Regurgitated codswallop .....count me out

This movie belongs in the 70's

Are there any screenplay writers / directors out there who can maybe think up some original / new ideas for movies ?? Pretty please.....sugar on top

I think I'll wait for the reviews.
I don't really trust trailers; they often show "all the good stuff" while the rest of the film can be rubbish.
I saw the original back in 1977 and loved it. I still watch it every few years or so. I didn't like the second one when it came out, although it grew on me after I'd seen it two or three times over the years. The third one was dross.
As regards the prequels, all I've seen of these are a few minutes here and there when they've been on telly, so I can't really judge for myself although I'm happy to accept the general view that they, too, are dross.

It's about time you got a seat booked at the Blues...and don't forget to take your little one. I'd hate to think in a couple of years time when he comes back from school and announces he supports Man Utd.

Get him down the Blues.

Whenever any new hyped films are released I nearly always end up disappointed after viewing. I did enjoy the two planet of the ape movies though. Never expected them to be that good. Il give Star Wars a go but there's no hurry

I actually enjoyed the remake of the Planet of the Apes (Tim Roth is a great UK actor) too and I thought the remake of 'The Italian Job' was a decent effort .......but usually I find remakes of old classics ultra boring and a waste of time

They recently released revamped versions of 'Vacation' (Chevy Chase car trip comedy from 83) and 'Poltergeist' (from 82) ......even two remakes of Sissy Spacek's 'Carrie'

All of them vomit inducing

Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of both sci-fi and horror films, but I'll wait for the latest Star Wars version to come around on PPV or a premium commercial free movie channel

The very first one was made in 1977 and ended up being Number 4 in the series .......the trilogy they made much later on as preludes to the first were all disappointing IMHO

Well , on a road trip yesterday with my daughter, she persuaded me to go and watch this film on the Big Screen

Not the regurgitated codswallop I had predicted

Actually it wasn't a bad effort by Lucas (merely a creative consultant now he's made a fortune selling the franchise, Abrams was the director ) , familiar faces , machines, musicians, scenery and story lines from the 1977 version

But I can comfortably state it's nowhere near as good as the original first three (or what ended up 4, 5 and 6 in the series)

Obviously special effects are a lot more dramatic but almost 40 years after the original Star Wars release that presents no surprise at all .....anyone who regularly goes to movie theatres these days will know the volume gets really cranked up in these modern times ....and the seats are a lot more 'comfy' too

I would give it 6 maybe a 7 out of 10

Good news for Star Wars cult clubs is that this was the first venture under the Disney Corp umbrella.....and they plan to make two more

News over here in America reporting that 'Star Wars The Force Awakens' is now the biggest grossing domestic movie in history

Not sure what they mean by domestic , I guess they mean USA theaters only .....Ooops , sorry , theatres

creative consultant in name only

his submitted script and ideas were all discarded, hence why the film was so good.

The prequalls which he was heavily involved in were rubbish - of the original trilogy, empire strikes back (many peoples favourite) he submitted a basic idea for and the rest was written by others.

That's it though.....the film wasn't that good .....would have been better if Lucas had directed it or had been given more of a say

Petition now by many Star Wars fans to install Lucas as director of the last one (Episode 9) ....Disney have already penciled in Trevorrow to direct it......same guy who directed the 4th Jurassic Park movie......and that was truly awful, even as bad as the third one

Agree about the prequels, they were bad however I cannot see how anyone can argue that he (Lucas) is the true Father of Star Wars..........seeing as Episode Nine will be the 'Grand Finale' , personally I think it would be fitting if GL was handed the task of writing and directing the very last one we will see .....in this Galaxy anyway

He is the creator that is all.

His role in the Star Wars franchise is overrated so those Star Wars fans calling for him to direct other films (of which there are very few, the film received race reviews across the board) need to brush up on their history.

In released chronological order

A new hope - written and directed by Lucas
Empire - written by Lawrence kasdan and Leigh bracket, directed by Irvin Kershner
Return - written by Lawrence and George and directed by Richard Marquand

Therefor of the original trilogy, widely acknowledged as much better than the prequels,

Lucas only wrote one by himself, and only directed one

He didn't even direct all of the prequels. He wanted to make a flash gordon film, couldn't get the rights so created starwars (latter named a new hope) as a one off film. The unexpected success led to more films but had had already lost interest, hence why he only wrote and directed one film himself

I think it was Dino De Laurentis who did the Flash Gordon film....1980 version

It got panned by the critics but I thought it was pretty good ....it was made in England too if I am not mistaken

Max Von Sydow ....what a superb actor , played an excellent 'Emperor Ming' .....Timmy Dalton as 'Prince Barin'......terrible 007 though :banghead: Brian Blessed , popular Brit actor played 'Vultan The Hawk Man'.....and the gorgeous Ornella Muti who played Ming's devious daughter.....this film had everything

Great soundtrack too by Queen

I still watch this film even today

Hated this film when it came out, but after seeing it a couple of times on TV / video, I finally realised that it was more or less a spoof. Have had it on DVD for quite a few years now and will usually watch it at least once or twice a year.
BTW, if you've got the 2005 Silver Anniversary edition, there 's a brilliant commentary on it by Brian Blessed. It's well worth listening to.
Regarding the Star Wars film, I'm finally going to go to see it tonight....

So, went to see this last night.

I must say that, after quite a long run of films that have disappointed over the last few years, I enjoyed this much more than I thought I would.

OK, I had a few minor quibbles but the cynic in me was pleasantly surprised.

Did anyone know that Daniel Craig has a cameo as a Stormtrooper, and apparently Simon Pegg is in there somewhere, too...
