Colin Tattum in what looks like a very informed report of Big Eck's acquisition of Craig Gardner for £3.5m from Villa also states that 'McLeish retains an interest in Liverpool forward Ryan Babel...', and that 'Sunderland are also keen and Blues could make contact with the Reds again to see how the lands lies'.

I don't believe considering the targets that either of the Raffagaffa's two attempts to use Babel in part exchange to secure a top striker is gonna happen in this window, so the Ryan Babel saga (whose recent rebuff of Blues was about him wanting to stay at Anfield after the Raffagaffa had influenced the lad to that resolve with a promise to develop him at Liverpool), may in the end come down to a bid war between Alex Mc'Leish and his mate Steve Bruce! :LMAO:

this is reported on the BBC rumours site this morning.

Netherlands striker Ryan Babel will be swiftly shipped out of Liverpool after a row with manager Rafa Benitez sealed his fate and cost him a week's wages.

here's a link to the Daily Mirror story... http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Liver...icle291655.html

just above this story is also a story (Daily Mail i think) that reports that Liverpool are about to take Kenwyn Jones on loan. it appears that if Babel is to leave Liverpool then the choice is between us and Sunderland but i guess the Kenwyn Jones part of the equation doesn't favour us.

I Don't blame Babel for rejecting the Raffagaffa's attempts to cash in on the value of the Dutch international after the recent betrayals of the Kop boss when he promised to work with the lad for a future at Anfield which effectively spannered any prospect of a transfer to Blues in the first bid Mc'Leish made.

We cannot blame Babel for his personal retort that he would not be going to Birmingham following the re-newed speculation after Big Eck had increased his initial offer with a second bid, when the Raffagaffa had lied to him about having a future at Anfield. The Raffagaafa wanted that money (alleged £10m) and this is the reason the Anfield boss failed to select Babel for Stoke which was an outrageous and petulent decision of Benitez considering the fact that he had his three principal strikers out injured! :banghead:

The Sunderland interest has surfaced because the inconstant Benitez had offered Babel (and a few Mil) in a swop deal to Steve Bruce and another Eurpoean club in an attempt to secure their marquee strikers in this January transfer window. As I have posted before, there is little prospect of such a deal before the summer with either club, but it now appears that Bruce who certainly does not want to commit himself to a release of Kenwyn Jones this season has gone back to Anfield with a loan alternative (whether involving Babel or otherwise - it's a bit sketchy), but Bruce knows that his mate and good neighbour Mc'Leish is hoping to secure and develop the marquee Anfield striker at St. Andrews. Rraffa's refusal to take any calls from Babel's agent reflects the Raffagaffa's desperation in a sinking ship because blame for the 1-1 draw with Stoke must at least in part be placed at his door. :LMAO:

I do not believe that the ££££'s prospect of a Kenwyn Jones loan to Anfield has any bearing on the transfer of Babel (unless he was to go on loan to Sunderland which I doubt) but the Punch and Judy show at Anfield has brought another club into the mix, most notable Galatasaray who as already stated do not want to release their marquee striker until the summer!

P.S. a SSN report says that Bruce has re-buffed a loan of Jones to Anfield! The best and most immediate prospect for Ryan Babel remains with Alex Mc'Leish at Biirmingham City who can bring out the best in the Dutch international who's faith in his undoubted footballing skills are recognised in other european havens! :applause:

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport...S&ATTR=Football

From the recent noises from St. Andrews (see my post on the 'Who are the planned marquee signings' thread, it seems that Alex Mc'Leish is already on the case, and we may expect some conversations with Babel's agent in the near future (who after all was the man who said Babel was interested with the prospect of moving to Birmingham) on condition that the Dutch international would be played to secure his place in the World Cup. **thumbup

More power to the Raffagaffa! His antics may push Babel into our lap! :LMAO:

Well its down to Babel if he would come here as its likely Babel will be gone this month a £10M offer would get him, maybe less if he has not moved before the deadline i feel he will be shipped out.

