Yes, Nafti and Carsley are great central midfielders but they're at their best when they're playing the holding role, breaking up the play, ball winning, etc. Neither of them is capable of making a bursting run through the middle or finding that killer pass. So today the ball was either punted up to the striker or sent out wide every time. Is one of the new signings an attacking midfielder? I sure do hope so. |

Kemy Agustien is a central attacking midfielder who can play on either flank and upfront, quite a versatille player |

Carsley seemed great going upfront today, granted though Nafti cannot play a killer long through ball or anything like that, but Carsley sure can, we know what kind of passes he can do. Today it was just great defending by Sheffield, i dont think its fair to comment on what we are lacking after one game, give us two or three and if its the exact same problem then we can sort it out |

The main problem today was we did'nt get the ball to our forwards in the box. Every time we got it to them they was on the edge of the area with their backs to goal. The exception to this was Super Kev, 1st time in the box, 1st ball, back of the net, 3 pts. I thought Nafti and Carsley used the ball very well indeed, particularly in the 1st half. It goes to show what 2 players are comfortable on the ball can do. It was a shame that Seb and to an extent McSheffrey had quiet games. |

I know what you are saying and I agree a little, but I must say I thought Carsley was looking for that killer pass and I thought he worked very hard to get into the opposition area to support the front 2. It really did shock me what a box to box player he is. But yes an attacking midfielder would be good. I also think that Kemy guy is attacking player. Quincy is too I think. |

Maybe I was being a little bit harsh on Carsley, then, going on a few of the comments. The fact of the matter is, though, we lack a Petrov-type player. |

Petrov? He sits in the middle of the pitch doing sweet FA. We need a player in a similar mould to Muzzy Izzet back in his Leicester days (when he was fit). Box to box, great engine, creative and a good finisher. Agustien may well be that type of player. But today the problem wasn't the performance of the two central players, there was too much direct play towards Bent (who was often isolated due to McFadden moving around in search of the ball) and not enough advantage made of the fact that both full backs were being left alone in favour of doubling up on the wingers. |

its very hard to find that killer pass with a defence as locked down as sheffields was... i dread to think from our oppositions point of view what will happen when there defence isn't as good as sheffields and they dont have people doubled up on larsson, aswell as once our team has gelled abit more, we made some good crosses into the box, one or two of which which were just missed (bent header from mcfaddens cross) and some which where latched onto but didn't go in due to being block by a strong and packed penalty area (namely bents shot from someone elses cross - mcsheffery?) |

:applause: If we play Carsley and Nafti, we've got to attack wide. We never got to the byline enough, partly because McSheff and Seb didn't try to beat the full backs enough. Also, when our full backs got forward the attack seemed to stagnate. |

When we have Carsley and Nafti in the middle of the park, we need intelligent runs from the wingers so they can be picked out by them. I dont remember a run in behind a full back today by either Sheff or Larsson, hell, I dont remember either of them taking their man on with any success. McFadden done more in his brief left wing spell, than McSheffrey done all first half, Faddy got the ball down, gave Sun Jihai problems, because he ran at him, and didnt let him rest. Im sure Quincy will do this also, running at the full backs, giving them something to think about, but its predictable when McSheffrey plays as he always seems to cut back and then try and cross it, rather than whip it in early |

I still think we will bring in two more players to play through the middle one at the back and one to go alongside Carlsey (Watson please :D ). |

I agree Sign Ben Watson NOW :banghead: especially if the club 'cave in' and decide to sell Larsson.....a lot can happen in 3 weeks We can play Agustien on the right and Quincy on the left Midfield would be Agustien............Watson (AM)........Carsley (DM).........Quincy Back up Midfield players we'd have would be Johnson,Nafti,Mutch,Parnaby and MacSheffrey....even Jerome can play on the right and MacFadders can play left.....Plenty of options left |

Simple, just move Seb into the middle drop Nafti. Seb is defensively solid & can pick a forward pass. We didn't have width but IMO that was because the service coming from the centre was always a sideways balls to feet, not a forward pass into the channell for them to attack. |

Not sure if I should comment really as I didn't see the game (had to work) but some of my mates who saw it told me blues didn't exactly set the world on fire and they looked nothing like Championship winners today. Early days I know, but we need to stamp our authority on games. Another thing I would like to say is I had a pop at A.M. when he sign Philips saying he was passed his sell by date, glad he's proved me wrong. |

Precisely. What we needed to do yesterday was get down the wings, because Sheff Utd found it so easy to congest the centre of the park. I don't care if McSheff or Larsson loses the ball when running at players - the chances are that if you keep trying to get down the flank, you will create more chances than passing backwards or playing it into the congested centre. I agree with Mikael - Quincy will be a huge player for us this season, because he loves running at people and getting to the byline. That's what we were missing yesterday - neither McSheff or Larsson had the pace or balls to try and beat their man to break down the United defence. |

i thought 4 or 5 times we worked the ball well down our right flank and pulled their defenders about getting the player free on the edge of the area with no markers in sight, the ball was just never played and to be fair to mcsheff their right back is one of the better he will come across in the ccc. nafti saw loads of the ball and a more aggresive/attacking player would have driven at their box creating space. imo of course |

Its ok having two holding midfielders providing you have decent wingers who are creative and can make things happen when they have the ball. The trouble is, on Saturday we had one winger who is low on confidence and the other who seems to have made it clear where he stands on wanting to leave the club. I'm just glad we have Quincy and Agustien to come in. |

I thought nafti was nafti (not good enough/cant pass/runs round like a headsless chicken!).. I was disapointed when AM said he was extending his contract last season.. Put lit ike this we will have more chance winning promotion without him in the team rather than with him in it.. |

Cant believe the last two comments about Nafti, Nafti along with Carsley was a major plus point IMO from yesterday, He held the ball up well had good all round vision was always looking for the right pass, hardly put a foot wrong. nafti is just another bruce buy , ..zz.. Yawn Yawn Move on man, I'm not even gonna mention all the good things that Bruce did while he was here because unlike you I dont keep dwelling on the past. Cheap and unnecessary shot. |

agreed bruce also made some great signings, won us promotion twice, top 10 finish in the prem, btw nafti had a good game yesterday, strong on the ball, sprayed some good passes around, will be a good player for us this season. |
