from down there anymore. I'm just waiting for them to make you turn out your pockets at the turnstile and take all the coins off you.

Its so if you get a bit annoyed and throw your bottle all the liquid will come out and it wont injure anyone it hits

But they let you take a flask full of tea/coffee which i can guarantee would cause more damage if you lobbed that.

Not saying anyone would but my point is....to what degree do you draw the line?

It's more to do with what happens if someone treads on a full bottle on the floor if the lid is still on - the bottle squashes and the lid could fly off and cause injury.

I always take a spare lid or two in my bag. **thumbup