But Sunderland would also offer him a good chance to make a name for himself.

So far Sunderland are the better prostpect, but if we could relay Yeungs future plans then i think in 3 years we would be a decent sized club who should fill 40'000 each week provided we had the capacity.

I have posted here a couple of weeks ago and I still can't reveal my source but I know Babel is willing to come to Blues and a deal has all but been agreed with his agent. I am as confident as it is possible to be that Babel will be a blues player by the end of the month unless we are outbid by another club and tbh i think that is unlikely.

McLeish has gone back with an improved package of personal terms worth an extra £10,000-a-week - and a guarantee that he will be played as a
centre-forward.

Babel is desperate to get regular games in the Premier League to safeguard his place in the Dutch World Cup squad and was worried a move to Birmingham would not help his career if he was being played out of position.

Would love a player like babel here.
He has all the potential in the world and needs to be at a team like us to full fit it. Liverpool don't play him, the fans don't support him. In holland he was called their Wayne Rooney. We could come to us and be a real fans favorite! Ok ok he may jump out of tackles but that doesn't make him a bad player! Mcfadden ducks out of big tackles... I think players with alot of skill & technicle ability do duck the big challenges!? He would be an out standing signing and a much welcomed adition to the squad! 81ues

With Faddy & Seb the current choice wingers I suppose I could see the logic in this. That said, going all out on a winger-come-striker who doesn't really fit the bill in terms of what we crave up front does seem a little bewildering.

He would become an important asset, no doubt but I'm not so sure he's the most ideal double-figure marquee signing when it's predominantly height and goals we are seeking to endeavour.

I would argue that if they have gone in with another offer, that they must have received some encouragement from somewhere. No club would make 3 offers if they thought they had no chance of getting the player.

Rafael Benítez's strained relationship with Ryan Babel deteriorated further yesterday when the Liverpool forward left the club's Melwood training ground without permission after a misunderstanding over his Anfield future.

The Dutch international was called into the manager's office yesterday morning, having been omitted from the squad that drew at Stoke City on Saturday and offered to Sunderland in exchange for the striker Kenwyne Jones. Steve Bruce, the Sunderland manager, was not receptive to the proposal but Benítez may return with a cash bid for Jones should he manage to sell Babel before the close of the transfer window.

After the meeting with Benítez, Babel drove away from Melwood under the impression that he was not wanted at training. It took a phone call from a member of the Liverpool back-room team to inform the player that was not the case. He eventually returned to the training ground.

I would argue that if they have gone in with another offer, that they must have received some encouragement from somewhere. No club would make 3 offers if they thought they had no chance of getting the player.

The goal.com report states only that 'recent reports suggested...' and that offers and terms from Birmingham '...will likely be rejected' and this speculation does not take into account the promises and betrayals of Ryan Babel in the Punch and Judy show at Anfield by Raffa Benitez. The Raffagaffa is squirming on the shifting sands of publicity at Anfield at the moment, and this is betrayed in his recent statement concerning the Babel saga when he said:

"He was working and he was on the bench and he played against Reading. After this game I decided he would not be on the bench and that is it. If Ryan trains hard and is ready to play he will be available. If not, he won't be available."

The Anfield boss is trying to suggest here that the recent episode of Ryan Babel leaving the training ground and returning after he had received a phone call telling him that he was wanted at Anfield was a confusion. But what the Raffagaffa left out was that after Babel had rejected his intention to exchange him for marquee swop deals at either Sunderland or Galatasaray, he retorted to Babel that he would have to work hard in training even to be considered for a place in the first team. Receiving this as a firm rejection, it was only then that Babel left the Anfield training ground only to be called back.

Now that Mc'Leish has gone in with a third offer for an improved package of personal terms worth an extra £10,000-a-week - and a guarantee that he will be played as a centre-forward if the Dutch international petulently rejects a move to Blues again after Big Eck and the first team have returned from Malta, then I think Mc'Leish would and should wash his hands of the whole business surrounding Babel in the Punch and Judy show from Anfield!

