To be fair to bnm, Holland were pretty rubbish against Hungary on saturday! Could'nt even keep a clean sheet ;)

Plus a truly awful 18 game unbeaten run. Rubbish!

dutch got to two wcf so not bad for such a small nation.
kro

Totally agree. For 16m people - one fifth of our population - to be so much better than us at football, we seriously need to review our system all the way up from the grassroots.

Clever people, though, the Dutch. Massive amount of respect for their team, but not so much their laissez faire political culture.

The Netherlands have a great team, the home of football, or 'Total football' as they like to call it.

Ive heard it referred to as 'Orange football' as well.

How anyone can refer to their team as poor is madness. Theyre like 4th in the Fifa World Rankings, and not far at all from 3rd place Portugal.

They always get over-looked in competitions but they have an amazing team, some of their football is a joy to watch, they have two great CMs and a few top quality wingers, they are good enough to break down any team.

If they get Robben back to fitness at a good time then I wouldnt be too surprised to see them make the final.

And just for the record, Babel is in the squad.

I think Babel is an excellent player - pacy, young, room to improve.

I hope we sign him.

And Holland won all ten qualifiers - only 100% record going into the world cup.

i agree about robben, if he is fit...big if....they have a team capable of winning it.

He and the dutch team are rubbish, I would not pay 5million for him let alone 8/10million. I would rather we pay 10/12million for the Zog, 10 times the player. and this is not debatable.

How do you explain that N'Zogbia can't get into an arguably worse French team?

N'Zogbia has qualified to play for England. I'd expect him to be in the Euro squads later in the year.

Yeah, I was well pleased with that. Perfect player to succeed Joe Cole.

Capello wont play N'Zogbia.

He already ruled out any chance of Almunia playing for England when the press were clamouring for him to, saying that he's "Spanish, and not English".

Just like im sure he'll say N'Zogbia is "French and not English" and wont consider him.

/offtopic its pretty obvious why they keep producing so many high quality players, because they invest so much in their academy's and facilities for young players, year in year out, if you go and visit holland, instead of just having a standard field in the middle of nowhere with a bog standard dugout, they'll have about 1-2 astro turfs with changing rooms for all the players.

The thing about Babel is that he's primarily a central striker, that's where he played throughout his time in the Ajax academy. His finishing, and his speed were considered to be his key assets. (He comes from an athletic family, his sister is (or perhaps was) the Dutch 400m record holder.)

For Benitez to stick him out on the left wing and then pronounce him a disappointment, entirely misses the point.

Finally someone understands. This talk of buying Babel and turning him into a winger is ludicrous. The guy is a striker and would not come here to play on the right / left wing.

I think this babel story won't come to anything. as I remember from January AM was hoping to bring babel in for a striker role and not for the wing.

As we have zigic I can't see him spending that amount on another striker.
