According to Mirror Football Alex Mc'Leish has uped his bid for Liverpool's Ryan Babel to £10m.

I said he should sign him up for anything between £8m and £11.25m!

In the source below there's also a brilliant sub-link report by Martin Lipton critisizing Rafa's terrible transfer policy in management at Anfield.  Some good thoughts from Babel's agent as well, Mc'Leish could certainly recover the best out of this young dynamic star winger!  **thumbup

More facts here than Smoke I think!   :applause:

The press printed that the Babel deal to Blues was off on 5/01/10 so a second bid could have followed soon after! see article below:

Another point worthy of note for this alleged second bid of £10m to Liverpool for Ryan Babel, is the fact that after Friday's Freeview post (8 Dec)on bcfc.com introduced Michel and Alex Mc'Leish confirmed the knock back of Celtic by saying Aiden Mc'Gready "was not for sale", he pointedly avioded any such comment for Ryan Babel, which profoundly suggests that the ball was still in the Anfield court after they had rejected our £9m offer (5 Dec)!

What was that about '........the fat lady sings' ?

How Liverpool cannot develop the dynamism of the Striker/Winger at Anfield is quite simply beyond me and any other non-brain dead person with an interest in the young Dutch lad! :banghead: :banghead:

For God sake Alex pay Rafa the money he needs not to loose face and take this gem dull by the scoucers and polish him into the diamond (as we know you can!) **thumbup to make him a Star at St. Andrews and develop him beyond his £11.25m Ajax evaluation because Benitez quite simply can't do it! Did Rafa tell Blues that Babel "wasn't for sale"? Babel, (who hardly ever gets a start) is not for sale, but Gerrard and Torres (their best two players) could possibly be for sale?

Its all tosh, I guarantee they would sell for 11.5 mil the same they paid for him so it cant be held against Rafa or be known as one of his 'money wasting failures'...

I think he has got a cheek because he cant justify selling him for that much, he aint in form, he aint getting regular football and he aint doing a fat lot to light up the Premier League right now is he when he features, so I think 10million was abit much, but now he wants more I say thats stupidness...

Near the end of the window if no interest has been shown he will be straight on the phone to Mcleish and his staff but it may be too late by then, whoever is advising Rafa about this saga needs the sack, they need to get what they can for Babel and 10mil is more then enough!

ALBION’S flying Dutchman Gianni Zuiverloon would love to see best mate Ryan Babel join him in Birmingham.

But the Baggies right-back selflessly insists that regular first-team football, and not a friendly reunion, is the top priority for his close pal.

Albion’s neighbours Blues flexed their new-found financial muscle last week with several bids for big name players, including Liverpool winger Babel.  And that raised the eyebrows of Zuiverloon, who grew up with the out-of-favour Anfield man before playing in the same Holland Under-21 side.

Blues’ £9 million offer for Babel was rejected by the Reds and Alex McLeish has been told that the 23-year-old is not for sale.  However, given the unpredictable nature of the January transfer window, the fact that Babel isn’t getting much game time and is eager to play ahead of this summer’s World Cup, an increased bid may tempt Liverpool to sell.

Zuiverloon would love nothing more than to see Blues bring Babel to St Andrew’s and for his chum to join him in the second city.

But he’d happily see him stay at Liverpool, or head elsewhere, if it meant that the former Ajax star was playing regularly.

“Would I like to see Ryan move down here? Well I’d love for him to play, that’s the big part,” said Zuiverloon. “He needs to play so it doesn’t matter where it is.

“If he goes to Birmingham City then it’s even better for him and for me too as then we could do stuff together in Birmingham.

“But he needs to play and that’s the most important thing for him.

“I haven’t spoken to him in a week but normally I speak to him most days.”

Whether or not Babel becomes a Brum resident, Zuiverloon is settled in the West Midlands and fully focused on helping lead Albion back to the Premier League.

Having arrived from Heerenveen in July 2008, last season’s relegation has seen Zuiverloon thrust into his first experience of English football’s fiercely competitive second-tier.

And the Rotterdam-born 23-year-old is convinced that the change of surroundings has already made him a better player.

“The Championship is different compared to the Premier League, the tempo is much higher and it’s a little bit more physical than the Premier League, there’s more long balls so it is different but it’s alright.

“I definitely think that it has made me into a better player, I’ve learned a lot more now and I am used to playing against different styles, different players and different teams. So it has certainly made me a better player than I was.

“It is a more physical game in this league because you don’t have so much time on the ball.

“I don’t know if it’s made me into a tougher player because I have less yellow cards than last year, so I still think I’m the same in that respect.”

As well as the target of immediate promotion, Feyenoord-groomed Zuiverloon has his own personal record that he’s hoping to topple this season.

The versatile defender has never scored more than two goals in a campaign, the tally that he currently sits on.