He seems more interested in his "Vanilla ice" type music career than he does in football. The more i see of him the more i think we are doing Liverpool a big favor. His stats do not point at the tall goal scoring player we need. It just says to me that he is happy to warm the bench at liverpool and pick his wages up, if he was an international quality player he would want to play every minute. No other player of his stock spends so much time on the bench? He also has never scored for the dutch it would appear?? He seems like a playboy who cant play imo.

I know what you mean Ian!

I'm growing a bit tried of his antics at Anfield myself and while I am certain that the Raffagaffa is behind most of the recent problems Mc'Leish has had in bringing the striker to Blues, there must be some reason for the levels of dissention against him at Anfield and the amount of time he has spent on the bench in the last two seasons!

The stats source you use for Babel are not truely representative as the stats below, although even there his goal scoring capacity throughout his career remains questionable against our particular needs at present!

However I remain convinced (as so does Mc'Leish it seems) that Babel has a particular style of play and footballing skills that could flower into something quite special at St. Andrews under the guidance of Big Eck and the manager clearly has something particular in mind for Babel especially now after he has offered an extra £10,000 p.w. to the Dutch international and the guarantee of a playing role as a centre-forward...?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ryan_Babel

I think we must defer to the expertise and player manager skills of Alex Mc'Leish for it takes a genius to achieve what he has to date, with both inexperienced players from the lower divisions and the experienced hands who many would say (as many of us did) are past their sell by date!

Considering the way Ryan Babel can negociate and 'terrorise defenders in the Premier League' (Kenny Dalglish), and strike on goal, Mc'Leish may see him playing as the forward in a 4-5-1 formation with five dynamic striking midfielder behind him, or otherwise lynched slightly forward with Jerome on his left and Benitez on his right in a 4-3-3 formation. In such a role I think Ryan Babel could achieve a 1-2 goal ratio with Big Eck and our squad behing him. **thumbup

But if the Dutch international wants such success in the Premier League then its make your mind up time for D J Babel.

Encouraging signs as reported by The Times

Quote:

Birmingham City are in talks to sign Maxi López, the FC Moscow forward who has been on loan at Grêmio in Brazil. The former Argentina Under-21 player has an Italian passport. Birmingham are also encouraged that Ryan Babel is understood to be willing to move to the club from Liverpool. The winger was offered as part of a swap deal for Kenwyne Jones, the forward, to Sunderland, but the deal has been rejected.

This is great news! :applause:

The stats for the Argentine striker are great and in the vid below the 6' 2" 25 year old is good in the air with his head and he seems a tenacious tackler of opposition players and it seems that the extra Mc'Leish offered in personal terms to Ryan Babel (now free of the Punch and Judy show at Anfield) has been enough for the Dutch international to move to Birmingham! :applause:

Read the Times report yourself guys!

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/foo...icle6992966.ece

You'll find it half way down an article detailing collective transfer news together with an independent comment that although the poster does not consider him on the same level as Maxi Topez, Babel would do well under a manager who appreciates him!

We all know that Mc'Leish is resolved to bring Marquee Players to St. Andrews but he has also voiced concerns on how to persuade them to come to Blues! Every Marquee Player worth his salt wants to play in the Champions League so accordingly all are prepared to think that a transfer into the top four in England is good for their careers. Ryan Babel is such a Marquee Player but he is a star that has been dimmed by the treatment he has received by one of the top four and therefore I think he is not only the most likely one to come to Blues but also he is the perfect Marquee Player to stay at St. Andrews having had his wings clipped by one of the alleged best teams in the Premier League!

MO'N has been knocking on the door of the top flight for three years now yet with a game in hand over Liverpool after tonight we are pressing hard on their heels and this has taken Alex Mc'Leish six months to achieve what the Vile have over three consecutive Premier League seasons!

Big Eck has exceeded all my expectations to put us WHERE WE ARE RIGHT NOW! :dancer:
