That article is from last week when N'Zogbia handed in transfer request

No bluebel its a Sky Sports update last Friday with the additional info that:

The Reds are ready to offload the former Ajax ace so that they can fund some of their own signings before the close of the transfer window! **thumbup

I honestly don't think he'd want to come to Blues. I'm an optimist but also a realist - I reckon he'd rather sit on the bench for the 'dippers than come here. Just a hunch...

Here we go again! :banghead:

The German giants Wolfsburg close to £9m bid for Ryan Babel, who according to the Mirror pundits is wanted by McClaren’s wealthy club for their Europa League campaign and talks between the clubs were at an advanced stage on Monday.

http://www.goal.com/en/news/9/england/2010...ol-striker-ryan

Will we get into a bidding war with Wolfsburg for this flexible dynamic right footed Left winger...? I doubt it! :(

He was always a better option for us than the blunderland desposed "Zog on the Tyne" IMO! who with the right management could recapture the former brilliance he had before the Scoucer dipper's ruined the talent as the video below amply demonstrates!

This is Ryan Babel

Other than a Sky Sports.Com online article, with no substance, quotes or direct proof to us going in for him... there has been nothing suggesting we're even tracking Babel anymore anyway.

Wolfsburg's former England boss Steve McClaren is set to pip Birmingham to the signing of Liverpool winger Ryan Babel.

The 22-year-old Dutch forward has failed to live up to the £14 million price-tag which former Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez paid out for him in summer 2007. And, with Babel clearly not a part of new Reds boss Roy Hodgson's plans at Anfield, it is certain that he will be sold before the transfer window shuts on August 31.
Blues chief Alex McLeish was thought to be pondering a swoop for the player to bolster his squad at St Andrews for this season. However, 2009 Bundesliga champions Wolfsburg, who McClaren took over at this summer, are leading the chase for Babel and are set to snap him up for around £8 million.

perhaps if that bloke did something decisive instead of pondering then perhaps we'd have more of our targets by now :banghead:

no hootie you're right but it's been a frustrating summer and the word pondering seems to suit McLeish up. that's in my opinion of course... i'm not sure he's good enough, or a big enough draw, to go after the type of player we need to move us to the next level.

i just think that - as it stands - the club has lost some of it's momentum. a fantastic season - the best for many a year, new owners' with something to prove, a great couple of players in Foster and Zigic, all the promises of more to come but it seems to have fizzled out to the same old, same old...

sorry but i think i'm entitled to a dig just as you're entitled not to dig.

i've seen Blues in this apathetic mode before... all huff and puff but no end product. sorry but that's how i feel - i cannot get excited about a good young prospect in Derbyshire whilst i'm still waiting for the club to provide what we were told Chucho couldn't.

it's not me who's made the promises MF, it's the club - both the board and the manager. we've not really moved forward have we now? i'm not saying that Zigic, Foster and others aren't decent signings but they're certainly not what we were promised and it looks as thought the cupboard's almost bear, apart from loan signings again...

i think it's another missed opportunity that's all and it disappoints me.

you saw what Pav did for Spurs last night? can you honestly tell me he wouldn't have been worth another £2m on top of our offer? yes Spurs we're trying it on but they could do, they have the player - it's a sellers market! it's that last push that we lack and it was the owners who said they'd put up the money if the right player came along. does Pav/Babel/N'Zog not fit that bill?

We went in for N'Zogbia with an £8m bid last January offering Wigan a £2m markup on what they paid for him from Newcastle (Cheakout the OP in the Charles N'Zogbia thread!)

As far as I am aware no higher bid has ever been made since Whelan put his rediculous £15m valuation on the Zog in that window as reported by the Birmingham Evening Mail!

No, we went in with £6m this summer (wrongly reported by Sky Sports to be an £8m bid) on 17th May.

SkySports.Com - 17th May Article - N'Zogbia First Bid

Then we went back in with an improved bid of £8m... which is our last bid made on him... dated 21st May.

SkySports.Com - 21st May Article - N'Zogbia Second Bid

Martinez then come out and issued a hands off warning on the same date, 21st May, in response to our second bid..

SkySports.Com - 21st May Article - Martinez issues hands off warning

With no headway being made with the second bid, and being adrift of Wigan's valuation, we withdrew our offer on June 9th.

SkySports.Com - 9th June Article - Blues Withdraw N'Zogbia Offer

Then at the Derby pre-season game... McLeish was interviewed live by Sky, and quizzed on N'Zogbia, mentioned how we couldnt agree a fee for him and that at the moment the deal looked dead.

Wigan's chairman Dave Whelan then came out on Sky during that week and said that Charles was happy at Wigan, and hadnt said anything about wanting to leave... but if he did, they would let him, as they dont stand in players way if they want to leave... but only if a "big club" matches their valuation of him.

Charles N'Zogbia handed in a transfer request last week, and met with Dave Whelan at some stage, who then admitted N'Zogbia can go, if their valuation is met...and now, according to various sources, like Colin Tattum, and Sky Sports... Charles N'Zogbia is available, for £10m.

Thats the whole Charles N'Zogbia saga in a nutshell.

Thanks for all that MF! **thumbup

I didn't know the Sky Sports £8m figure was a mis-qoute, I guess McLeish must have been playing cat and mouse with Martinez and Whelan to go in at £6m this summer for the orignial bid in December 2009 was £8m as evidenced here:

http://www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/sport/6526...ampaign=Feed%3A Score_Wigan %28Score%3A Wigan%29

I hope your right about the £10m availability (not that we will necessarily go for that), for the club valuation which Martinez spoke about today for for the assurance and awareness of their fans is Whelan's £15m which even Charles N'Zogbia knows is nothing more than a holding tactic!

We can go about it, either one of two ways.

1) We stump up the 10 million, fending off interest from the stated suitors, he signs, joins our team.

Or..

2)We play a very dangerous game, we wait until the last few days of the Transfer Window, and offer Wigan a 'Take it or leave it' offer of around 8-8.5 million, presuming that they will need to sell, in the knowledge that Charles Nzogbia has 0% interest in Wigan Athletic and doesnt want to play for them. This is a very dangerous game though, and will more than likely back fire, with another team coming in for him just when they are about to lower their valuation.

Personally, I think we make them an offer now. Whelan appears to be a very greedy guy IMO, and will relish the prospect of a bidding war, but at the end of the day, we are cutting off our noses to spite our face if we pull out, because if we dont buy him, then another team will.

I say we offer them about 8 million, and then another 2 million at the end of the season, or next season, or maybe even based on say 20/25 appearances for us

Now that AM and PP at Birmingham have baulked at N'Zogbia price-tag, isn't £10m a reasonable price to pay for Ryan Babel to see off Wolfsburg, which remenber is £4m down on the Ajax/Liverpool valuation and transfer fee of a couple of seasons ago, before the blundering Spanish Waiter got his hands on this flexible, Premier League proven and dynamic right footed Left Winger.....?
