Does anyone think he will regain the kind of form we saw two seasons ago? I really hope so but today looked more of the same if I'm honest.

He's playing with fear unfortunately. He did put a couple of great crosses in today though, one first half which Larsson ran underneath, one second where Kilgallon arrived just before Bent, but his overall contribution isn't what it was.

It doesn't really help a player with no confidence when he gets the ironic cheers when he's substituted and barely any vocal support for the rest of the match.

This is what I fear Franscar. I can't see us ever seeing the best of McSheffrey again.

He needs a few matches to gain confidence, seemed to play well pre season, just needs to find this form sooner rather then later in the games before Quincy gets fit

he was on edge as was most of the team tbh, once the team settles he will play well imo, larsson was far worse.

Well I thought he was ok today, took the wrong pass a couple of times, but so did a few other today, it happens, was lively first half, gave their backs a bit of trouble, not sure what happened 2nd half though, probably tiredness, but a few other did the same.

Id like him to get back to how he was, but with each passing game, it looks so far away for him.

Oh how id like him to skip past his man, like he used to and cross the ball in or get a good shot on goal, rather than cut back and lose possession or cut back and put an awful cross into the Tilton or Railway.

I hope he can get there, but it will take hard work from him, the coaching staff, and the fans, to instill his confidence back and get him back playing like he did for us 2 seasons ago

McSheffrey would be a decent player if he played for Hartlepool, Swansea or Doncaster. However he plays for Birmingham City and he hasnt been in form for near enough two years.

He either needs to adress the problems that are affecting his football ability or he needs to get out of BCFC.

I favour the latter.

There was a moment in the first half when he got the ball of McFadden, then ran into the area beating a man and got a shot away.

Sadly the shot was blocked as soon as he'd hit it, but for a split second he looked like the old McSheffrey. I would'nt count him out just yet, he's still got a lot to offer.

It's clear that AM had enough, which is why Quincy has come in.

As said before, Sheffers is playing with fear.

He needs to have more belief - something he lost in Jan 2007. That belief involves trying to take on players and getting to the byline to create chances... rather than stopping, $h1tting himself and passing back.

At the moment, I see no way back for him - he's definitely the weakest link in our team.

Thought he was a waste of space yesterday to be honest. A couple of decent crosses and that was it..Thought mcfadden, carsley and ridgewell were excellent tho..

Although I agree that McSheff is not the player he was in his first six months with us I thought we looked significantly poorer when he was substituted even though we scored late in the game but that was a route one goal. When Gary is on fire he is easily capable of winning matches at this level.

He'll never regain form with such negativity from us supporters.

We all know he has the ability. I think he needs to relax and it will come.

Every player has to fight through the hard times, even Henry did.

You say this is not a knocking thread but you must have known that most of the replies to your question would be having a go at Macca. which is really going to help the player's confidence isn't it?!!

You and I both know what your intentions were so you might at least have the b@lls to admit it!!

There were a lot of very average performances out there yesterday McSheff included but it is the first game of the season and far to early to be writing players off. Our performance yesterday had the look of a team that doesn't quite know each other yet, we were very one dimensional and were lucky to get all three points.

Singling out single players for criticism when a team hasn't performed all that well misses the point - there is an argument to say McSheff was better than Seb yesterday and I don't see anyone writing Seb off. Sheffield United were there to not get beat yesterday they are a good championship team with a very organized defence and for 92 minutes they stifled us - they will be gutted today.

Murphy and Nafti were our two stand out players yesterday, McFadden, Carsley and Ridgewell were good but all made individual mistakes on more than one occasion. The rest were very average apart from Phillips who did what he does best.

McSheff was improving over the final third of last season, he never hides from the ball and keeps on working, I wouldn't be too surprised to see his old form again this season.

Of course he won't, His situation is very similar to that of Jon Mcarthy a few years ago. fans constantly on his back, every mistake was met with groans and verbal abuse just like McSheff is now suffering.

Maybe a liitle less criticism and more encouragement from the fans is in order.