Zuiverloon has found the net against Watford and Scunthorpe so far this season, to equal the return he got for Heerenveen during the 2007-08 campaign in Holland.

And while scoring is not the be all and end all for him, a licence to roam forward under Robert Di Matteo has given him an appetite to break his own record.

“Goals aren’t really a part of my game, I’d be more happy with having more clean sheets than having, say, ten goals,” he added.

“But I think there’s now an opportunity to score goals as I’m allowed to get forward more this season so I suppose scoring goals has become a bit more of a part of my game.

“I’ve never scored more than twice, two seasons ago I also scored two goals in a season. I hope to score more this year and break my own record.

“Overall I’m quite happy with how I’m doing and how the team are doing so far.”

Quite right

Liverpool will sell their prize assets Gerrard and Torres if silly money came in

Perfect time to try and get Babel

Liverpool are in an extreme financial abyss at the moment.......Rafa just cannot bring himself to face the hard reality

Plus more importantly he doesn't run Liverpool Football Club.....although I get the impression that he thinks he does

Looking on the Liverpool forum its seem' the scouser,s are just as split as we are with Babel.

A lot are saying get rid.

Some are saying keep him as he will come good if Rafa gives him a run.

Many are saying Rafa will not sell because he knows he will not get the money and that it will go to paying off some of the debt.

Let,s hope the owner's start putting the pressure on soon. IMO we should wait for a week or two and see what happens.

Hmm ... jury's out on Babel. He's not taken his chances when he's had them at Liverpool - and he's had plenty -

3 Starts
7 Subs

2 Goals 1 assist in the Premier.

2 appearnces in the Carling.

Plenty of chances ?

Out of 20 matches so far in the Prem, plus all the European and Cup matches.

3 starts ?

:D

Quite Right! **thumbup

And then there's the goal ratio against minutes actually played in those 20 games including when Babel himself has been subbed!

I don't remember our supporter slagging off Kevin Phillips for failing to score when he was coming on for his 20 minute sub stints!

he said he wants to stay at liverpool

that's not what his agent said, oh well, until it happens we will never know.

Rafa carpeted Babel and asked him if he wanted to succeed at Liverpool which the player has never denied (Benitez even stated this on camera). RB said yes and that was all Rafa needed to turn down the offer of £9m from Blues so he could hold out for more money! Its a face saving exercise! :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Not for Definite, as Maxi Rodriguez is a right-winger and Babel can still play on the Left.

Sky Sports put the same question as to what impact this aquisition at Anfield would have on Babel. The Rafagaffa is under pressure to reduce the clubs debts, and I think the Sky presenter was inferring to a possible release of Ryan babel to recoop his outlay!

Don't count on Raffa doing the right thing! but you may gross your fingers! **thumbup

Youd have to think they might sell him now.

Yeah Maxi is a right winger, but thats where benayoun or kuyt play.

So if there gona play Maxi then Benayoun will definately move to the left, thus moving Babel further down the pecking order.

I'm not sure that Babel wants to come to Birmingham.

Started at Ajax then moved to Liverpool. Both Champions League teams and I think he would rather go back to a Big club in Holland or to a club such as Spurs,Villa or Man City.

I hope that I'm Wrong

He would be a superb signing.

There was also talk of Babel being used as a makeweight in a deal to get Kenwyne Jones, I'm sure Big Eck is monitoring the situation. I wonder if managers actually pick up the phone and speak to each other or if it is all done by Chief Execs now?

Has anybody heard Janko's name mentioned recently? He was discussed a few weeks ago but I've not heard anything since, he looked an ideal player for us and the right sort of "small step" that Eck has mentioned.

Opinions are split amongst the scoucers more like 50/50 I've gone through their posts! Most of the grippers cannot forgive him for saying he wanted to leave Anfield if he continued to be sidelined, and many just latch on to that mood in subsequent days, but the lad had been told that if he wasn't selected to play he would not be called up for the World Cup.

Now that the Rafagaffa has been given the green light to replace him he can now do his job instead of worrying about how he can save face!

The sooner Ryan Babel is away from Anfield the better it will be for him and any team that acquires him! **thumbup

Every Liverpool fan I've spoke to has spoken about Babel's potential. They believe he's never reached his potential - not that's he's useless. They think he's very inconsistent.

That's where playing games helps young players - which is what he'd do here. Remember, he's never started consecutive Premier League games for the Scousers.

This link seems to suggest that we had a £10million bid accepted by Liverpool, after they refused the £9million bid. However, Babel did not want to move to blues. Tatts also suggested that Babel might not be keen on a move to St. Andrews.

It does suggest we are in for Pav though **thumbup

The Mirror, just like the SUn etc know nothing.

Until I hear Tatts say it officially/McLeish or someone to do with the club, I'll wait and see.
