Ahh i see. well hopefully this might speed things up abit for us then, now theyve replaced him for so cheap we could probably just give them a take it or leave it offer.

I dont see why we should be held to ransom or have to pay over the odds for players, fair enough hes got the talent, but he hasnt shown it, im sure if he was worth 12 million and had played his way to that kind of price tag Liverpool wouldnt want rid of him!

Yeah, looks like it. But you never know. Could be saying that to deter other clubs.

We'll wait and see.

It's up to Babel to instigate a move now then, unless the WC rumours are false and he's actaully quite content with sitting on the bench for the rest of his career.

It wont have gone unnoticed that Joe Hart has gone from being a young, inexperienced, second-string keeper at Man City, to being a favourite to make the plane to South Africa in the summer, by playing regularly in our side.

It wont have gone unnoticed that two Championship central defenders have stepped up to become acknowledged as one of the Premiership's best defensive pairings by playing here.

It wont have gone unnoticed that players of the class and ability of Bowyer, Ferguson and McFadden, have been able to put an underachieving past behind them and show their best since arriving at Birmingham.

And it certainly wont have escaped notice that we have at Birmingham a man who is quickly building a reputation as one of the most highly regarded managers in football today.

And we have owners who have money to spend and will spend it to get to where they want the club to be.

It strikes me that we must be one of the more attractive clubs for an ambitious footballer to join. As fans, we tend to underestimate our club. we shouldn't. We are going places and people are starting to recognise that.

Spot on Diver. We as fans really need to shake off the small club mentality that has been rammed into us over the years.

We could be massive, and its players of this calibre that help to make it that way.

I have a lot of viler pals, and even their stance towards us is changing. They are laughing a whole lot less than they used to. The link with babel has been met with silence. Rather than the snide remarks that it would have been met with this time last year.

We are a club that is seemingly on the up. We need to embrace it rather than pull against it.

Onwards and upwards I say.

Bring on the bab meister.

Good, that was a close one.

There are far better ways of spending 10m pounds than on Ryan Babel.

hold up there blues i hear 9million rejected, they want 12 , too much for any one player, we need 2 for that, we need about 5-6 players to give strength and depth, 9 would be more like 12 with all the fees

That was around yesterday.

The jist of everything is :

Blues want Ryan Babel from Liverpool.

Ryan Babel is willing to leave Liverpool for Blues, if thats what Liverpool want.

Liverpool dont want to sell him.

We dont have to sign him so I wouldnt get railroaded. maybe 9.5 to sweeten the deal. But that is there lot. He isnt playing regular 1st team football so there is no reason why we should break into double figures for him.

If Eck does seriously see Babel as being part of the club's future then probably better to hold out until the season's end........I don't think Liverpool will make the top 4, their financial situation will make the banks 'twitchy' without the euro championship money and Liverpool will be forced to sell players cut priced to service their debts......in fact I can see them losing Torres and Gerard because of it!

Babel can't afford to wait until the end of the season though. Bert van Marwijk has told him that he won't be going to South Africa unless he plays regular football in the second half of the season. according to Voetbal International a deal could be done for around €12 million. Which I think is about £10.5 million.

Yeah, which is why the player himself may actually force Liverpool to accept the amount offered, let's face it Liverpool are being unrealistic trying to get all of their money back on him......so far we've only heard via his agent that he would be interested but it only needs him to come out and make the right noises (remember Darren Bent's rant on twitter about Spurs pricing him out of a move and then lo and behold he gets it!).

Babel will either end up with a foreign club paying up (which I can't see happening) or he'll start making noises in Liverpool which make it almost impossible for them to keep hold of him (they don't want an upset player possibly lowering the dressing room morale, which is supposed to be a bit questionable already!).

If neither of these things happen and Liverpool can't see sense then we wait, leave a player becoming increasingly frustrated and unsettled at Liverpool and then apologise to him for his previous clubs reluctance to think of the players ambitions (bit of cuddly stuff to make him feel wanted) if/when we do get him.

Think Babel will not be long before he starts trying to take charge of his situation though.

AM been told Babel not for sale, soo he wont be coming.

I believe this is merely a ploy to make AMc think 'Hold on I better up my bid if I want him', its just pure mind-games, but if they want money then in the latter stages of january when no-one is prepared to offer the money they want for him they will lower their guard and sell up for what they can get IMO...

So far weve offered 9mil, then upped it to 10mil ... Rafa is being greedy by the sound of it, from what I can understand he wants 12mil for him, and they only paid 11.5 for him from Ajax. so it seems abit stupid to expect us to pay more then that...

If Mcleish wants him enough and is definately certain he can take the team forward then I imagine a waiting-game will help his chances of luring him here and getting Benitez to sell...

The reason Gijon have accepted the bid is because they wanted to stall the transfer and wait to get a replacement, but Mcleish said either accept the bid or we will go after alternate targets, ie Craig Gardner .. I think he intended to do a similar trick here and was planning on throwing the gauntlet to Rafa by saying either sell up for 10mil or we'll spend our money elsewhere on McGeady, but now that deal has been blown out the water im not sure how he will react..

But I have every confidence if Big Eck wants him enough then he'll get him...

Eck is shrewd.

Rafa knows there is pressure on him to sell if he wants to buy, and he knows that.

If a player comes up that Rafa wants, im sure he'll be straight on the phone to McLeish asking if he still wants to sign Babel.

Just leave the offer in there for him, and release something to the press saying how we're negotiating with Wigan over N'Zogbia... im sure Rafa will soon start sweating.

Shoul'nt that say Liverpool star would welcome move from Liverpol, and would consider a move to Birmingham City providing the circumstances were right.

Yeah thats what im getting at mate...

Weve seen how Eck can get his man if he signs Michel after all this time, with funding and backing from the board, if Mcleish wants Babel enough then I have more then enough confidence in him to get his signature

Hmm ... jury's out on Babel. He's not taken his chances when he's had them at Liverpool - and he's had plenty -

3 Starts
7 Subs

2 Goals 1 assist in the Premier.

2 appearnces in the Carling.

Plenty of chances ?

Out of 20 matches so far in the Prem, plus all the European and Cup matches.

3 starts ?

:D
