I've only been to America once and won't be able to go again because of what long haul flights do to my back. Had a great time when I was over, though, visiting Yosemite and Sequoia National Parks. I'm not much of a one for big cities, I prefer the countryside, the same as I do over here and anywhere else I visit. I wasn't overly impressed with the American beer apart from something I think was called a 'steam beer'. I also liked some of the Mexican beer when we went over the border into Tijuana although it surprised me when I wasn't offered a glass, just a bottle. I think I'd like some of the remote places in Florida and would love to do some birdwatching and moth trapping there - my other interests. 60 seems an age ago to me now as the big 70 looms ever closer. Hope 'The Outback' is good. **thumbup |

I often recall driving all the way through Nevada from Reno down to Vegas and then cut across into California via the Death Valley desert Got to be honest I was bored ****less , just hundreds and hundreds of miles of wilderness scrub but the funny thing is when you hit the odd small town and wanted to fill up the car or grab a bite to eat there was usually a huge casino around :LMAO: .....Thanked the Heavens that the cool air conditioning in the rental car worked good as well as temps can get as high as 118 F in mid summer Didn't do the Outback after all, daughter had a college project to undertake and the wife wasn't feeling too chipper so enjoyed a long weekend just putting the feet up, watched some footy and movies and the weather has been great......low humidity and 75-80 F temperatures
West and South West coasts of Florida are good places for wild bird and other nature, Blacksmith ............lots of egrets, herons, pelicans and sea turtle nests ..........and of course alligators in just about every body of fresh water ......even man-made retention ponds and sewer ducts ......they've been known to suddenly spring out of a lake and swallow up small dogs while their owners are out walking them, ......pretty scary....I actually see more deer and raccoons in all honesty and possums and armadillos are regular roadkill , much to their peril, headlights and fast moving vehicles do not deter them from crossing busy roadways unfortunately I once rescued a huge Turtle that somehow ended up in our garden one time and had to be very cautious returning him (or her.....sorry , I ain't a vet) to the large lake just around the corner ....he weighed about 25-30 pounds at least but I was more concerned about them lurking gators just below the water level......they are extremely fast off the mark when they spring out at potential prey Deep sea fishing is a popular pastime too .....mainly for barricuda, swordfish and marlin.....a lot of grouper, sea bass and flounder are caught by the commercial fishermen in the Gulf of Mexico for the local dine out markets and of course there are the crabbing and shrimping industries .....I'm not a huge fan of shell fish though but they're very popular overall Sanibel and Captiva Islands (near Fort Myers ) , Naples and The Keys are well worth a visit and still have that tropical island feel .....not so packed or commercialised as theme park or sun soaked beach destinations such as Miami Beach, Lauderdale, Daytona or Orlando On the Keys you can do some great snorkeling Yes, most American beer gets slammed by the Brits and Europeans (some of it does taste just watery and 'orrible) but there are some good domestic beers.......Always liked Coors Banquet and Coors Lite , Rolling Rock and Samuel Adams seasonal ales All kinds of IPA and Micro beer available here now along with a wide selection of British and German beers/lagers and the major brands from Europe......Stella, Carlsberg, Peroni, Blue Moon etc Cannot stand Heineken though......never understood why it's so popular here :drink: Edited by PartisanBCFC, Apr 10 2016, 10:25 PM.

Yes, I think micro breweries sprung up some time after I visited. I love them. **thumbup |
