From what i've heard (i know you should take all stories with a pinch of salt) i wouldn't touch him as it sounds like we'll be a 'last resort' option for him if nobody else comes in for him.

i agree, his temperament seems questionable but his talent is not in question, maybe big eck can be the manager to get the best out of him

Liverpool midfielder Ryan Babel is set to perform a u-turn and agree to a £9m move to Birmingham after initially rejecting a move to St Andrews.

why dont you like it. He has seen were going forward and he wants in. I know he wasnt keen on the move but he has got loads to prove in this league and players with his skill dont come too often. If he puts the work in which i think big eck will get out of him he will be a great signing

Liverpool winger Ryan Babel's agent claims his client could yet seal a move to Birmingham City.
The Blues lodged a big-money bid with their Premier League rivals for the Dutch international earlier this month.
However, the £9million offer was rejected amid claims that Babel himself had shunned the approach.
But now it seems the 23-year-old, who has attracted attention from a number of clubs on the continent, is now ready to consider a switch to St Andrews after yet another spat with manager Rafa Benietz.
His agent Winnie Haatrecht confirmed that Babel is now thinking over Birmingham's offer.
"Birmingham is still a possibility," he told The Sun.
"It would be simpler for Ryan to continue in the Premier League, a competition he knows well.
"We're actually studying an offer."

Most Liverpool fans can't stand him, but are fearful that he'll be world-class elsewhere. Given Rafa's man-management, I'd be up for giving him a chance.

I give it about two more posts before some board Nazi says "Why isn't this in transfer rumours?" btw.

i think we have to trust the manager with this. he's bought in players who many on here have not wanted and shown us that with successful man-management and a great team ethic these players can give Birmingham great performances.

if he's spending £9m on a person then he's done his due diligence and obviously wants the player and i'm sure the weight of expectancy is weighing on his mind enough to ensure he does his best to make the right choices for our club.

trust the manager he's proved many wrong so far! :bluzz:

I refuse to believe that The Sun's finest would cut corners for an exclusive.

Saying that, the inclusion of quotes is promising.

I don't like it that much either.

Only 2 weeks ago it was a total rejection and as his agent has had no success elsewhere all of sudden he wants to come.
He has an attitude problem - not very good for the "dressing room".
He's in it for the money - again no good for team spirit.
Attitude problem + only in it for the money, sounds familiar?...Marcus Bent.

To change the subject but in response to some posts in this thread - why do folk ridicule the Sun? Football is what attracts many of it's readers to the paper and consequently the paper invests in thay part of the paper. The football writers and football journos are no mugs on that paper. The rest of the paper maybe rubbish but not the back pages.

I'll quite happily pick up the Sun for the sake of the back pages - it's a decent enough bite-sized read - but I won't put too much stock in rumours printed by any national tabloid unless accompanied with definitive quotes attributed to someone key to the deal.

Regarding Babel, it sounds as though there has been some inconsistency regarding his future at Liverpool as each day brings new reports of him either making up or falling out with Benitez. Saying that, I'd be more inclined to believe that the papers are struggling to make up their mind rather than the player himself.

not sure how true it is, but seems like he has a terrible attitude, one ex-liverpool player (cant remember who) said in the paper about how he just wont get his head down and train hard, hes always complaining.

doesnt seem a "team spirit" player that has got us to where we are now

the same accusation might also have been levelled at Lee Bowyer at one time and look at him now, every inch the model professional.

i still say, if Alex wants him then there's good reason.

I'm tired of trying to expose the history of the Punch and Judy show between Babel and Raffa Benitez at Anfield to the posters on this thread for clarification of the saga, perhaps you all believe I'm an undercover agent secretly working for the Sun? but at the risk of repeating myself again (Oh no not not again!), here are the main points as concise as I can relate them!

1. £9m bid of Mc'Leish for the marquee Dutch international Babel - Agent says the playeris interested in a possible move to Blues!

2. Raffagaffa carpets Babel to determine whether the Dutch international wants a future at Anfield, Babel says he does so Benitez tells him he will work with him so he may secure a regular place in the first team to secure a place in the Netherlands World Cup Squad. Accodingly, Babel rebuffs the £9m offer from Blues.

3. Babel used as sub against Reading - second bid from Mc'Leish at £10m - the Raffagaffa with three injuries from the Reading game considers to propect but Babel makes a statement that he will not move to Birmingham in view of Raffa's earier assurances.

4. Benitez incensed by this, outrageously drops Babel from the subs bench depite his injury problems and Babel twitters his astonishment. The Raffagaffa resolves himself to arrange a swop deal involving Babel to secure a marquee striker from either Sunderland os Galatasaray.

5. Babel again carpeted by Raffa over the Twitter episode and to present the prospect of an exchange of players with Sunderland, Babel rebuffs a move to the Wearside, so Benitez retorts that the Dutch international will have to work hard even to be considered for a first team place! Babel beleiving he is not wanted at Anfield leaves the training seesion at Anfield only to be called back by phone with further assurances!

6. Babel dropped against Stoke - result 1-1 - Mc'leish offers Babel a further £10,000 in personal terms + a guarantee of regular play as a Centre Forward for Birmingham just prior to the trip to Malta!

7. Babel and his Agent confirm that the Dutch international would move to Blues and are currently considering the deal, and in this Babel is subsequently reported to be doing a U-turn by the press!

The Raffagaffa has been accused in the press of consistently demotivating Babel down the last two seasons which has affected his performance as a sub after a brilliant first season at Anfield. Next episode shall be determined by Mc'leish following his and the squads return from Malta today!

Not at all Pal! :)

There's still a lot of confusion about Babel about his profesional ethics (which I'm trying to clear up for those still at sea) who I believe could be brilliant at Blues under Mc'Leish's player management! :applause:
