Birmingham City Keen On Tottenham Hotspur Defender Gareth Bale

Birmingham boss Alex McLeish is ready to make Gareth Bale one of the first signings of new owner Carson Yeung's era in a £3million deal.

McLeish has lined up a move for the Spurs defender, 20, who will be allowed to leave White Hart Lane after a poor two-year spell.

Bale, who was signed by Martin Jol for an initial £5m from Southampton, almost joined Nottingham Forest in the summer and has made only one league start this season.

McLeish has been promised £40m to spend. He will also target Sporting Gijon schemer Michel and Rangers striker Kris Boyd.

Rather negative article about Bale's talents.

Whenever I've seen Gareth - bearing in mind I've gone down to every Welsh national home game during my time in Cardiff - he's been one of the best players on the pitch.

Brilliant in dead ball situations and a superb passer of the ball, Bale would be a huge improvement on what we've already got.

I can't believe he'd only cost £3m either! I don't know how many of the 'add-ons' he has fulfilled during his time at Tottenham, but Tottenham would be making a fair loss on that price.

Another good article:

Huntelaar would be a great signing if it's true AC Milan are disenchanted with him!

Well as i said we may aswell build for next season.

Queudrue.. Contract up in the summer with cash to burn would he make the bench next season even if we offer him new deal.

Carsley....Contract up in the summer surely next season he would be past his playing days at this level, maybe a coaching role.

Phillips..... same as above.

Tiny Taylor.....Not sure he will figure next season.

Parnaby.....I think his contract is up aswell, maybe he will get new deal who knows.

McSheffrey.....Not used by McLeish Contract up would we give him new one, would he sign it to stay and barely play doubt it.

There are a few others who contracts are nearly up or 18 months left that McLeish rarely uses like Jonty.

Now with cash to spend i am not sure Vignal would be offered a deal and so Bale could be our number 1 LB. Carsley could need a replacement what about Michel, Phillips needs replacing next season why not get Boyd in for cheap. Killgallon in to replace Taylor.

So how about......

£1-1.5M + McSheffrey for Killgalon
£1-1.5M + Bent/or Phillips for Boyd
£3M for Michel
£3-4M for Bale
£3-4M for Gardener

Thats about £12M on 5 players in now to everntually be replacements for Tinty, Jonty, Phillips and Carsley.

Then Sell/Loan Bent/Tiny and Jonty for £500K each.

Then we can get the quality signings be that 1-2 Wingers and at least 1 Striker.

So next season we then only need to improve a few areas with high quality £8-10M players as the sqaud players/strength in debth is in place.

There is no chance that we will sign that many players in the window.
Both Yeung, Yu and McLeish have said they want quality not quantity.

I can't see us signing more than 3 players if I'm honest, but I'd be delirious if Huntelaar and Bale were two of them, with maybe Adam Johnson as the other.

Alarm bells are ringing regarding Huntelaar if he's fallen out of favour at Milan just shortly after a failed short (was it 6mths?) spell at Madrid. What's his damage?

I'd be quite happy with Bale as a signing, especially if we can get him at that price. Not convinced by certain tabloids' determination to keep throwing Kris Boyd's name into the mix, without quotes I have a feeling they're basing that entirely on our interest last time out.

Really lazy journalism only picking out the two players we certainly have been for before.

why did we not sign him :ph43r:

We were about to (apparently) but the Tottenham full back got himself injured and Bale was brought back in and started playing out his skin. We were just unlucky- again

Haha I remember people saying they didn't want him because he was "slow", "couldn't defend" and had that record of no league wins at Spurs for quite a while.

I'm sure McLeish would have ruined him though...
